My childhood best friend gave me her ponies!  However, the basement that they were stored in had flooded.  When I got them I gave them a light sponge bath in hot soapy water, but they still smell awful.  Just imagine mildew, dirt, and general ick.

If you have any advice to offer with smell, grime, etc. I'd be greatly appreciative.

**When using a magic eraser on these do I need to be careful of not spreading "stuff" from one pony to another?

**What do you guys use to clean the insides of all their legs?  I haven't found anything that worked well.

Thank you!!!

Putting them in a bin with baking soda should help with the smell.  Be careful of glitter with Magic Eraser, but no you don't need to worry about cross-contamination.

I use a toothbrush and a baby bottle brush to get inside the legs - sometimes those poses have tricky angles!

OH and Congrats!  That is super that she gave you her old ponies!

Simple Green also helps to remove the moldy smell.
Try soaking one of them in it first to see how it responds.
It is a natural product and will not harm the pony.

Congrats on such a nice collection!  I'm sure the smell will only be temporary.

I say if you pop the heads off
got at the insides with the baby bottle brush where needed
condition the manes and tail with a deep conditioner, brush it in wet, rinse out cool water, brush manes around neck to air dry
leave heads off for awhile to dry out pony inside as well
use magic eraser to wash that pony body
remove any rust washers around the tails inside
perhaps after they are all clean, dry , put back together and have air dryed they will smell nice
Shelt-i I like the idea of that organic cleaner, great idea
I also like the baking soda idea...I say once they are properly cleaned if they still stink store them correctly in a tote with a good box of that stuff open in there to soak the smell up in the tote like you would do in the fridge

Wow! What an amazing line up of ponies :) Congrats honey!

I agree if they have a strong mildew smell they will need to be taken apart; heads off, tails out and a nice soak in something [such as Simple Green] or in a tupperware with some baking soda and then the fresh air, then baking soda again, then fresh air.

Good luck!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I also say take off there heads, cause they also might be a good cleaning in the inside of them to.

If you happen to have cats, burying the pony in clean cat litter is another option to get rid of any smells. Which ever way you use, it's going to take some time, so be patient. I also think you should pop all their heads off, if they have been in water or in a wet enviroment there's a good chance there's mold or rust inside that you need to clean so it doesn't start showing outside also. When cleaning, put aside any ponies that have glitter, tinsel, color changing parts or this particular neon yellow shade of hair that for example those rainbow ponies have, those are the ones you need to be careful with.
