Title: Tinsel or no Tinsel?
Post by: ShimmerShine on August 05, 2017, 07:53:32 PM
My first real pony is my G2 Lady Lightheart. I adore her, but the tinsel in her mane makes is all crinkled and makes it a pain to brush her hair. Because of this, I'm not really a fan of Tinsel, but what about you? Do you love sparkly tinsel in your ponies hair, or think they'd look better without it?

I love tinsel, but I hate when I brush it and it pulls out.

Depends on the quality of the tinsel for me. I don't like most of the G3 tinsel, the pearlescent / clear stuff.  It just tangles  too easily and IMO it doesn't look that great to begin with.  But I do like the colored tinsel used on Fizzy Pop and the other ponies in her set.  It's heavier, blends into the hair better, and just seems prettier and more durable.

G1 tinsel is high quality and usually looks nice.  Although I don't like the "poof" of tinsel on the second set of Princess ponies or the tinsel used on the nameless eyelash princesses.

With any generation, I hate it when it's frizzled.

I have a love-hate relationship with tinsel. It's very pretty when the hair is nice and neat (especially colored tinsel!), but when hair is frizzy, tinsel makes it look significantly worse.

The more tinsel the better if you ask me! Gives ponies a sparkly look  :)

I love the G1 tinsel. I dont really like the G3 and beyond tinsel or the current stuff its just very cheap. :/  I used to de-tinsel ponies. Now I really just don't care.

eek, tough call! Good tinsel is amazing, but bad tinsel is like, whoa...

..usually if It's bad, I'd say: "put the little mare out of her bad-hair-day misery, and get on that de-tinselling, STAT!"

I haven't de-tinselled in the longest time though, I've been SUPER lazy regarding pony prettification of late!!

As long as it is not super tangled, frayed, or just awful I like it.

I adore tinsel when it's in nice shape, but absolutely despise it when it's not. There's no in between I either love it or hate it depending on the condition.

I do seriously love the sparkle though. Especially like the tinsel in Pony Bride's hair - that is the most gorgeous.

I like tinsel. But if it's of cruddy quality and pulls out and crinkles really easy, then it become a hassle. I agree about the pony bride tinsel. That stuff is quite pretty!

I hate tinsel. I think ponies look much prettier without it.

I am with what looks to be the majority here: nice, neat new tinsel is awesome. Ratty, crinkled tinsel just makes everything look 100% worse.

I like it... don't think I could be bothered taking it out even if it was in poor shape. XD

I second what many other users have said!  Tinsel in good condition (especially the colored tinsel) is honestly super gorgeous, but it can be kind of frustrating if it gets messed up.  I have never de-tinseled a pony, though.  Usually even if the tinsel is in lousy shape I just do my best to style it in a way that makes it look as good as possible and call it a day.  I love the extra sparkle it adds!

I really like tinsel, especially in good shape like the others here :) I can't bear to de-tinsel a pony though, I feel like I'm pulling out part of their hair

It depends on the quality of the tinsel. I normally love tinsel, but if it's been pulled too much and is generally just a big mess, it bothers me. I never de-tinsel a pony, though, even if the tinsel is gone beyond repair. Part of me just wants sparkly hair no matter what.

I detinseled a few G3s back in the day.  They looked great afterwards, but it took sooo long.
