Pony Corral / Unreleased G3 Ponies Found in Sticker Book
« on: October 15, 2023, 08:15:33 PM »
I've finally had enough time off from work to scan and edit these stickers from a sticker set. :)

sharing from my own blog, of course, in regards to the watermark

In 2006 Reader's Digest Children's Books released the Fun Days in Ponyville: Storybook and Playset. It looks like the storybook was also sold as a standalone release. The book itself isn't interesting, its more of the same "look at the little ponies play!" with the typical Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, you know the cast. The case folds out into a couple different scenes for the stickers. Most stickers were of reoccurring characters... except for these two! They don't have names or anything attached to them.

My theories:

Pumpkin: If intended to be a 2006 holiday release, she could be a third Halloween pony to complete the typical holiday trio, or an earlier design for Pumpkin Tart. If she was supposed to be released in 2005, maybe an early design for Autumn Crisp, who's also purple, pumpkin-themed, and is rendered with noisy hair (tinsel)?

Banana Split: I personally don't think she fits in with the rest of 2006's line-up, so I think she's a 2005 pony, which opens up her options for releases. There was the Super Sundaes Ice Cream Parlor that could've used a unique pony character, the Dazzle Bright line (comparable to Coconut Cream, white pony/sweets theme/colourful hair), the Sunny Scents line (she could've easily been vanilla scented), or you could've simply put her into the "Perfectly Pony" line. She's also comparable to Caribbean Delight (white pony with colourful hair) and Alphabittle (rainbow hair, blue bowl of food accompanied by swirl designs) which also released in 2005.

Very cute! I wonder if its a standalone thing or if Hasbro is doing something else with it 🤔

Pony Corral / How do you store Backcards?
« on: April 09, 2023, 07:24:24 PM »
Trying to straighten out my shelves a bit and I have all my backcards just kind of loose tucked away somewhere. I thought about putting them in maybe a nice binder with sheet protectors, but the cards vary in size (I only have 1 G1 card, and it's so much bigger than G3s), so that might not be so practical. So maybe just a portfolio of sorts? Like just a plain folder? Then what if it gets too full, then it all just spills out again...

I still think heavy duty sheet protectors would be the best bet...? I've been keeping G3 cards as in-tact as possible, but they're more than just cards, it's half a box that's all folded, and that's gonna be awkward to store unless I cut them all up.

Pony Corral / Was Pinkie Pie's original name CUTIE PIE?
« on: January 21, 2023, 11:29:17 PM »
Completely overlooked a childhood Valentine card of mine that says "Hi, Cutie Pieā„¢! Happy Valentine's Day!", with a picture of Pinkie Pie. The back of the card says Cutie Pie is a trademark of Hasbro, 2003. I can't remember if there's confirmation or any other sources anywhere on this being her actual name at any point, or if it was just speculation. Either way, not talked about much, it seems.

Ponytopia was the first site I checked for info, nope. eMLP seems to be down, not that it was easy to navigate in the first place. Obviously no info on MLW, and no info about it on Strawberry Reef. Even Googling doesn't come up with any immediate results, granted I haven't looked deep enough (lots of FiM speculation getting in the way)

Ironically, I don't see a trademark for CUTIE PIE from Hasbro. According to USPTO, the absolute earliest G3 trademark (not including ones for MY LITTLE PONY) was for RAINBOW DASH on 9/11/2002, "intended to cover the category of toy ponies and accessories for use therewith". The earliest for Pinkie Pie was PINKIE PIE, "intended to cover the categories of candy cake decorations, chewing gum and candy", dated 11/13/2002.

Was Pinkie Pie really originally CUTIE PIE, or do you think it was a mistake on American Greetings' (who made the Valentines) part?

Pony Corral / Pony Availability in Your Area/Does MLP Sell?
« on: November 26, 2021, 08:56:01 PM »
Wondering what everyone's pony aisles are looking like ATM.

