Show me your de-tinseled ponies!
« on: April 25, 2012, 11:54:39 AM »
I wanna see ponies without all that wild, unmanageable tinsel in their hair! :)
I guess I'll get the ball rolling: Here's my detinseled Princess Serena

her tinsel was actually ok untill I put her in a plactic baggie with baking soda to get rid of her smoke smell. after I took her out of the bag, flakes of gold tinsel were flying everywhere, and that left the tinsel strands all blotchy, ugly, and kinda mustard colored... and of course not sparkley anymore. It was kinda crazy on top of that so I just detinseled her. That made it easier to de-frizz her tail, and now after all that I think she looks AMAZING! :)

So lets see some detinseled ponies here! :)

I de-tinsel all of my ponies...to me it just makes their hair look fuzzy, even if it's actually perfect.

Gah, they look so much better de-tinseled. I'm tempted to de-tinsel all my ponies... They just don't seem to survive a good shampoo/conditioner rinse intact.

They really do. I can understand why people like the tinsel, but to me it seems silly to keep it if the hair looks a mess because of it. The nylon hair is already pretty and shiny without it  ^.^

The first pony is Silver Song. I got both her and Heather Winds MIB and de-tinseled them right away. It was a bit crinkly right out of the box and wouldn't style right so I just got rid of it. Silver Song's hair is such a beautiful color by itself without the tinsel  ^.^

Poor Serena! She does still look great though. And at least you learned a valuable lesson from it. I've never heard of baking soda harming ponies in any way! Definitely good to know about the tinsel...

It does if you are careful. I've washed plenty of tinsel-haired ponies and had them turn out okay (maybe not better, but not worse) afterwards. You just have to be gentle with it. =)

I'm a fan of all things sparkly but I did detinsel a couple G3s back in the day who I never manage to get photos of...I'll try to take some and post them before this thread disappears. =P

Thanks for this thread! I like the look without the tinsel. I'm screwing up the nerve to de-tinsel some ponies. Any advice would be good too, please!

I may be out on a limb loving pony tinsel! But these are really cute guys!

The Princess Celestia without tinsel...personally I think much better and that Serena is lovely as well.

Luna looks better without it too. I realize now that you can't really see much of her hair in that picture. The fashion styles have sooo much hair, and there was so much tinsel...it took me hours to get it out

That's just the fashion styles, since they have four rows of hair plugs. Normal ponies you can do in 30min to an hour once you get the hang of it. And sometimes you'll get lucky and a lot of the tinsel isn't rooted into the glue so it pulls right out  :)
