Got a quick look of the G5 toys.
Don't really like them. Their heads are so tall, and their muzzles so short. They look kinda scary from the front.
The yellow one looks like it might be a boy. The head shape seems a little more angular.
They seem to have a hard time translating the movie model faces onto the merch and toys. Front facing, the eyes seem really wierd both here and the previously seen bedding.

He is.

I hope we'll get a lot of the brushables. I like what I'm seeing so far, thanks for the side view of the face. :D molded hair is not for me, but I can't wait to see more pics of these!
I like the body and I LOVE the accessories for Sunny but those heads... at least put their eyes a bit further apart? ^^;

These do seem aimed at kids though. That's something at least.I'm glad it's looking that way. Hopefully this will be the death of the disturbingly graphic side of the MLP fandom, I saw a tweet a few minutes ago that had screenshots of the infamous disgusting MLP fan forum where we got leaked info of the G5 pony names (if you know you know) and they seem to be HATING G5, so great sign! I also hope that the movie and subsequent series are appealing to children and families of all ages without pandering to older audiences like late FiM did. I hope they realize that this franchise is for children first, everyone else is just along for the ride.
Anyone think the pom is in the pouch of the boy?
I'm on my phone so I can't see a close up of the photo, but are they ALL articulated? If so, that will be incredibly disappointing 😓 I actually think these designs are super cute and I'm totally excited to add some to my collection, but not if they only have those hideous moveable legs! No, just the ones with molded hair. I think they're going to run brushables and Guardians of Harmony type toys side by side. The brushables have no articulation.

G3.5 head on G2 body. Hard pass for me.yep thats what i was thinking -_- its a big nope from me
Is it typical for toy designs to change a little bit once they hit the shelves from these initial unveilings?
Their heads look like a Dyson hand dryer.

G3.5 head on G2 body. Hard pass for me.YES!
Hopefully there will be lots of characters and not just 3 or 4 ad naseum. Kids don't like buying a bajillion of the same thing.:O You sayin' kids don't need a bajillion of MLP toys?
Also, just for the customizers sake, I hope the rooted head is a squishy doll head and not a hard plastic dome like G4.5. With a new face-up they could have potential to look G2ish.

Yes please! I like how these new main ponies for G5 look right now, and I don't want to get as tired of them as I got with the Mane 6. I think they should maybe only give them two (main brushable) toys a year, filling out the rest of the brushables each toy reset with different, new ponies each time. Have it be more similar to pre-Core 7 G3 where there are ponies that get released more (Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Sunny Daze, Sparkleworks, etc), but most releases are new characters.
You guys bring up interesting points about customizing. You can't always tell from a picture, but they look like hard plastic.
i agree with the observation that the eyes are way too close together, but i almost feel like i would take that over the bobbleheads. i feel like that worked better stylistically with the pony life toys than it does here. i did a crappy little edit where i thickened the neck on the brushable:

idk, it's the main thing bothering me. the molded hair figures have thicker necks which better fit their heads, but izzy's is so long!
looks like a head they put on a finger.

I saw this post on Tumblr pointing out that the face shape on the toy is definitely snubbier than the animation, hence why it looks so off. You'd think with the characters being 3D, it would be easier to make a more accurate and better looking toy.

My initial thought on these is literally nothing. I don’t dislike them, but I don’t really like them either. It’s probably just because it’s all new, but these still feel like well done fakies more than genuine mlp so far.

I like the overall mold, but I HATE the flat face with 0 sculpting and the FRONT FACING EYES WITH EYEBROWS AAAAAAAAAAA
Also the Disneyesque look its not a plus for me, idk. Maybe theyll get me in the future
Got a quick look of the G5 toys.
well..... im going to need to buy 1 at least just so i have a pony from every generation / time they changed design... im trying to make a pony through the years display
Well, my negativity is unbridled here: I hate them. Good color schemes, but the heads completely undermine them and turn them into garbage. The animation faces were already overly snubby just like G4, which is an unacceptable design choice in its own right, and this is even worse! Hasbro needs to change the designs of both the media and the toys. I would rather have a year of no new MLP product than see these on shelves as they are.:thumb:
It's what if G2 and G4 had a baby...
It's what if G2 and G4 had a baby...
Ah! Finally a leak that seems legit!
Hm, I definitely don't hate it, but it's not my taste either. I'm ok with that! Right off the bat I feel about the same about it as I did about G2 (which I in no way begrudge) - cute enough but not really something for me.
I just genuinely hope kids will like it (let little girls have fun toys, dang it), they'll offer a wide variety of individual ponies, they'll have some fun and interesting gimmicks, and that this will pretty much be the end of extremely low quality 'adult marketed' collectors items (I'm sure we'll see G1 based stuff for a while, and while a t-shirt here and there is fine, I'm tired of the poor quality and high price point 'collectors items' so many 80s/90s lines are getting right now, including non-MLP properties).
I feel like if there is a brushy version of the unicorn and she has nice or curly hair...I will get her. I am not sure about Sunny, her face will take getting used to. More importantly, I like orange and I like pink... but I'm kind of over orange and pink as a colour scheme in ponies? Especially those same shades of orange and pink.
It's been so used in G3 (Sparkleworks) and G4 (Scootaloo), both of which had multiple releases. I think there's also another G3 pony with that colour scheme - one who came with the scooter?
the scooter pony's name actually was scootaloo. hasbro recycled her for g3.5 which then carried over to g4. they also used the orange-and-pink colour scheme (with an added purple mane streak) for g3 pony sew-and-so, who had a lot of re-releases as well. i'm totally with you on the combination being worn out at this point.
like others have said, these look like a mix of g2 and g4. initially i hated it, but the more i look at them the more i like them. i'm excited for g5!
Wasn't there Flitter Flutter or whoever? Now that's SCOOTATWO.
It's not a leak! A couple nights ago Entertainment Tonight published an article about the G5 movie (here (https://www.etonline.com/my-little-pony-latest-movie-heads-to-netflix-greenlights-new-series-exclusive-161157)). Then yesterday morning Hasbro held an investor stream where they revealed more, including some of the toys shown in the OP. They've been posting about G5 on their social medias yesterday and today! So this is all official news from Hasbro themselves.
I love the body style but hate everything about the heads/faces. These examples look frightening head-on and bizarre from the side.
The faces are even more awful then the G4. I don't see why they need to make them more and more human like.
The faces are even more awful then the G4. I don't see why they need to make them more and more human like.
Eventually they will morph into centaurs...
This new style got me wondering:
Will Hasbro now start to acknowledge the existence of G2 as a toyline (not just a PC game), since G5 bares a striking resemblance? G2 may have been a bit of a failure in the US, hence the elimination from their historical lineup, but it was successful in the rest of the world.
I mean, if G5 is all about inclusion... :silly:
The pink Pegasus shown on the bedset looks like she has swablu wings hastily drawn on. Its interesting that she hasn't yet made an appearance in the screen shots or toys. Maybe she's just a minor or secondary char?

They also don't look like swablu's wings. Swablu has wings that look like clouds. The only thing odd about these wings are they aren't the same color as her body... and maybe she has a back story about that?

I dunno... she's got to be somewhat important to make it onto merchandise like that, right? You can see her on some more merch in this screenshot from the livestream. On a heart shaped necklace (?) and she seems to be on the shoes as well.

I hope we get to see more toys soon, especially one of her! Maybe she's not as important to the film which is why Hasbro haven't shown how she looks in the movie or have officially revealed her name, but will be a main character in the series and that's why she's on at least three pieces of merch we've seen so far?

The differently colored wing thing is definitely weird. I was initially thinking it was going to be the case with all pegasi in G5, but that doesn't seem to be the case with the two guard pegasi from that movie screenshot we have, so maybe it is just her? It's definitely very strange. I really hope we see a toy of her soon, I'm curious how they're going to do the differently colored wing thing with the toys. Whether they'll be directly connected to her body and they'll just be painted, or if they'll do something similar to what they did with some later G4s and the G4.5 pegasi where the wings are separate and can be moved around a ball joint (just like the G4.5 heads), and then they just use a different plastic color for the wings rather than paint them.

G3 pegasus sometimes have different colored wings.
It could be that the underside of her wings are white and the top is pink?
More g3s than Star Catcher have different coloured wings though, but it's an airbrushed gradient. Then there are Hear Bright and Star Flight that have the big flappy wings.
G1 Dream Beauties have wings in a different colour (and gradient) than their bodies, and the g2 "pegasi" have clip-on wings. There are lots of ponies with different wings than body colour, so I really don't see the issue with that. ^^'
Maybe it's because she's young and has baby down or something?

