Pony Corral / Re: Did you use official MLP names for your toys as a kid?
« on: October 27, 2014, 08:06:11 PM »
I did my best with keeping original names. Many of my ponies were bought second-hand, so it wasn't until the internet came along that I could start using their real names (gods, did I just date myself?).

The one major problem I had was BBE Baby Gusty and Sparkle Baby Gusty. Couldn't have 2 different ponies with the same name! So BBE Gusty stayed Gusty and Sparkle Baby became Baby Gust (obviously, I was YEARS beyond my classmates in term of creativity).

I didn't start getting duplicates in my herd for several years after that, and then they were mostly stand-ins and stunt doubles, so they didn't need original names at all.

I'm a big fan of the Moochick's "Somewhere there's a little piece of rainbow". I can sing the whole thing, from memory. I am greatly displeased that they haven't restored it to the videos they keep releasing. Gimme my Moochick!

I wish I could find uncut VHS copies of both Midnight Castle and Catrina without the salt and pepper. I've got a setup that allows me to transfer the VHS onto DVD. It would be so nice to have digital copies of those specials.

I guess I'll have to be more diligent in my eBay searches.

Pony Corral / Re: What G1 ponies do you see as boys?
« on: October 15, 2014, 02:40:38 PM »
All of the ponies from the birthday set were boys in my herd, even the flutter and the babies.

Baby Gusty was a boy, and Sparkle Baby Gusty was a girl I just called Gust. They were always a couple in my head.

Moonstone was a boy... and I had Steamer and Baby Whirly Twirl, so they were boys as well.

I think I had a fake unicorn that was played as male. No idea where he went to.

Pony Corral / Re: How did you, or how do you play with your ponies?
« on: February 05, 2014, 06:36:51 PM »
I had warring houses (Dream Castle versus Lullabye Nursery) and star-crossed lovers fighting to unite them (think Romeo and Juliet, but way before I knew about that particular play). The houses got a little crowded as my collection grew. Apparently I didn't consider leaving any of the ponies out of the "story", even though I only ever really gave personalities to maybe 10 of them. Poor neglected background characters.

I also had a lot of fun playing out The Phantom of the Opera as I listened to the soundtrack on my cassette tape player. I always had the hardest time deciding who was going to be Phantom, since I only had the one boy pony and of course he had to be the one who rescued "Christine".

I think I had my Quints Cousins hang out with the ponies a few times. They might have been just the right size to ride the ponies.

Did he take a dragon-nap in some fabric, possibly those collectible retro sheets hiding in your closet, and lose all track of time?

The last time I had a pony go missing, she turned up in my bait / odds 'n ends box. To this day, how she managed to do that is a mystery. It's in a completely different room!

Pony Corral / Re: My Little Pony Cross stitch?

i would love to see your designs!! i know what you mean about having lots of projects on the go. i recently finished a wizard - he only took me 7 years to finish!!!

As soon as I find my upload cable, I'll get them up here. I'm quite proud of the ones I've finished, for all that they're small.

The pattern that took me the longest was Teresa Wentzler's Carousel, which I did for my best friend. Only took me 3 years. We'll all kindly ignore the fact that, during those three years, I learned new techinques and so half of the piece looks far more professional than the first half. XD It still looks awesome.

Ah, MLP Cross Stitch! As DancingPhoenix said, I've made several patterns by hand. I've tried putting pictures into programs for patterns, but I despised how the programs wanted me to change colors every 3 sitches and wouldn't add backstitching, so instead I make my own.

I've made small patterns, both G1 and G4, that fit perfectly into coasters. I've also got some larger ones in the works that I am nearly jumping out of my chair to get started. If only I didn't have so many other cross stitch patterns in the works...

Pony Corral / Re: New Build-a-Bear Plushies!
« on: February 22, 2013, 08:16:46 PM »
I have an "in" at Build A Bear and I've been told that they want to release more characters, but every store needs to sell out of the initial offerings before they'll develop more.

Basically, if the plushies sell, they'll make more characters.

Introductions / Greetings from the Rockies!
« on: January 16, 2012, 09:25:48 AM »
Well, with all the new stuff, what's one more introduction post?

Hi everyone,

I was a long-time lurker on the former Arena, but decided to try and be more active with the new site. I'll go through the suggested info, rambling as the mood takes me.

I'm old enough to know better and young enough not to care. I turn 29 in March, but I'm thinking of counting backwards once I hit 30. I live in Colorado, USA, though I'm originally from Canada. Dual citizenship is awesome.

I currently work full time as a bank teller and attend the Art Institute of Pittsburgh Online part time. I'm trying to change professions rather drastically, from banking to web design/development. Even with all the viruses and bugs, computers are way cleaner than money.

I'm single with no pets, though I'm contemplating getting a cat. I'll have to work around the allergies I keep telling my mom I don't have while I pop anti-histamines. I've recently started the P90X and it's going to do amazing things... when I'm not clutching my abdomen wondering how I managed to get so very out of shape.

I've been collecting ponies since I realized that money could purchase those brightly colored plastic darlings I saw on TV and toy store shelves. I've a rather large collection of G1's and a few G3's I use to mutilate via beginner customization. I've got Rapunzel and Mimic and a whole lot more, but I'm always on the lookout for additions to my growing herd that will one day, lottery willing, have its own dedicated, climate-controlled room in my house.
