What condition do you look for in the ponies you collect?

Mint or NM condition, totally original ponies.
Ponies that display well, hidden marks acceptable, but all original.
Anything that looks good, including replicas and rehairs etc.
Mistreated ponies, so I can pamper them in my spa!
Custom bait - I primarily customize.
Other - please specify

What condition do you look for in your collection?
« on: April 02, 2013, 05:21:21 PM »
Hey everyone! Sorry if there's a thread like this, I couldn't find one, but feel free Mods to close this if necessary!

I was just wondering what everyone looks for in their ponies - specifically ponies that make it into your official collection of ponies. The options above pretty much cover all the possibilities I could think of, but I'm sure I've missed some out.

I'm also allowing people to vote for as many of the options as you want, because I know more than one option may apply.

I love to collect NM ponies, but am happy to have ponies which display well with hidden marks. I'd also take a replica of a rare pony, or a rehair of (for example) a faded-pink haired pony. On the flipside, I'm also happy to get a mangy pony and fix em up!

I'll take just about any pony.
While I prefer them to look as nice as possible, rehairs are as good as original in my books so long as they match the factory colors, length and style.  Not going to turn my nose up at a pony just because she's been restored, if there's no way you can tell short of pulling her head off to check the way the plugs are made.

I tend to go for ponies I can fix up simply because they're more cost effective.  Stuff that can't be fixed back to factory original like chews or damaged windy/summer wings tend to put me off.

I'm not picky! My budget is limited and it's the girls who were well loved and then perhaps forgotten for years that need the most love.

I am not picky unless they come from a smokers home.

I'll take 'em all! Not sure I'd have the chops to fix broken horns or rusty BBEs, but maybe someday.

If I'm paying shipping, I want NM or better- all original.

But, I go to live auctions, thrifts, markets and hunt anywhere else that has second hand toys, I'll take any pony no matter how bad looking they are *if* the price is right. :) I like spa time too, but with the costs of buying online I avoid ponies in need of any work.

It all depends on where I am getting them from. If I am thrifting or garage sale shopping I am happy to get any g1. If I were to buy something special then I would get the mintiest pony in my budget. I love to upgrade when I find doubles as well. I enjoy making ponies ss pretty as I can through spa time : )

I'm not picky in the least! I've even got a few ponies in my collection that had missing limbs :frolic:

More recently I look for G1s who aren't in great shape. A lot of times they're labeled bait but I 'adopt' them if they have potential to still look nice as they are, without needing new hair or symbol repaints. I tend to find ponies with haircuts endearing, so I really like to rescue them when I can (as long as they have more than an inch of hair or so, even if it's frizzy I prefer original to new hair). I have a lot of ponies with marks, chews, discoloration, etc. but love them just the same as a mint pony.

But I do have a lot of near mint/mint ponies too. I have come across them on the internet and locally. I rarely turn down G1s I find if they are priced fairly, no matter the condition.

I would have to say "other" because none of those describes me.  I don't mind rehairs at all but I do mind hidden marks.  And replicas?  What do you mean by that?

I'm not very picky. I'm fine if they have been restored.