I was thinking about making a post like this for a while, because it seems like G5s have weird availability. Decided to make it today because they aren't selling well in my area. They were selling decently before the movie came out, and now they haven't moved any it seems. I go to Walmart twice a week and check every time, and nothing ever moves. Today, Black Friday, the shelves looked totally normal, how they always look! It doesn't look like anyone bought ANY ponies! Spirit toys were picked over and every Care Bear-related item was sold out, except for Wish Bear. MLP? Not a dent. Plenty of plushes, plenty of castles, plenty of styling Zipps, Pipps, and Sunnys, a couple of styling head Izzys.

Not G5, but my friend found the Amazon-exclusive Mane 6 seapony sets at a store, but they couldn't sell them, so they resorted to cutting the box open and selling each individual pony for $1 or so each, they had tons and tons and tons of Explore Equestria ponies too. This was about a month ago, but they're probably still there.

What's the deal with MLP nowadays? Why doesn't it sell, why doesn't anyone care about it? Back during the G4 days I never saw little girls carry around ponies nor saw them in the pony aisle, they didn't care about ponies the way they did with Shopkins. When Toys R Us was closing here, they had huge bins full of Seaquestria castles they couldn't sell. Target had a single Songbird Serenade plush they couldn't sell for over 2 years. I never saw any FiM Collection sets after the Apple Family themed sets because they couldn't sell them. The clearance bins were full of Apple Family ponies for a long time. No one could sell the Capper and Rarity sets, I never saw anyone buy the Power Ponies sets, no one wanted the pirate ponies, Five Below had an entire wall dedicated to a certain release of Princess Celestia. Even local listings like Facebook Marketplace, whenever I try to look up MLP stuff, there aren't a lot of offerings-- you can't sell ponies if you never bought them to begin with!

I'll probably update here with how the pony aisle is holding up whenever I go to Walmart. Not necessarily something for the "Out Now and Coming Soon" thread, just... updates as to whether things are moving.

One positive I can say, when G5 stuff *was* selling, Zipp was more popular. Her and Pipp's plushes were selling and every time I went into Walmart there were less and less. Sometimes I would see a misplaced Pipp on the other side of the store, and I even saw a girl in the checkout line with one. :) Sunny and Izzy are another story, they weren't really selling.

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Question about Breyers? Arctic Grandeur
« on: October 28, 2021, 03:57:33 PM »
I bought this year's Holiday Horse from the official Breyer site along with some other things. The other things arrived, but NOT the model horse I spent $60 on. I've never bought Breyers online before, so I don't know how their site operates or what the deal is with how they ship things, especially things that are more "limited" like this. I ordered him the night he came out, it said he was on "backorder". Not "sold out" just "backorder". Not sure what that means, but they did ship him out with my other things.

Allegedly.

The receipt says everything was shipped on the same day, and has been "fulfilled", and that the horse has been delivered. It was not.

Posting here since it's horse adjacent and there doesn't seem to be very many active Breyer communities? Plus, I'm not really a *Breyer* collector. I do like them, but not enough to go onto a dedicated forum to ask about it. I sent an email to them, which on the "Contact Us" page says they respond within one business day. Well, it's been about one business week! Do they usually take this long to respond? Should I send them another email?!

Is Arctic Grandeur even out? Does anyone else have him?! I have the pin, but not the actual horse...?

Arts & Crafts Corral / My new OC thread...
« on: August 25, 2021, 08:35:53 PM »
My other one got too old 😱
Wanted to show off my "new" OCs that I drew in G5's style:

Spick n Span, Prim n Proper, and Fine n Dandy, all siblings to my previously showcased OC Bells n Whistles (how I type their names is inconsistent, sometimes I say "and", sometimes I put in an ampersand, haha). I think in other gens they should be earth ponies but the pegasi in G5 are so darn cool, and well, they are bird themed.

I designed Bells n Whistles back in 2016 and I had the name Prim n Proper in mind too at the time, but she was based off a poodle instead of a pigeon. I got the idea to use the name "Spick n Span" and "Fine n Dandy" but didn't have any ideas for them, until I noticed the similarities they have with the "and" in their names, so I decided to make them all siblings, and bird-themed as well. ;) I had another name too but I can't remember it for the life of me...

