Title: One says 87, one says 83??
Post by: iam_misshennessy on January 15, 2021, 08:23:49 PM
I'm going through all of my ponies and cataloging/making a list of them. I have them categorized based on which line they came from (i.e. Rainbow Ponies, Sweetheart Sisters, etc.). I just finished my Loving Family Ponies and two sets of the parents don't have matching dates. Not even close haha

I actually just checked one of the babies and he doesn't even match date wise 🤔

For example:
Daddy Sweet Celebrations is marked 1987
Mommy Sweet Celebrations is marked 1983
Baby boy Sweet Celebrations is marked 1986

Does this just mean they were re-released multiple times, during different years, and these are just not the ones that originally came together? So a mom, a dad, and a son each from separate families/purchases/boxes?

:blink:They were witness to a horrific mob Crime and had to go into the federal witness protection program. The Sweet Celebrations family (not their real name) were all given new birthdays hence the discrepancy.

The year they are marked with is the year the pose was copyrighted. Exceptions are some altered poses with updated years.

Dammit, stop reading my mind!

I came to say what Minty said. This is the date of the mold/pose, not the release of the specific pony figure.

it's the year the pose was released NOT the year the pony was released

This is one of those things that confuses most people when they're first putting the collection together and start looking at the hooves. We probably need more pose-guide driven ID sites, honestly. The year on hoof is a clue to pony identification but unless you know it means the pose and not the set...

I've been thinking about that a lot, tbh. I have a lot of people email me saying I have this pony, but can't find it under x year...and this is the reason why.

Ironically, the loving families were actually sold all in one box together. At least in North America. And sort of in Europe. We also had them on separate cards, with the additional sibling only ever sold on card.
