Title: What sort of collabs lie in the future for MLP & Japan? Predictions come true!
Post by: Mana Minori on February 01, 2018, 09:05:30 PM: I'm sure some of you recall that MLP collabed with Disney in the making of the g3 Disney Princess ponies. Collabs between companies seem few and far between, sadly. As a fan of Japanese culture, groups, musicians, and such, I have always desired to see MLP collab with brands such as Moi-même-Moitié, a gothic lolita brand by Mana (who is also in the band Moi Dix Mois), Shironuri artist and trendsetter, popularized by Minori, another Japanese native, perhaps some visual Kei bands (like the Gazette or Versailles), and more collabs with others in Japanese culture or companies, in general. The closest, it appears, that we've gotten are references to the sweet lolita style (seen in the IDW comics, on two ponies named Marcie Pan and Fawn Doo, and the gothic-semi-lolita-esque pony, Inky Rose, in Fim's episode "Where the Apple Lies". Rarity would be a good pony to use when collabing with the artists of the shironuri fashion style and artists, Rainbow Dash for Visual Kei bands/companies, and perhaps Inky Rose or Twilight for the Gothic Lolita collabs. Collabs with Sanrio, perhaps, could feature Pinkie Pie or Fluttershy. Heck- g3's Kimono, herself, seems to be made for collabs with Japan, too! (she's terribly underutilized). It breaks my heart that there's such a deep pool of opportunity, but Hasbro doesn't want to reach out and make it happen.

I know there's little hope, as MLP doesn't appear to be too popular in Japan right now, so there's less chance of collabs with fashion/ music artists and/or companies from there, with the pony brand, but still, there's much potential to be had with MLP and what comes from the land of the rising sun (even popular anime collabs). Is there anything that you guys want to see?

Incidentally at one point they did a Hello Kitty / Transformers crossover and made a transforming Hello Kitty. What really gets me is that she was a Decepticon. :P

Hope the stuff won't be too hard to get outside of Japan. And if they don't try to put Luna with the Twin Stars in some way, I am going to cry.

Actually I was talking about just Sanrio collectibles. Affordable ones that aren't 100 different versions of Hello Kitty.

Kiki and Lala (not Rara) are the Little Twin Stars characters.
OK. In Japanese it's written rara ララ...there isn't a character for la in Japanese script, so ra is used for both.

If they do it's either not on general sale or only available in Tokyo. Three months in Kyoto and the best I could find in terms of MLP anything were plushes in Osaka in an import shop, as well as Pez dispensers. Nothing remotely pony anywhere else in either city. Nothing I saw in Hiroshima either, but I wasn't there long enough to say I swept the whole place on a mad pony hunt xD. I mostly did my research and visited the pokemon centre, but that's another matter...

I think most of it in this case is probably in Harajuku then, in my state when we go to our periodical pony meets we have a couple people who travel to Japan sometimes and they bring back goodies. A lot of it has been pony related and they said it was from Harajuku. I think it makes sense, considering the street fashion aesthetic they have over there, ponies go well with that imo.
I do have a Tshirt I happened to win in a raffle from there with some G1 ponies on it, another person won a bag with sleeping G4 characters.

ALSO speaking of the Pokémon Center, wow Taffeta, I'm jealous lol.

I assume a chunk of it is pop up and limited (Like the first link I posted to, but all of that is FiM, I think).

But I think there were shirts + socks and stuff at a dept store too, a few years back...

Lala and KiKi are the names of the Little Twin Stars!

And I am tragically so broke to ever afford this stuff so I just keep an eye out at thrift stores for other awesome Sanrio stuff that pops up!

I didn't find Harajuku when I was in Tokyo (yes, my navigation is that bad. I didn't find a lot of things xD) for a brief few days but it does sound like the sort of place those things would appear. Mind you, I did probably spend too much money on sumikkogurashi and jinbei and other cute stuff in the Kansai so maybe it was a good thing I didn't find anything pony as well >< I did also see Monster High dolls in the second hand store but not anything equine.

Just a bunch of G4s stuck to a LWS background wouldn't really wow me. But it would be amazing if they designed the ponies to look like Kiki and Lala's unicorns.