I gotta say I am most interested to see brushables of the pegasi and unicorns because Hasbro could technically go the cheap route and have the wings and horns be integrated in the saddles and tiaras :|
Not trying to be overly negative, just a thought I had based on the different colors of the horn and wings on the characters we've already seen.
And before someone shows me a pic of the action figure Izzy again - I am strictly talking about the brushables here. Mostly because they give me G2 flashbacks and G2 had clip-on wings that were different colors than the main body. It also seems like toys won't have painted hooves or gradients on their legs (judging by the few pics we've gotten). I'm just thinking Hasbro will cheap out big time on these since most of the budget seems to flow into the animation.
I wouldn't get my hopes up, but I was thinking maybe we would get a head revision down the road. I think the heads look nothing like the movie characters because the toys were probably based off of 2D concept art. They probably had not done the 3D models yet.
Also, before the 2017 G4 redesign, the earth pony heads got a weird update around 2014, maybe even 2013? They actually ended up looking worse than they did before, but it definitely happened. I can't remember exactly what they changed. I think something about the position of the muzzle and I think the eyes might've been slightly altered too. I'm not dragging my Pinkie Pies out to check. XD

The only g3 I know to have different wings is starcatcher. (I do not care for G3 so don't know a lot of about it). I only see animation screenshots with white wings.. and toys with or blue wings. If the giant blue wings came first, then I just see that as a gimmick, and nothing about character design. I am not sure g3 relevant, at least it's not to me.
The thing to me is visually -- those very much stand out. So I find it a bit odd. If it's just a part of the design, because her body will have more white gradient, then maybe it doesn't look as odd. And even if they are just pure white just because, I think they still look fine. I don't think negatively about them. They just stand out to me.
I just hope they don't do ball-jointed, removable wings. My son got a set of g4 pirate ponies for Christmas that have those, and they fall off constantly. I got so tired of kids bringing me wings to reattach that I rounded them all up and put them away...they can be wingless from now on.
@LAW
Yes thats true. I forgot about that.
The wings were a gimmick because butterfly hairclips were on trend. I'm still wondering. But I guess we could just as well end up with a G4 Princess situation were somehow the wings on the toys were different colors and sometimes separate moulds.

As someone who is mainly collecting G2 all the G2 comments make me wanna cry lmao
I can kind of see the resemblance but G5 still looks far closer to G4 than I'm comfortable with; they still look stumpy, the squashed faces don't help, they don't look horse-y at all, THOSE ARE CAT EARS, ahem >>
The eyebrows are a huge no for me, and the art style is so Disney it's painful. :X If I wanted a Disney pony I would buy a Disney pony, there's certainly no shortage of them at this point.
The general feeling I get from this is very middle of the road--they wanted to change the style just enough to where HOPEFULLY the Bronies won't find them sexy but also close enough to G4 that hopefully the Bronies will still be appeased and follow along for totally SFW reasons so Hasbro can continue to get that sweet sweet Brony cash. -_-

I kind of wish they would go back to the Neck and Head being one piece again and there being a turning point at the base of the neck.

I sadly gotta tell you that a quick internet research shows that certain people are already fawning over the two girl ponies, especially Izzy. I'll say at least the nature of the toys will probably repel a lot of them. In G4's darkest timeline Bs went into the doll isle in groups and filmed themselves freaking out over the toys. But I somehow doubt this will happen this time. Bs have their own conventions now where they can exhibit this behaviour and soil their brushables and whatever else the crazed portion of them loved to do.
These are super good points Ragamuffin! I agree, as much as I love G2 and the style of it it didn't really look like authentic MLP and yeah the poses were all the same. There's only a few ponies you can tell apart and that's only because they have specific poses.I kind of wish they would go back to the Neck and Head being one piece again and there being a turning point at the base of the neck.
Me too
I'm always thinking about pony necks, but recently I've been thinking about them more, but in a Different Way.
G1 and G3 were more like sculptures in a way. They have a basic shape to them, but the head is separate from the body, only because of the hair and tail (I guess? Why DO the ponies have a separate head if they're just going to glue it shut? Is hairing that big of an issue when Barbie horses and Grand Champions have brushable "sculptures" as well?). With everything being one shape, you can have much more expressive and dynamic poses. A moveable neck isn't a priority.
G2 poses were very basic. They had moveable heads from the get-go, but the poses were samey. Some had a raised leg, some had their feet in a certain position, but nothing crazy. The heads were all the same, really. Compare that to the Posey pose, where the pony's chin is up, the Dibbles pose head looking down, the Sugarberry pose sort of leaning to one side. For G3, some heads had the ears pointing in different directions, some eyes were different (Diva pose vs Donkey pose, you know what I mean... not sure how to describe it lol). G2 is less of a "sculpture" and more like an "action figure", which I think limits the pose possibility. This includes the head.
G4 had one pose for years until the 2017 reboot, but then, it had the same issue as G2. Yes you get "new poses" but it all ends up being samey because of the head having to be a certain way. It's not a "sculpture" at that point, but an "action figure"/"doll". I have no idea why they went with what they did for 2017. It's ugly and the neck worked fine with the original G4s. But with Pony Life, it makes sense since they're on a ball joint. The movement of the head then is more important than anatomical accuracy (yet the G1 Peekaboo babies exist).
With an "action figure" type head, the head/necks tend to be in a fixed, forward-facing position, like with G2 and G4. The only reason a G5 head should be how it is is if it's on a ball joint like G4.5 If it's not well... it's just ugly. :P If the head is able to move in any direction, up and down and left and right, it might be more appealing to children-- better/more expressive during play and whatnot, and easier to groom hair.
To me they look like Creamsicle.
Well those look cuter than the toys we've seen so far, they have actual snouts lol
I did a quick edit of the new toy! The thing that bothers me the most is the skinny neck and the super short snout!
I hope they'll tweak them a bit!

This looks a lot better! I have little hope for this generation, I loved G4 but these ones take the flat-face thing a bit too far, and I also don't like how the mane is so round in the front, almost like a human hairline. I think the G4 FS ponies did the thicker mane perfectly, a few extra rows but still shaped (mostly) like what you'd expect from a horse mane.
The feathered hooves are nice though!
Happy you two liked it! :)

So like, when do you think we'll start seeing other species in toy form? I'm curious about the pegasus and alleged unipegs.I'd LOVE to have some new wingers or flutter ponies!! G4 did have insect-type ponies in the form of breezies, but those always felt like accessories rather than proper ponies to me (I'm not sure they even had their own names...)
I'm also curious what other species might make a comeback. I'd really like to see sea ponies, (not the misnamed g4 ones, those are mermaid ponies) come back. As well as flutters with stronger wings. Wingers too. And yes, new merponies.

I wish they were like that. Unfortunately, I find G5 ponies a bit creepy with this human-like face (I mean, what's with the eyebrows?). G4 was also meh but I think G5 is the worst to date.

TBH, building on what Wardah said, it would be lovely if all the animation related stuff was promoted in blind bag and allowed more creativity in the brushable line that didn't require it to fit in with the 'main cast' standards.
Though blind bags have only been around for G4, it does seem like they did a good job of reflecting the wide cast, which the brushable line never even attempted.
So I'm fine with blind bags so long as all the diversity of character isn't restricted to that format this time.
TBH, building on what Wardah said, it would be lovely if all the animation related stuff was promoted in blind bag and allowed more creativity in the brushable line that didn't require it to fit in with the 'main cast' standards.I think this would be a happy medium. Some of the more animation-inclined folk don't care much for the brushable hair for accuracy reasons, while people who care less about accuracy are more happy with a toy you can play around a bit with. It was nice when they did the Friendship is Magic collection for blind bags, too, that felt like it should have been there since the start.

It makes me sad that in the recent generations they start to look less and less like horses.... :T
Sunshine that is gorgeous!!!

I did a quick sketch using some of my fave design elements from previous generations. I really love the hooves and eyebrows of gen 5 but I would like it if they had a bit more of a "horsey" look. :D

So they are officially calling them the Mane 5. I hope that's not a harbinger of no other characters being introduced...or produced.
I don't like how they have individual, detailed teeth. There's a reason most cartoons have just bars for teeth.

I really like the character designs, especially Zipp, but I still hate how non-horselike they are and I can't help but feel it was a calculated effort to manufacture another Brony Phenomenon and you just can't manufacture something like that.

Yeah that's a thing that I sorta dislike, I am excited for this new gen but it definately feels like Hasbro will try to replicate FIM's success as much as possible.
Like..... why do they even have to call the new group of characters "Mane Five" ???