I've yet to draw Bells n Whistles in this style so that will be on the agenda for tomorrow (hopefully).

Because I love designing families apparently, here's a nautical themed one I designed back in June:

Saw the word "gongoozler" and wanted to make a pony based off of that. There was a dad but I couldn't figure out a design for him. None of them really have names... Mom was supposed to be Gongoozler but that sounds a bit masculine...?

Pony Brag Arena / "Unicorn Charms" Izzy Moonbow
« on: July 19, 2021, 07:35:38 PM »
Not really a brag, but I guess I'll share her here. I thought Izzy was consistently one of the ugliest ponies in the merchandise, but she's much cuter IRL, especially once you fix her hair. :) I ordered some of the brushables before they went out of stock, I wonder how they'll look fixed up.

I'd like to post a full in-depth review on my blog tomorrow. In short, her hair is polypropylene... she's very cute but... polypropylene! Not a dealbreaker but it's not nylon. The hair is very thick (like a G3.5) and isn't dry like a late G4, but it feels so greasy and slippery, each plug of hair wants to do its own thing, it's a pain to style! I heard a couple people praise the hair but I just don't like it. It's so oily-feeling. I haven't tried to wash it. I think she has some factory curl but once I started to try to get her hair out of the rubber bands they all fell out. Her tail curls are still there, though. Her "scalp" is rooted just like that, a scalp, it even goes around her horn!

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / "Features" in Playsets?
« on: June 03, 2021, 08:30:56 PM »
Looking at G4's playsets, they always had some sort of dumb feature like a slide, and the upcoming G5 castle supposedly has a zipline feature. I was thinking, do kids actually like this kind of thing?

G3 was my childhood generation, and luckily we didn't have any stupid slides, which is probably the worst feature you can put on a playset. Celebration Castle's weird "feature" was the elevator, which I only used like once or twice. It was clunky and not very fun to use. Just teleport to the second floor like the rest of us? And the Rainbow Wishes Amusement Park's ferris wheel wing things were weird as well. Never used the similar wing-spinny thing on the Butterfly Island set. Those wings were on flimsy little hooks, the wing accessories were better used by themselves.

One of the playset features I actually liked as a kid were the hamster tubes in the LPS houses. The magnet-related gimmicks I thought were decently done in both MLP and LPS, whether it was something to activate something or used for things like "dance floors".

G1 seems to not have very many features, which is good. Only thing I can think of is the waterfall. I guess the pool in Paradise Estate could count as a feature, but it's more of a bowl than anything. XD The Dream Castle has the pulley but it's not really a selling feature, just a small detail.

But did you guys ever like features like this, MLP or other brands? If you have kids, do they like stuff like this? What are some good, cool features you like? Features you think are dumb? (the correct answer to this question is "slides")

Pony Corral / Dimensions for Celebration Castle?
« on: May 20, 2021, 01:51:21 PM »
One of my most wanted items ATM is Celebration Castle. I had it as a kid, and going off memory, I have a vague idea of how big it is, but I need to know a more exact number if I were to buy it again. Displaying it could be an issue, haha.

Looking for width and length while FOLDED, as well as height.

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Sylvanian Families/Calico Critters Ponies!
« on: March 05, 2021, 07:46:09 AM »
The official Japanese Twitter account for Sylvanian Families announced two pony characters: Mother Serafina Manely and her daughter, Sally. (Names are in Katakana still so they may change for English... I'm guessing it will be spelled "Manely" because they're horses!) They're white with long, blonde manes, and Serafina has a purple strip in her forelock.

A salon is being released with Sally, and Serafina gets a smaller accessory set. No word from Sylvanian UK yet, and the US (Calico Critters) doesn't even have a Twitter account! So who knows when they'll be released outside of Japan or how much they'll cost. Converting Yen to USD, Serafina should be around $20 which is typical for accessory sets like this, but the salon with Sally is around $65!

