Orange G4 pegasus?
« on: January 07, 2013, 04:44:54 PM »
Just wondering if there are any orange G4 pegasus toys out there that aren't Scootaloo.  I'd like to try making my OC (the pony in my icon) but I don't know if there are any out there. Sorry if this topic is in the wrong place!

Haven't seen an orange one yet. You'll probably have to repaint a different one. :/  good luck in your search!

No, not yet.  The only orange ponies so far have been Scootaloo, Honey Buzz and Applejack.
You could try your hand at dyeing a Fluttershy or Sunny Rays.

Wonder if Feathermay could be bleached to orange?

Strawberry Reef has a great colour chart for G4s http://www.strawberryreef.com/Index/G4/Color/index.html - maybe that will help you pick out one closest in colour for changing?

Feathermay is purple though.  Even still, taking colour away is far harder and more unpredictable than adding more.

Diamond Rose is also a likely candidate for dyeing because she's white.

Thanks guys. :D Those are some good suggestions and the chart . I've never made a custom before so I'm a little nervous but I'll try my hand at dying one!

Painting is easier than dying, but dying looks better in the end because it coats the pony evenly. :) Maybe get a couple baits and practice a few times with different ways!

I'm not a customizer, so someone correct me if I'm wrong - but isn't it tricky to dye G4s evenly because the different plastics used to make the head and body take dye differently?

I was thinking what if you just took an Applejack and sculped some wings onto her? I guess that's probably easier said than done, but I dunno...the good thing there too is that there are more Applejacks to go around than other non main 6 pegs, so you'd find a bait easily. -shrug-

You can dye a pink pony orange, I've done it with Pinkie Pie... BUT be warned... Dying a G4 is harder than some of the other Gens. because of the coating on the body of a G4.

Dye fades, bleeds, and rarely comes out a) even or b) the actual color you want. Go with the paint.

For your shade of orange I'd go with paint too, you could also ask some other member to airbrush it for you if you wanted (thinking about colorscrapeart painted baits here).
Red, orange and brown dyes leak A LOT and for a long time! Eye painting will be tough as the dye will leak through white paint and even symbol might be tricky.
Also, as some others said, G4 have a different plastic for head and body which will make color matching tricky.