To me it almost seems like they want FIM level popularity but not the same demographic. It seems like this time they are aiming at the socially aware Steven Universe crowd. But while everyone says the animation reminds them of Disney it kinda reminds me of Miraculous Ladybug.

I wonder if Hasbro will have the balls to make one of the ponies LGBT? Probably not... but we'll see. :)
Nice to see Hasbro didn't learn their lesson the first 3 times.

If they wanted to go that route, it would have been 100% smarter to keep 2D animation and use G1 as a closer reference than G4 imo- not just saying that because I'd love to see something more similar to G1 in aesthetics, but the G1 style in general is more in line with shows like Steven Universe, SPOP and Adventure time than G4- especially because all of those shows heavily reference 80's and 90's aesthetics and have a similar color palette.
G5's art style really reminds me of Brony fanart styles, and I don't think it's accidental honestly. I really love G4, it reignited my passion for MLP when I was younger, but I really wanted to see something closer to G1 lol.
Nice to see Hasbro didn't learn their lesson the first 3 times.
What lesson? Despite it not being popular with the old school collecting community, the fact that G4 went on for so many years kinda proves that a core cast works, at least with the target audience, who is likely only getting less than 6 ponies anyways.

I meant more along the lines of story content than animation style. The reason SU was popular had a lot more to do with content than animation style and lots of fans actually felt the animation was the weakest part of SU.
Wow uh... Pipp's eye color changing from brown to green hurts me on a deeply personal level. And of course the only brown eyed character is the token boy. Who decided brown eyes = boy and blue eyes= girl anyway?! :enraged:No idea but they don't know enough girls... Source: have brown eyes

The fact that it kept killing their lines. The mane sux and yes the bore core are shelf sitters. Kids are sick of it too. Don't pretend otherwise Wardah.

Horses have big teeth, it wouldn't look so off putting, if the G5s didn't have such weird heads.
So lo-ong body... Squere backside. Strange eyebrows. And her eyes so close... May be... Something like that can be better?

I did a quick edit of the new toy! The thing that bothers me the most is the skinny neck and the super short snout!
I hope they'll tweak them a bit!

The trouble is that these ponies are more human than horse! XD Applying horse-logic won't work with these guys lolol
Pipp!

Wardah, where did you find that!
I wonder if there's even going to be regular sized brushables without articulation in this line.
I like the dark silky hair and deep green eyes on Pipp. If I had to guess at least her symbol, I'd say a castle or bed on a cloud?Description and image in the spoiler. Don't look if you don't want to know for sure!
I don’t like how mechanical Pipp’s toy looks. The wing and leg joints stand out too much for me. Too many separate pieces joined together rather than one seamless mold. If it weren’t for her reminding me of a robot pony instead of a pony, she’d be cute. The neck/head portion of Sunny bothers me as well. But I like how her legs are part of her mould versus separate.I'm pretty sure that particular one is mechanical.

Ok, I'm home now and I can give my proper thoughts.
I'm very excited for the Pipp figure! She's my favorite character thus far and I really love this picture of her. ...If that's really low res and you want to see it in better quality, here (https://g5mlp.fandom.com/wiki/Pipp_Petals/Gallery)'s Pipp's image gallery.
I really do not like how the manes are rooted more like a traditional human doll head :/ I'm assuming Pipp is some kind of gimmick toy, so we'll likely see a more static version of her eventually.
I still really don't love this gen so far, oh well.
The heads are too close to human heads it makes me uncomfortable to look at, the hair being rooted only to the crown of the head does not help either.
I hate to say it but as much as I didn't like its designs, at least G4 never dared to mess with their hair, it almost feels like they realized they cannot make their heads any less horse-like without actually making their faces concave, so they decided that the next best thing in their mission to take "Pony" out of "My Little Pony" would be to shrink their manes to the area of human scalp...
G4 is no better in that regard. They don't go down their necks and there's a big bald spot on their chihuahua heads from continuous receding hairlines.

They don't? Oh, I though I saw a G4 toy somewhere with a long mane combed to the side, but then again I don't know much about G4 so I may have seen something wrong. Either way, even if they were shorter, at least they still sort of looked like horse manes instead of forming a horizontal hairline like a human doll, so it's still a downgrade for G5 in my eyes.
They go back down their bulbous heads, but not their necks like a horse's. I see what you mean about the horizontal headline.
They go back down their bulbous heads, but not their necks like a horse's. I see what you mean about the horizontal headline.
So pretty much, they went from actual horse manes to manes the length of human scalp, to human-like hairlines? Let's just hope that by G6 they still have tails...
I see it both ways a little bit. Yes, toddlers and young kids like repetition, but it's the adults buying them the toys and no parent wants to spend money on the same thing repeatedly. (...) Once So I guess it just depends on who's doing the picking...the parents or the kids!
Older kids want more variety too, I think, at least I did. I remember when the SS ponies came out, my sister and I were annoyed that many of them were re-leases; we felt like we could cross Posey, Lickety Split and Gusty off our checklist because we already had those ones.
I think it's funny so many people prefer the Pipp toy to Sunny because they look the same to me but Pipp's hair style is hiding the head shape better.
Cute new plushes with brushable hair: https://playbyplaytoys.es/en/collection/my-little-pony-en/I actually only like Izzy out of these because she looks way more normal than the other 3

The lack of pupils on Sunny and Pipp make them look kind of creepy, but yeah, they look so much more equine than any other G5 thing we’ve seen so far. I kinda like them!
Also, it seems like poor Hitch is gonna be left out of a lot of merch....
And Hitch being left out is interesting and I guess not unexpected, the retail buyers probably don’t expect he will sell well.
And Hitch being left out is interesting and I guess not unexpected, the retail buyers probably don’t expect he will sell well.
Yeah, if they wanted him to have more merchandise, he could have been pink, blue...I love Salty's design, maybe something like that. His color scheme is fine and all, but a bit odd for a girls toyline.
i'm surprised nobody really complained about pipp's phone not being horsey or whatever lol.
Still no big reveal or news on the whole toyline? It's odd. They're supposed to come out in August. Not sure there's much they can do to hype them up right now beyond what they've already done.
The G5 toys are supposed to be released in the summer, right?
You'd expect them to hype it up a little earlier than this, but nope. Maybe they've been working on redesigns of the brushables following the investor reveal?
Hmm...I thought they were supposed to come out in autumn?

Fall toy reset typically happens in August, rather than fall itself.
i mean, i guess our traditional idea of a touchscreen isnt very hoof friendly, but i'd expect them to be more open to it? one of the early-early fandom memes was luna with a gameboy, loli'm surprised nobody really complained about pipp's phone not being horsey or whatever lol.
I think I remember seeing talk that a lot of bronies have a problem with it for... some reason....
Can’t believe this hasn’t been posted yet.

or maybe we're fine because its just a natural evolution of this :P
I hope these aren't the standard line of G5 toys, MLP just isn't MLP without brushable hair. The playsets themselves are pretty cute though. Izzy seems to be an eccentric crafty kind of pony, and I'm all for that. I wonder if the flying Pomeranian mentioned in the press release will be her pet?
Princess Petals? For some reason I thought that one had a different name...
These are very cute but um...not really liking the implication that brushables are being phased out.......

Yeah for sure. Initially it seemed like things would be fine but I very much dislike how we see a molded hair pony being shown in the photo for the playset. Really hate that.

Exactly! I have no problem with molded hair ponies, but they should not be the entire focus of the line. They are the appetizer, not the main course. A pony ain't a real pony unless it's got soft brushable hair that comes with a cute (preferably pink in my taste) comb. But that Pipp singing doll that was shown off and the fact that these new ponies look like playsets and not individual singles gives me hope. We should know more soon, G5 will be hitting shelves in August so we'll probably hear more by Mid July.
I don't like any of these at all. The head of the brushable Sunny looks like the head of a Lego guy (especially in the top picture of her where she's facing forward), and I can't unsee it now. I hope these aren't all they will be releasing.
the shoes are absolutely HILARIOUS lol, but please give us more brushables :(THIS
Ya know the great thing about G1 ponies, there wasn't a LOT of accessories when you bought one pony. You got a pony, a brush or comb, a sticker and a ribbon. They fit nicely in to your hand, especially if you were a little kid...but it was soft enough plastic that they were huggable and lovable. Then with the brushable hair, it made them more realistic.
I know from watching my younger relatives play...all that extra crap for small children and a little big older kids is going to get lost and on stepped on by mom and dad. I think the thing about the original MLP was that it was so minimalistic, sure, more accessories came out with playsets or some ponies might have had a few more things but honestly, those action figure looking ponies for the new line have a lot of 'junk' with them that little kids are just going to lose...and frankly at my age all that is just more tiny junk I don't want to deal with.
So it's a hard pass for me on the 'action' figure ponies from those images. I have to hope they'll look better in person, but they're just not for me and I doubt if I'm going to be buying my 4 year old cousin these ponies that come with SOoooooo much tiny junk. I would probably buy her a bigger one with brushable hair but she seems to like my G1 style ponies better anyway, she goes for them more than the other ponies I have in my collection when she visits me.