What are your thoughts? I wish they looked more like ponies. They look like dogs to me, and the fact that Epoch keeps giving hoofed animals paws doesn't help. There are some pictures on the Japanese site of them from behind but their tails aren't visible. This also feels like the most trendy SF thing out right now, since SF tries to go for a more neutral, timeless aesthetic. This is very pastel, and I say "trendy" because the salon comes with a unicorn horn flower crown headband! Google "unicorn craft" and you get tons and tons and tons of images of the same looking "closed-eyes long eyelashes unicorn wearing a flower crown" type thing. Not necessarily a complaint, but it seems a bit out of character for SF.

The exterior of the salon itself is a bit lacking too in my opinion. The other Sylvanian stores have more paint and detail to them while this one is solid white with no details other than the stickers. :( The other stores are around $30-40 while this one is over $60... the amount of accessories seems about the same too, but the difference is that the salon is two-story while the others are only single-story.

There aren't any family sets announced yet and I hope they'll come out with more horses. I probably won't get the salon but I might try to get Serafina.

EDIT: I forgot to mention... "Osharena Pony"... they may not be Takaras, but hey! :silly:

Arts & Crafts Corral / Ragamuffin's Art 2021
« on: February 07, 2021, 05:57:30 AM »
New year new thread. :) First proper art of the year, at least for MLP. Here's a cleaned up version of "Valenpie" from my Seasonal Mane 6 series.

This one got its own thread but I'll repost it here. Half a 2020 art, half a 2021 art! But it's probably more like 80% 2020 and 20% 2021... :P

Arts & Crafts Corral / G5 Prediction
« on: January 30, 2021, 04:46:10 AM »
I just made a big, long, prediction post on my blog. Here's a short version of what I think G5 is going to be, along with the art I drew for it:

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

In my crystal ball I'm seeing a Celestia/Cadence/Luna-style head. They could be skinny and tall like them too, but it might be harder to make them stand up and display... besides, My Little Ponies are typically short! I think they will have horsey-er ears like in the 2017 Movie, coloured inside like G4.5/Pony Lifes. They're going to have big sparkly eyes, just like the G4.5s and 2017 movie ponies. Visible hooves and feathers are a must. The ponies will have eyebrows and pupils that look to the side. They're going to give the ponies sassy "Dreamworks" faces! There's going to be a pastel unicorn.

G5 is going to be adventure-driven again, just like late FiM, so I'm not expecting chibis like comedy Pony Life. The ponies will have to be more detailed than G4s too since the style has to work well in 3D. Does that mean we'll get eye sculpting? Of course not. The eyes will be as flat as ever.

As much as I would love body markings like in that blue pony up there and the leaked art, I don't know how likely it will be. Another thing that may-or-may not happen is glitter. Glitter is SUPER popular in toys right now, and I would want glitter on the ponies' hooves, wings, horns, and Cutie Marks. Maybe Hasbro could do this on select releases, but not all of them. Even though the ponies in the artwork and movie will have coloured-in ears and coloured-in hooves I expect the toys to rarely have them painted, if at all. I think unicorns might have different-coloured horns too as a response to the unicorn craze that's going on right now.

Something else I want but don't expect 100% is multi-coloured hair to be the norm again but I'm not sure how likely that will be. I would hope Hasbro continues having the current quality of hair with G5. Not that I love it, but it's better than what late G4 had.

Something I AM expecting (or at least... hoping for...) are multiple new playsets. We haven't seen a playset since the release of the school in 2018, that was THREE years ago already! G4.5 has not received one playset, save for the Wedding Castle re-release. The 2017 Movie had a TON of releases for it, like the Seaquestria Castle, the carousel re-release, the pirate ship, the various sea pony sets, and the FiM Collection Canterlot Castle. I think Hasbro would try to do the same for the G5 movie, or maybe even MORE since it's a new generation entirely and they want to really push it.

Bonus initial designs from a couple months ago. Back then I wasn't entirely sure what direction G5 would go in but now I feel like it's probably more like the ones shown above...
