Covid has affected me so little, I honestly wasn't thinking about it when I started this thread. Well, plus it didn't stop tourists from coming to Florida. There are probably less than usual but you still see plenty of out-of-state plates when driving around.

I kind of read that and facepalmed, but I guess I see it.

Suzu is the Japanese word for bell. It just feels like a bad joke, but I don't know which way around. Highly possible that if that's the theme of the story, the joke is on the Japanese side.

Weathering with you is actually called Tenki no Ko, I think? Which is literally, 'the weather child' or 'the weather girl'.

And it's not like all of the Ghibli films have straight translated titles so you're probably right. Spirited Away is Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi in Japanese. But to translate that literally would be a mess. Sen to Chihiro relies on a play on kanji readings, and kamikakushi, the idea of gods stealing people away, mostly children, isn't something found in the west. So 'Spirited Away' is a decent compromise. I've always wondered how much it makes sense to people in English/without the cultural context, but it seems really popular, so I guess it must somehow?

I think the plot of WWY did go a bit funny at the end. The whole idea of the shrine and the girl being the offering for the weather to stabilise is kind of logical, there are stories of miko (shinto priestess) doing dances for rain, and the idea of a miko as a conduit for stability or whatever...and she's basically a miko. But yeah, it does go a bit wonky towards the end.

I like Kimi no Na Wa much more.

I actually am fine with the original set of SHS (the two oddballs aside) in terms of their colour blend, but don't understand the point of more or less repeating it, including the colourings, for the pretty ponies. A set that I don't care at all was missed off the US list. It just seems unnecessary. If it was genuinely a beginner pony fan targeted set, at least make it stand out...?

I love the glittering shs and the prom queens, also. I wish we'd had the prom queens here. Even though, culturally speaking, it wouldn't have made any sense at the time of the release.

It's the usual way the author has of building up the tension and racking up the stakes, let's put it that way...

I haven't been on a vacation in like forever. I've gone places for other reasons, like this summer, if COVID doesn't cancel it, I plan to go to the International Double Reed Society convention in Colorado.

But I haven't been somewhere just to visit it in a very long time. Perhaps even back to when I was a teenager. But perhaps the above counts as a vacation, IDK.

My parents go on vacations, but they're always to boring places like Texas, Arkansas, within Oklahoma, etc. Also, they're camping trips, and I don't camp. Nuh uh. Nope. Never. (especially not during the Spring and Summer when they camp, where it is always hot and insect infected. Ew) So I've never tagged along.

Snapdragon: That would have been a sad mistake! Thankfully you noticed it on time

Taffeta: I wouldnt mind finding so many MOC's in my attic! That must have been an amazing feeling! The other part of the story is very sad, I wish that person would be honest and send it back to you :(

goddessofpeep: I love your new system! So sad that so many things had to go wrong, I hope that's all in the past now!

This makes me think what if we could find nylon gaskets that are the same size as G1 tail washers? I would use those... After that conversation the other day about nylon zipties being OK with ponies because after all the hair is nylon.

The plumbing section in B&Q :)

Trader & Shipping Support / Re: Mercari - pros and cons?

What I find really annoying with Mercari is that you have to leave feedback within 3 days of receiving your item or feedback will be left for you. And this isn't helpful if you're on vacation. Another thing I have a problem with is feedback retaliation. I left a 3 star feedback for a seller who misrepresented their item. In retaliation they left me 1 star. And after that I had at least one person block me from being able to buy their auctions because of that. So now I rarely buy from Mercari.
I had a terrible Mercari seller, too, that disguised a pony that had a chewed off leg. I still left them 3 stars but pointed out in the feedback that the lot was not as described. The seller, in turn, left me one star and threw a fit over my honest feedback. And because of that, I had at least one pony seller block me on Mercari, even though this person was the only person who left me anything less than 5 stars and they left it as retaliation. So, I don't shop Mercari much anymore.