So glad they're moving away from brushable hair - I love brushables, but hair quality has been consistently plummeting in recent years, with no sign of turning around. Nothing bothers me more than frizzy hair, so if Hasbro can't do brushable hair right, I'd rather them not do it at all. Plus, molded hair covers G5's oddly shaped heads and necks better than brushable hair, and makes them look more like, yknow, actual ponies. Also yay, Hitch toy!
I too am disappointed by the lack of brushables... hopefully they're just showing us the molded hair ones first and the brushables will come later. The first G4 set had molded hair too, right?
And I'm confused as to what Miss Petals' name is, too. Pipp or Princess? Or both? Princess Pipp Petals? Hm. I guess I like "Princess Petals" better than "Pipp".

Yeah, the first G4 release was a set of molded hair ponies. Hopefully this is a case similar to that and we end up getting more brushables. We know of two so far for G5 and both are larger styling sized ponies. I'd like some regular sized brushables as well!
I think Princess is a title (with her actually being a princess), with Pipp Petals being her actual name. Princess Pipp Petals. I wonder if even though they're sisters, that Zipp isn't a princess as well? They've not been referring to her as one at all, just by her regular name.
My french friend says "Pipp" is a slang term for something, so maybe it's linked to that? That's the only thing I can think of unless marketing thought "Princess Petals" is gonna sell better.
I've never seen it spelt "Pipp" before, just "Pip". That always bugged me about her name, the extra "P" just seems so unnecessary :P
It didn't seem masculine to me though. Maybe because my aunt used to have a (female) dog called Pip so that's where my mind goes first, idk. That and Pippi Longstockings.

I'm thinking at least 4 inches. Which is close enough to normal pony size.

Coming to terms with the fact that Hasbro really is phasing out regular sized brushables for articulated ponies :/ Looks like I'll be skipping the G5 merch, which is a shame because I really do like the character designs
Well, I still don't like them sadly. The manes look nice but the tails on the in-box photos almost look like polypropylene :/

That's the stuff they used on the Avon ponies right? Out of curiosity, how can one tell the difference between nylon and polypropylene? I've never had any of the avons, so I'm curious.

It feels a little different. Some of the HQG1C ponies (but not all) have polypropylene. I'm not sure how you can tell the difference from a photo, though...I'd sure like to find out though so I can avoid it! I've heard it gets ratty pretty quickly/easily. I don't know for sure personally; the only pony I have ever owned that has it is an HQG1C and she's only been on display.
I had an Avon Jazzmataz...the pink stripe in her mane just ripped right off at the roots. I didn't realize that it was polypropylene, but there was definitely something different about that hair!

Then that makes them normal. Since my Fashion Style is the size of my normal ponies. At least her head is. Her back is waaay shorter then theirs.
I really do like Pipp's glossy hair, fuzzy wings, and Roaring 20s headband. If the hair is as nice as it looks, hooray!
I also think it's too early to say there's not gonna be brushables/fewer brushables. I'm not gonna be disappointed before we have a statement saying there won't be any ^^' there's been very few leaks, and we don't even have the movie trailer yet, right? so yeah... while I don't have massively high hopes there will be mostly brushables, I'm also not going to assume there won't be any/very few just yet :)
all in all I like this ^^ the accessories are great!
except for that purple one, there is just something not quite right with the faces. I think the purple one's more luxurious and fuller mane helps make her look right.I agree. Pipp's mane covers her neck/sides of her face, so it hides the awkward bobble head thing they have going on.
I want styling size Sunny so BAD!! I wish she was already in stores!
I can't wait to start collecting these. The only one I'm not interested in right now is the flappy-wing singing Pipp but I usually avoid those gimmicks. I kinda hope we get some brushables just on their own with a comb but I know surprise boxes are the way of the toy market these days...
I'm really hoping the hair on the rooted ponies is good! Hasbro stepped up their hair game a lot last year with the G4.5s, so I'm hoping it didn't dip back to late 2015-2019 quality hair.
Also really hoping we see an increase in the percentage of rooted hair ponies soon. The molded ones are alright but the rooted hair is definitely the main draw of MLP to me. Can't style molded hair...
I think Styling and Fashion style are the same thing? Aren't they? :lookround:
Fan of brushables might not be out of luck just yet; there's a placeholder on the Wal-mart site for a set that seems to be brushables of the Mane 5:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/MLP-MOVIE-3-IN-COLLECTION-PK/644721340
there are 3 sizes of brushables in g4 actually, at least from what I have seen, not sure if more. The styling size is the bigger one, fashion style are the somewhat g1 size. This video shows size comparison, so which of the 3 would be similar to brushable Sunny do you think?
8-10 inches would be enormous Bekuno. That's roughly the height of a traditional sized Breyer. I doubt they'll be that big, and if they are, they'll be very pricey.

In my defense I actually never developed the part of my brain that lets me measure without a ruler :silly:
What I meant was maybe a little bigger than a G4 fashion size but smaller than the G4zilla or the sitting style ponies.
There's a Walmart listing for brushable Sunny that mentions the size:
https://www.walmart.com/ip/MLP-RAINBOW-REVEAL-SUNNY/525701843
Figure scale: 6 inches. I believe that's the same as the ordinary fashion style G4s? :)
I do have to say that at least they got the tails positioned properly on the G5s. What the heck were they thinking placing them so low on the G4s?
There's pic of the Walmart brushable set now! There weren't any yesterday when the listing went up.

There's pic of the Walmart brushable set now! There weren't any yesterday when the listing went up.

Zipp looks better with hair, instead of a paintbrush head. And hey Hasbro, little girls won't be horrified if boy horses have long hair ok? Just ask the model horse industry. Cripes those tails are thin! What happened to the nice thick hair from before? Can we stick with that you cheapskates?
Kinda annoyed the hooves aren't colored, I think I might paint mine
The molded mane on Hitch bothers me so I made an edit:

I got excited for about 2.5 seconds until I saw that these all have the same vacant expression that doesn't capture their personality, and in some cases look nothing like themselves, especially Zipp (although I do agree she looks better with hair!). Thumbs down to no hair on Hitch. Those unicorn headbands are dumb.
One positive that I am seeing here, however, is that they look like they are rooted in a normal style; a line down the back of their heads/necks like an actual horse rather than a circular top-knot clump on the top of their heads.

LOVE the absence of plastic packaging!
A simple styling of the hair can do a lot. SZ Izzy looks great with her curls draping around the body.

It's a broken record by now, but still; same standard standing pose. Over and over again. Just why? At least one variation of it, was that really too much?
Anyway, I'm glad some people are really into them. And the little teases we got make the movie look promising!
EDIT: I just noticed Hitch's smaller head. It really fits in well with the slender body.

Why is giant Sunny a winged unicorn?
 Not sarcasm. Why is giant Sunny a winged unicorn?
Sunny promoted to Alicorn princess because she brought back magic and united the races, right off the bat :)

Those brushables look alright - they're not my style, but they're nicer than the other toys, and I do like the feathering - but WHY does the dude have molded hair?!?! What the heck, Hasbro?? It's bad enough most boy dolls don't get proper hair, don't start pulling that crap with ponies now! :( I know all the G4 boys had mohawks/troll hair/etc but at least they still HAD proper hair of *some* kind. How disappointing.
...Oh dang I just noticed Trixie's there... aaaa... I've joked before "I always say I'm not interested in a new line, and then they go and put Trixie in it just to lure me in!" and then this happens XD oh man. Are those the G4.5 blind bag molds being reused again? They look familiar, but there's been so many new toys teased/revealed lately, it's hard to keep track of them all...!
These all look just so incredibly sad  Man... the molded hair action figures really do look better than the brushable set. Hitch and Zipp seem to have about the same hair length, why not give them the same type of hair?
They really couldn't even be bothered to come up with new molds for the mini figures?! I'm honestly baffled by the lack of effort here.

I agree with the pig thing. For some reason the Hitch toy makes me think of Link Hogthrob from Pigs in Space. I'm not sure if it's the ears, the hair or the smile that makes me compare the two...
On second look it might be the eyebrows and jawline on him.
You know, the more I look at not-brushable-brushable Hitch the more bothered I am by his head mold, like... it kinda looks like he doesn't have teeth? His jaw is just larger with the closed mouth, which honestly reminds me of Mr. Cake from FiM

She still looks like she has a roundish face, and a stubby muzzle to me.what do you expect...? just because it's nice & g5 doesn't mean it's returning to an old gen style.

Ughhhh
I want to like these so bad, but when I look at that, I just can't.
They're smaller then I'd hoped.
I don't mind the small size myself. (Less space they have to take up.)
However the toy/plastic does come off as cheap to me...
I suppose they could be used as baby ponies for G1/G3...
I suppose they could be used as baby ponies for G1/G3...
Lol, or their toys :)
All of a sudden I'm thinking of possible G5 babies... Imagine Hasbro simply using blind bag molds for those
I can't believe after all our theorizing about how CGI animated ponies were going to make it possible for interesting additional markings like socks and blazes, and then we finally see the characters and indeed they do have some nice horsey markings! ....after all that, none of it appears on the actual TOYS. Wow.That's such a good point! But the direction they took with G4 definitely made it seem like MLP is just done being a toy-first franchise. So if your character designs are too expensive to accurately represent as toys? Don't change them, or even bother trying. I bet that's Hasbro's mindset. >_<
I shouldn't be surprised by Hasbroken by now.
Did any of the other generations come so close together? I mean the time between each pair of generations. It feels like g4-g4.5-g5 are right up against each other. That might be one reason they didn't dramatically change the pony designs and sizes?

She rang up as $14.97, obviously put in the wrong spot though. She is so CUTE. Her hair is very soft and good quality, and she's a good size for a styling pony too. I'm going to send off some photos to the news sites, but if anyone wants me to post additional pictures and info here let me know what you want to see!
Ugh you're so lucky! Bekuno, can I please post this on my G5MLP Instagram?
I'd love to see pictures of her rooting!

Of course! Please share any photos you like. I also sent in pics and info to MLPMerch and EQD. I found her at a Walmart here in Texas. I'm in the Houston area but closer to the gulf.
Here's some photo spam!!
Rooting, her rooting is very interesting. Her roots are done horizontal, the holes are very small and uneven, and I counted I think 11 lines?
Size comparison! She's bigger than a G4 styling size but smaller than a G4zilla
Accessories. This threw me off a lot. Her comb, the flower braid, and two large gems are outside the packaging and the rest are in that weird box next to her. Wehn I popped the box off, everything else was wrapped up very tight and small into tissue paper wrapped with tape. The "flowers" are fabric, and you use the small gems to secure them in place.
Oh, how's the hair quality?

This is literally human hair on a horse :( (well, human hair of someone suffering from radiation poisoning) And I hate to say it, but looking at the comparison photo made me realize that G4 toys actually looked much better, because while the head may have looked weird, at least the body was overall well-proportioned, whereas the G5 looks like a child's first attempt at drawing a quadruped animal.
No, I see what SpacePinto means, I think it's the body that looks so weird on G5s. Looks more like a dachshund body, doesn't quite fit with the head if that makes sense.
G4s are stylized too but in a way that all fits together better? This one's head and body look fine seperately but don't *quite* go together? Not sure how to put it.
(Admittedly, it could just be that I'm used to G4s by now)
Anyway, wow, congrats Bekuno!! Can't believe G5s are in shops already! I thought it'd be closer to the end of the month at *least* before any popped up. Her hair does look lovely, though wow that rooting is odd. I do love the colours they picked for her, very nice.

A few more notes about the Izzy I picked up today, but she has a very firm plastic body and softer plastic head for the sake of rooting. Her symbol is only on one side.

Uhh what? A giant ping pong ball on a skinny body is well proportioned? These aren't well proportioned either mind you, but to say G4 is...is baffling.

Anyone else getting major G1 SS Buttons + SS Bangles mashup vibes from Izzy?
I can't help but wonder if those two were inspiration for her...
Omg sitting Sunny is SO CUTE!
And Bekuno - thanks so much for sharing the pics of Izzy! Especially the size comparison. I'm SO excited to get her in the future :D I actually don't mind the hair. She's gonna be on display, and have her hair styled anyway,in my collection. (I am also guilty of doing similar plugs for fringes on some of my older custom ponies, too. weren't they quite popular for a while? like kkind of in a bouffant fringe style) Hearing it feels soft and nice quality makes me happy ^^ Will you try styling it, or are you keeping it as it is out of box?

I mightttt give her some bigger curls at some point but honestly? She looks GREAT straight out of the box. I missed a photo of it, but actually on the left side of her head it's kinda of twisted and banded off to the side, plus her hair goes around her horn really nice in the front and it just looks so good! when I was showing her off to my boyfriend all excited I kept playing with her hair (its really silky and soft) and he was like "stoppp you're gonna straighten out her curls"
OMG! Plushie's are showing upI don't care much for that style but I'm waiitng on those ones with the brushable manes to release cause they looked gorgeous :inlove:

Off topic, I love your custom. Her symbol is wonderfully done.
Actually, having played the song clip, it's just terrifying generally. xD.
It's the Izzy plush that sings, on the previous page of images.

It is rather terrifying. Plush toys that move and sing creep me out for some reason. It would have been cute on its own without the spastic gimmicks, not sure why they thought they would sell more by making it sing that shrill song and do those jerky head movements.
Why does our possibly only boy pony so far HAS MOLDED hair. I want to brush all of them!
I wonder if it'd be possible to root him somehow. I'm picturing he has a big cavity in his head where the hair attaches, but who knows...
I'm really bothered by the wings on the brushable Pegasus pose- I'm assuming they went with the folded wings to avoid making a new sculpt for each pegasus sister, but you can barely tell they have wings at all because they're folded down against the body.
And it's not even just my annoyance as an adult collector- how are kids going to make their ponies 'fly' if their wings aren't extended?
Pegasi are fun because they have big, cool wings; without them, what's the point in making a pegasus at all?

If we're being honest for a moment, that is not strictly a G5 thing. G1 pegasus wings aren't open either, and we managed through the power of imagination. But yes, I do wish they'd put the big, colorful open wings on the main toys as well. The wing design is the best and nicest in the whole brand.

It's true that G1 wings aren't open in the same way as a G4 pony, but G1 and G3 wings aren't sculpted to look folded down in the same way, and the wings on (most) of the G1/G3 Pegasus poses do lift up off of the body in some way or another, while these ones are sculpted to look folded down/inactive and entirely flat against the body.

What's sad is that Hitch won't sell as well as the girl ponies because he isn't brushable, and then Hasbro will assume that Hitch doesn't sell because he's a boy pony/isn't some combination of pink/purple, etc., and then just not make many further releases of him at all.

The G5s are really growing on me lately. I ordered the Walmart set. My only remaining hangup, and it's a big one, is Hitch's non-brushable hair. What a dumb decision. No one's going to die if they see a male character with brushable hair, Hasbro. Especially if that character is a HORSE!? Pipp looks fine with long hair, Hitch would, too!
Am I thinking too hard, or is this lowkey sexist ? In the 80s, there used to be the Big Brothers and they had brushable hair. Everyone loves them. G2 had boy ponies as well, they just looked the same as the females because they made no sexual dimorphism in G2. Now in G5, there's this clear distinction and that makes me sad. Have we regressed ?
I'm probably making no sense... I'm tired... Sorry. :(
I completely agree Rose, this is just ridiculous and so backwards! Even the G4 boys had proper hair, sure it was different to the girls, but they still weren't stuck with stupid molded manes. -_- I've NEVER understood why boy dolls with proper brushable hair are so rare, but extending that to PONIES?!? Are you kidding me, Hasbro???

Yeah, I wasn't a big fan of the troll hair or mohawks either, but I'd take them any day over molded hair :(
Shutter Snap is a CUTE name! Best G5 name so far IMO. Not a huge fan of this set - I just don't like ponies with articulated legs, their symbols always end up looking strange and badly placed - but I do love the character variety! Their faces are quite nice too. I'm not sure who's who but I love the hair on the one next to Izzy (maybe that's Shutter? her symbol looks like an aperture)
I'm REALLY glad to see new ponies this gen, but I'm still pretty concerned that the classic brushable pony doesn't appear to be the standard and they're still going with the tiny molded hair action figures for the main line. Brushable hair makes the recoloring definitely less obvious.

Anyone post these yet? (https://www.mlpmerch.com/2021/07/big-movie-friends-brushables-found-on.html) The pic of Izzy with strands of hair hanging off both sides of her head looks so funny. Glad these have the more traditional rooting patterns rather than the human-esque styling ponies though. Of course, the ponies in the animation have more human-looking hair themselves so the toys won't look as "show accurate".Yeahh I'd rather have the human-style rooting than male pattern baldness Izzy  And what's with the molding on the inside of their legs? I get that these are budget versions, but you could say that about most of G5 so far.
I hate the new names too, Leave a Whisper. I thought the new naming style (Sunny, Izzy, Pipp etc) was cute, but now they're steering right back into G3/G4 ad-lib territory. When do we get our first Sweetie-something Something-Sparkle?

Yuck, these are really fugly! I appreciate the more normal rooting as opposed to the human scalp-style, but that's where their appeal ends. The too-close-together eyes, the Eugene Levy eyebrows (which is probably an insult to Gene Levy since I like him!), and that weird inside-the-leg molding! Is that soft plastic that G1s were made of just not a thing anymore? Kids like to hold and carry their toys around...any hard plastic monstrosity, especially a large one, is never going to be any kid's go-to favorite. I'm predicting most of these will end up in the bottom of the toybox.

Oh I dunno. My daughter loved carrying around her big Optimus Prime. He is made of very hard plastic. I know this because she dropped him horns down on my foot once. >_<
Dear Hasbro, please stop throwing darts at names, and going with whatever it landed on. Dazzle Feather, Ruddy Sparks and Zoomwing are dumb.
If they did that then what games would play at the company cocktail party?

Anyone post these yet? (https://www.mlpmerch.com/2021/07/big-movie-friends-brushables-found-on.html) The pic of Izzy with strands of hair hanging off both sides of her head looks so funny. Glad these have the more traditional rooting patterns rather than the human-esque styling ponies though. Of course, the ponies in the animation have more human-looking hair themselves so the toys won't look as "show accurate".
Ouch!! That must have hurt. I guess now that I think on it, my girls carried around these big hard plastic Toy Story toys for a while, to the point where I had to ban Rex from being taken in the car...I was afraid his pointy tail was going to go through somebody's eyeball if I had to stop suddenly! Someone swung him at my face once and that was the last straw. Maybe I'm just projecting; I wouldn't have liked 'em as a kid so I assume every kid wouldn't. Stuff always had to have some kind of tactile appeal to me. I liked it best if I could squish it!
Dear Hasbro, please stop throwing darts at names, and going with whatever it landed on. Dazzle Feather, Ruddy Sparks and Zoomwing are dumb.
If they did that then what games would play at the company cocktail party?
I think some of the ponies in the Amazon set are cute but I don't like the symbols being placed at the tops of their legs. It doesn't look right to me.
Ponyfan
New unseen set of molded hair G5s. There's some non-Mane 5 finally but I wish they were brushables. Hitch isn't included in the set.

Maybe I'm slightly loopy but I think it's the eyelashes that look like eye wrinkles to me 0_0 lmao

Drinking games, from the sounds of some of these name/symbol pairings!
It's interesting that I've seen at least a couple boxes where the toy labels the character as "Princess Petals" rather than Pipp Petals or Princess Pipp. Curious! Maybe Princess Petals is her stage name? (I know she's an actual princess, too, but she's also a pop star so maybe she goes by Princess Petals?) Or maybe Princess Petals is just better to copyright than Pipp...?My theory is it has to do with her name sounding like unsavory slang in French...if you say it out loud. The packaging has been for many other areas on top of English speaking ones, and her full name in french is Ruby Petals.
I found this Izzy today at Walmart.

Sorry. :(
That's how I feel too. You'd think Hasbro would try and be "woke" and fit in with the modern day. They had the sense to make a male character a main character in a female centric franchise but continue to give them molded hair? Not sure if Hasbro is cheap or just stupid.

i hate "mane 5" as a marketing concept, i hates it.... >.<

It's ironic isn't it? The line has just begun and already we feel like there's more variety.
Although G4 started with more variety and balance in the lines, so...I don't know.
G4 did have more colour variety though. And frankly the colour schemes of these resemble key ponies from G4 without that range...
I guess we'll see how it goes forwards, but I'm thinking that probably we're not going to see massive variety in this line overall, not if the words 'mane 5' have already entered the conversation.

Unfortunately this is very real.
*chalkboard noises as I slide the comb along Hitch's hair and smoke eventually starts to emit from it*
I can't stop laughing at Hitch with a comb for his molded mane and tail.
Is this another company cocktail party game creation? Is anyone at Hasbro even paying attention to the accessory they package with the pony?
Ponyfan
i just keep thinking the molded hair for boys mustve come from market research. like maybe kids born in 2016 were confused by boys with long comb-able hair?
older kids, like 10+ maybe were okay? but I’m thinking the little kids werent tracking it
^ maybe!
i think Hasbro of the 1980s is quite a different thing than Hasbro of 2020/2021.
the toy battlefield is quite different now - so many more options and apps and smart phones to compete with. I don’t see Hasbro taking any risks with long-haired boys.
But they don't need to make long haired boys for them to be brushable. They just released a brushable set where Zipp has short brushable hair and it looks great. The boys still got molded helmet hair.
Thank you for the review, serena-hime! Wow, the picture of the two Pipps next to each other really makes the difference between the heads stand out. Singing Pipp's head definitely looks nicer, and she looks more complete with her headdress.
Why in the world would they use different hair types for the manes and tails
Oh man, that plastic seam on the snout is so ugly! It's super noticeable in the pic of the two Pipps. Why would they do that??
[/quote
If they're gonna give them so many details, why aren't they painting stripes and socks and doing gradient hair?
If they're gonna give them so many details, why aren't they painting stripes and socks and doing gradient hair?
One reason to not paint on the socks is that with play they would wear off over time. Also it might be harder to quality control. But I do wish they had done them, especially on the larger brushable toys.
As for the gradient hair, if you are referring to the one PonyFan just posted I think she does have gradient hair? For the ones with brushable hair maybe since it is only one character (?) that has gradient hair they didn't think it was worth it. Is there anyone other than Izzy that has gradient hair?
As for stripes I don't know what you meant

I don't know why anyone is worried about the packs with G4 characters included. It's clear they are using them to bridge the gap between generations

I had Grand Champion horses as a kid and their painted leg markings and hooves suffered alot. So I was guessing ponies would as well. Now, I did play with them (and my ponies) outside quite a bit, so that may vary by child.
I'm just coming back to that wording, "fans new and old".
Heh.
Is it wrong to think of G4 fans still as newish..?
The actual 'old' fans might've been happier to see Firefly, Twilight and Surprise..?
(Or not)

Rainbow Dash looks super cute in this style!I'm not the only one! I immediately thought Dash looked the cutest, and now I'm realizing she's the only one where you can't see the eyebrows... hmm... does anyone have a G5 pony and some acetone on hand? For science? :lookround:

I’m fine with whatevs but it IS amusing!
I'm unsure why you think the other half of the G4 main gals won't ever be in the G5 style, all 6 of them were already shown in a set for this gen with the G4.5 blind bag molds
Also when the box says"fans new and old" I'm guessing they mean "old but still in the target audience age range," that is, actual children.

That's a very good point! I think you hit the nail on the head. After all, other than specific nostalgic releases, Hasbro has always been more interested in appealing to kids, not the adult collectors.

My 90s Grand Champions are just fine. Some may be a bit yellowed but they came like that to me, when I started collecting again.
I'm willing to bet we'll see boys with brushable hair later down the lines, at least on the bigger ponies.
G4 did the same thing with the troll hair boys. They did that for a few waves, realized how much people hated it, and started giving them proper mohawks.
Hopefully when they see the displeasure for the moulded hair, they change it up later on.
They do seem pretty receptive to feedback for this gen, so far. At least it seems like it to me.
I really like the little jointed ones, I might get Izzy. She's my favourite of the bunch.
I *really* want the bigger Izzy with the super long hair. Don't know if I'll end up getting many G5s but I know for sure I'm getting her.
Checked for her in Walmart today, they didn't even have a single pony as it was. Not even the cheap little PonyLife rings.
I saw a large Talking Izzy today at Walmart! is she new? She was hard plastic but covered in plush-like cloth.Does she sing about her Unicorn Butt? That one isn't new, but I'm curious if there's a different one!
Has anyone seen single Trailblazer in stores? His head may be ugly, but I still want one.Not that I can remember so far. All of the others have popped up online except for him.

Yeah but they did it towards the very end of the generation and it was still mohawks. G4 boys just plain suck. >_<
I FINALLY found the large ones today!
I also saw the set of the small ones, but in my opinion they look kind of like cheap fakies, their hair was kinda bad, and their bodies look too long, like wiener-dogs.
The large ones are honestly amazing in quality, though!
They're really solid and heavy, little lighter than a Funko pony but heavier than a G4 FS.
Their hair is honestly amazing quality!! Feels like really nice Monster High hair, super silky, and it's *super* thick and well rooted!
Their heads are also on ball joints, which I find really cool!!
I wonder how customizing them would work, though I'm sure people have tried before I got here and I just haven't seen.
I was only going to get Izzy, but ended up loving Sunny so much I got her too. XD
Glad I did, because their accessories look so much better swapped!
I do have to say, their accessories are pretty cheap and dinky. But the headbands are nice, and I love the purse! It had a little book in it that actually opens and closes.
I also "fixed" the blue headband, because it had these weird long rubber streamers hanging off of it! It was kinda bizarre, but my cat loves the streamers now, so... XD
Also, weird thing to gush about, but I adore the new packaging. So easy to open, and I can touch the ponies before buying them now!! I really like that more than trying to peer at weird angles through a plastic bubble. Everything is tied down with paper rope now, you can just rip it all off and they fall right out!

Probably just going to call them Starscout & Moonbow, not a fan of the human names.
I can take more photos if anyone's curious about them. :)
(sorry about the cluttered background, we just moved like, yesterday)
They really grew on me! I still think they're a tad creepy, but like, in an endearing way? XD
But I mean, I feel the same about G3.5 and PonyLife.
I decided what good is there in being a pony elitist, I'll love them all, I'll embrace the creepy and weird. XD
Really hope they make more large ones!! I'll buy them all. XD
hasbro what are you doing to me

I think I'm in the minority that loves the mohawks. XD But I always headcanon the mohawk boys to be punks, anyway... My Shining Armor ditched his royal coat for a guitar. XD
But, Sandbar did have 'real' hair at the very end, there! A unique hairstyle, even. Though I know he was *super* hard to find for most people.
Yannow what I want, if they do decide to finally do a longhaired boy?
I want him to have longer, more luxurious hair than any girl ever has.
I want a Fabio pony. XD
Extra props if they make him like some sort of hippy or metalhead. XD *nods*
Yes please to Metalhead Fabio pony with locks long enough to make Rapunzel green with envy, and thick and heavy enough to make the BnGs froth at the mouth with rage.

So glad others agree! XD
Hey man, toy brands are becoming more and more socially/culturally aware, maybe we'll see it someday? XD
I do have to say one more thing about the G5 toys-
I know it's super weird but I wish they had slightly bigger/more defined rumps/hips- they have a wiener-dog shape to them, and it makes them look too skinny for a horse/pony. Everything else is okay.
Literally the only reason I wish that is that it would give them more of a horse look-
Horses have big butts, it is what it is. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Especially for ponies, which are naturally little chunkers.
They weren't shy about it for any of the other gens! Lmao
Obviously not a deal breaker, and it is super weird to say- but(t) I mean, am I wrong? XD XD
Thank you LaW XD

I am obsessed with the G5 larges, now.......... XD
I'm kicking myself for buying Starscout & Moonbow single now. XD Cause I want the Shining multipack.
I bought the Shining Adventures pack at Target and added on some of their markings. The toys are very high quality, but it really bugs me that they are lacking the stockings and blazes that make the characters them! I kind of wanted to try and remove the molded hair on the boys and attemp to root them, but then I wasn’t feeling that ambitious, so I just added some glitter to their hair to help separate it from the body some.

Absolutely love them with their markings, it adds so much to them! I wish Hasbro wouldn't approve character designs they have no intention of representing correctly.
"Sure, give Twilight 3 hair colors lol"
"Sure, give the new characters socks and blazes lol"
Sigh.

I'm not overly concerned with show accuracy either but a MLP show usually is created with the goal of selling toys in mind, so I don't know why they bothered to design characters with markings that aren't going to be on the toys to begin with?
I was excited to finally have horsey markings on MLP charas, only to find out the toys wouldn't get them! I was a bit bummed.
I found a couple of the Play Packs at Target but not the invisible ink book that someone else mentioned.
I did find this Princess Petals at Walmart though.

YES solo Princess Petals!! I have a *mighty need!I don't know, I don't care for Zipp's hair to be like something with styling product in the hair XD (at least that was what I heard was that her hair was stiff from glue being used to keep the style or something similar)
Now I just really want that other peg as a solo and I'll be set, holding out on the boys until they fix the hair. :)
(How ironic that the short haired girl gets real, styled hair, and the boys still have plastic chunks. XD just what
like we know you can do it now, Hasbro)
i'd think it would be too early to only sell variations of the main characters... seeing this thread tells me im wrong
i'd think it would be too early to only sell variations of the main characters... seeing this thread tells me im wrong
Oof yeah. G4 began with some alright variety for its early years and then after that began the bombarding of the main cast, but G5 just begins with it immediately. I hope we see some more variety once this first wave is out. There have been some non-"Mane 5", such as Sprout being included in that stylizing size set, and some non-main cast ponies included in that large molded hair set in the Amazon exclusive set, but that's hardly anything. :/ And the upcoming set that has both Mane 5 and Mane 6 ponies I guess but..... should we really count that?
I still love them but I can't get over the red boy's expression.
What is that?
He looks like his friend in class just walked by and farted in his face, but the class has to be silent because they're taking a test, so he's just giving him the really!? dying-inside look from across the room.
Idk why that was the first scenario that popped into my head, but it's all I can see now. XD
Maybe Hitch is to blame.
I do wish they had their markings, as well. :(
Holding out hope for later iterations, as well as real hair for the boys. (Seriously, the girl gets real short hair but boys get plastic bricks? XD)

I may be wrong but I'm guessing we're probably going to see a lot more of this core cast concept and a lot less variety with G5 going forward. I hope not, but because we're still tied to G4's world and G4's characters (with different appearances but same personalities) and so on, I feel like they're going to try the same marketing ploy.
Well, it does work and it can be successful. It's just a bit dull.
I don't see G5 being controversial like G4 (although that clip where they all run away from Izzy is already begging to be ripped apart by diversity awareness groups) so I don't see the core cast being repeated ad nauseum as a huge deal, just not very exciting...
But then G5 doesn't seem very fresh, new or exciting anyway. It's occurred to me how close Petals and Izzy's colour schemes are, and how little colour variety there is overall - bar maybe Zipp who seems to be a bit different from the base palette of purple/orange/shades in between with some pink.
So yeah. I don't think this gen is about variety. I think it's about playing it safe and perhaps trying to return the ideas of G4 to the kids...
When are we getting more unicorns? They have 1 toy, and a handful shown in the trailer. Only one of which is (mis)named.

Excellent question-we have some unicorns shown in the advent calendar toy that are yet to be named or seen, but it's definitely pegasus favoritism so far.
I found Zipp yesterday. I think this Walmart store is confused about what should be on the clearance aisle. Zipp and the Princess Petals I posted earlier both have clearance stickers even though they are brand new toys that just came out.
visitors can't see pics , please register or login
Okay I need that Zipp! I was hoping singles of the main case would show up in that size (me: thinking of this because I now need my OC in a G5 style)
Ponyfan
Zipp is the only one so far who looks at all appealing to me in terms of her colour-scheme not being pink/purple, but that hair is just...awkward? Does she have more mane than just the quiff? It looks like it but..?
Also, that's really random on the part of the store. Maybe they don't realise these are new MLP rather than old? (I can see how they'd be confused, the logo is basically the same.)

She reminds me of Gusty. I haven't seen her ip yet. I'll be delighted if her stripe is green.

I WANT to like the G5s because I think their colors, accessories, and personalities seem really cute! But their flat faces bother me...they have less of a pony snout and more human-like facial proportions

I've never seen the brushable ones in person, so I can't speak for those, but the molded hair ones actually have a lot more snout than the promo images let on :) More of a muzzle than g4s!
I filmed an unboxing of Crystal Adventures Sunny and Pipp a while back, and show them from different angles. I definitely don't find their faces flat ^^'

Wait wait whoa -- an alicorn Sunny? This is the first time I'm hearing about this!
I know the gang wears fake horns in the movie to pretend to be unicorns at one point, but I didn't know anything about wearing fake wings. Although there seems to be a rainbow stripe in her mane, so maybe this is some sort of "powered up" version of herself, rather than a disguise?
I'm really desperate to know more lore about this world, but I'm wondering if this is just a toy thing and not something that's actually going to be in the movie...
Wait wait whoa -- an alicorn Sunny? This is the first time I'm hearing about this! Most of the talk I’ve seen about the movie seems to lead to the conclusion that it is some kind of temporary “rainbow power up” version of Sunny that’ll happen at some point in the film. Guess we’ll have to see :what:

Look, she's wearing all orange. That clearly indicates she's a super sayan. (Or an escaped convict.) Take your pick.

I took another look at Zipp today and I think her jacket is removable. It is a really flexible plastic and has those holes/lines that help plastic clothes go on hard plastic toys.
Someone must have alerted the store to their mistake. The remaining perfect Zipp had been moved to the toy aisle with the other new ponies and the clearance sticker was gone. There was one Zipp left on clearance. Someone had tried to undo the part of the mane that sticks up so the mane was split in 2 sections that both looked terrible.

The yellow one looks like it might be a boy. The head shape seems a little more angular.Yes, it's a boy ;) https://youtu.be/1lKCcxK5OHk

I'm alright with these for what they are, but I agree that they'd be much more appealing as brushables :satisfied:https://www.mlptp.net/index.php?threads/royal-gala-set-review-pic-heavy.116463/

Very cool! I hope the new ponies get brushables, I'm not very into the look of these molded hair ones.
Thanks for the picture; I hadn't really noticed the yellow before :whoa:l
I saw the G5s for myself today and wow, I have to admit, they DO look much better in person than on the photos! All of you guys who said their faces look much less flat IRL were right! They're still not really 'my style' but I'll concede, they look much better than I thought they did.Glad they're not-so-flat. A dachshund is funny comparison, lol :silly:
...Well, except the big Sunny (the one a few posts up - BTW I didn't notice all the colours in her hair before, either :o), she still looks a bit too Dachshund-y to me x) But the little molded-hair ones in the accessory packs are actually quite cute! Plus it was just nice to see new ponies again, most of G4.5 and the later G4s never came out over here (not in my area, at least).
I got better pictures of Zipp today. I'm still undecided if any G5 ponies will join my herd but Zipp is really growing on me and is at the top of the list if they should decided to sneak in.

I noticed as I was unboxing my 6 inch Pipp that she has body differences to Sunny and Izzy! I was surprised because the 3-inchers seem to not have this.
I've bitten the bullet and ordered the set with Sprout, hopefully I can find SOME variation in releases.

I just washed out Zipp's hair product. Her hair is a bit short and sits funny but at least I can brush it now! She's drying, will update tomorrow.Ooh, I'm very curious as to how she's going to look :wonder:
Oooooo would love to see pics of Zipp with her new hair!Same!
So it looks like Zipp’s mohawk just blends into the rest of the hair. Can you tell what is in the hair to keep it stiff?I'm not sure but it feels like the same stuff they used in the Magic of Everypony set in 2017. It stays in pretty well until it's wet-maybe some sort of hairspray? There doesn't feel like there's any physical amount of product that I have removed. Whatever it is is certainly sprayed.
I'm starting to think the singles of the larger Pipp and Zipp are only at select stores... If I had time I'd check the other Walmart in the area but I may just have to settle to haven them shipped x.xI looked at my local Walmart and they didn't have those two, so you may be onto something there.

Does anyone know if the Crystal Adventure Hitch set actually got made/released? I remember seeing prototype pics, but I haven't seen any reports of him actually being found in stores.
Maybe I'm mistaken and he wasn't actually part of that set...I remember in the picture he had shoes and looked like the same type of figure as the others, but perhaps he is actually part of a set we haven't seen yet.

I'm wondering how much of this will even get to us this winter given all the shipping issues at the moment. It will be interesting to see what shows up :) I know some things are here already but I suspect some of the newer items might not get here till spring.

In box stock pics do exist on mlpmerch. I'm not sure where they were found but it's possible he's from a later wave or a store exclusive.

Now that I think of it, I did catch a bit on the news the other night about how they were encouraging parents to start their Christmas shopping for their kids early this year because of such delays. I wonder if it will be impacting the Basic Fun ponies, too.

Your not wrong, but you know how shoddy Hasbro's distribution is under normal circumstances.

Yep, that set exists at least in stock photos! Just not on the poster that I got from the other Crystal Adventure sets. :P I’m wondering if maybe he will be part of a wave 2 shipment along with more Crystal Adventure Izzys once manufacturing and shipping delays catch up. That Izzy is pretty impossible to find in stores here, either due to her being extremely popular or under-manufactured and delayed, or just not shipped with the other girls. All we have are Sunny, Zipp and Pipp galore.
i was also just wondering about the G5 set stuff. All that seems available right now are the ebay options or amazon set. I have not seen any MLP in my local wal-mart or targets so... boo. I was finally going to cave and get my nieces ponies and now it seems no luck finding them in stores so I wonder was the movie popular enough so folks will wait out this shipping storm/nightmare back-up or since hasbro also got hit with recent passing of its CEO is that gonna factor in whether these toys are around after the holidays if they aren't going to make it to port in a month?
I got the Unicorn Party Pack from Walmart as a birthday present :D After seeing them in person, I really like the toys. The almost smooth wings are kinda weird but they'll be easy to clean (not that I expect my ponies to get dirty, I'm thinking more of secondhand ponies). I like the different eye shapes and LOVE the hooves. The hair seem like nice quality too but I haven't really messed much with the hair yet, just first impressions. I do wish Hutch had real hair and that... Pip? the white pegasus, had her butch cut.Congrats, and I hope your having a good birthday today.
While I was in the toy aisle (I had to exchange the pack because the first one my mom ordered was missing Sunny... not sure how an employee could miss that but whatever, it's Walmart) I looked at some of the other toys and there were quite a few I would like to have.
Saw these in NZ yesterday. They are SO expensive. $20-30 per pony and they felt very light and cheap.

Do you have Meijer near you? I finally looked in one and it had so many G5 and Basic Fun ponies, including the Sunny/smoothie set and Izzy/forest pets set. I wish I had looked there sooner! My Target still had nothing, though.
I would love a Sunny and Argyle set! But I agree it might be a little too sad...This lack in G3 is why I headcanon G3 adultss to be a little younger than G1 adults. My Celebration Castle is a college
Remember in G3 when a couple "big sister and little sister" sets came out and we all wondered why Hasbro didn't just do mom and baby sets like they did in the 80's?

So I'm now just getting to posting this.
Here is 8" Izzy (I haven't been able to sneak Sunny in)Spoiler
Her body is a hard plastic and her head seems to be on the same kind of neck plug as older ponies (G3 and back).
I have not tamed her hair yet... because of the "no plastic" packaging, her hair is a bit on the tangled side
Looks like Hitch is getting his own 6in single finally
https://www.mlpmerch.com/2021/11/walmartcom-lists-6-inch-rockin-ranger.html
I still hope that they will create a bigger version of Hitch with actual hair (I don't like that fuzzy molded hair at all) so this one I will also skip. I do love that lil bunny and I do like that vest as well as his belt with badges.
I didn't realize it was fuzzy?

I agree about being able to somewhat replicate his hair. Even though they attempted with Zipp, it's still not well replicated as they could have actually made the back curl shorter and still use the stuff to stiffen it to give it shape unless it had to do with the number of rows for the hair (I haven't combed my Zipp's hair out yet to see)Looks like Hitch is getting his own 6in single finally

Yay! He looks good! And he has so many fun accessories, like that cool vest and the clip on wings and the sheriff belt. The hat looks a little strange on him somehow, but I like the idea.
Still not wild about the molded hair, but I'm not sure how else his hairstyle could have been replicated  I think it is nice that it is at least flocked :)
I combed out my Zipp a bit ago. I'm too lazy to get up to compare, but here's her plugs:

I don't see why they couldn't have just given her shorter hair either. I'd prefer either super short or inaccurately really long (I love her hair colors). Combed out it's still rather short.
Haha everyone in this thread keeps saying how the G5 faces look much better in person than in online photos and I was privately thinking "They must be exaggerating..." But then I saw the G5's up close today for the first time and YES they are so much better in person! How do the photos look bad every single time? XD It's like each stock photo went for the angle that made the faces the absolute chubbiest on purpose.

LOL, it's true! Like their eyes look crazed in photos but fine in real life.
I think part of it is that some stock photos (especially the earlier ones) aren't real toys, but CGI models. Which adds a layer of uncanniness to them.
I like Hitch's accessories. A lot of them seem to be more park ranger / forest ranger oriented than sheriff oriented, which makes sense with his animal connection. Also that bunny is sooo cute!

Kind of interesting to see the orange pony "not shortpacked" after Applejack was left out of so many G4 sets! (But Sunny is the main protagonist so I guess that makes sense.)
Still not sure about this gen and I don't get out anymore to see them in person. Not sure if they are worth ordering online.
