Wanted! / Looking for Morning Glory
« on: December 23, 2018, 03:14:04 PM »
I'm looking for G1 Morning Glory. The one I have is a small head with a broken wing holder, so I would love a big headed variation with a wing bilder that is intact.

Off Topic / Web savy peeps? (I need suggestions)
« on: November 23, 2015, 05:06:24 AM »
I have decided to get my own web domain so that I can do whatever I want in WordPress. Setting up a corner on the web where I can have my own art gallery, writing projects and my CV seems approperiate since I have one semster left on my front end web development education. But what domain name do I choose?

It is a given that I choose a common top domain, like .com or .se. I would prefer my first name for the domain, but that is of course taken by one of these companies that just hog names. I could use firstnamelastname.something, but the problem is my last name. It is uncommon and has an "ä" in it, and I figure if people always ask me how it is spelled irl, how will they find me online? Should I use "ä" or "a"? Another option would be using my spouse's last name, but this is complicated for several reasons. For one, it is a common name and my first name plus this last name is taken on both .com and .se, and I don't know if I feel like adding a .eu to roster. Second, I'm not married yet!

This is personal webiste so any name won't do. I feel like it should be connected to my person, but I don't know how. What would you suggest? Do have a personal website of your own? What is it called and what have you done with it?

Off Topic / Anyone else tried watching Twelve Kingdoms?
« on: August 31, 2015, 12:46:34 AM »
I found the Twelve Kingdoms animé thanks to one of my biggest interests; unicorns. I watched it and was super excited, finally getting to see an animé with unicorns and finding out how they are portrayed, maybe getting new outlooks on the myth.

I quickly found the heroine unlikeable, but I looked past that. Her friends where not any more interesting than her and a few episodes later, their existence seemed wholly unimportant to the plot. I had to learn names of different that I could not tell apart because their names where all made up of one syllable. And then the emergence of an antagonist whose motivations made no sense whatsoever. But I looked past all of those things.

Then came the big issue: The pacing. I watched the series only from time to time because it dragged badly. About eighty percent of the time I was bored out of my mind. Then things started to happen. A new character was introduced, a monster appeared, or I learned something about the fantasy universe -- only to have it go by so fast I could not grasp it. I have forgotten how many episodes in I got, and I have also forgotten what was going on. Well, that is, if anything was going on. I for one seem to have missed it.

I've contemplated giving it a fourth chance since I really want to see some unicorns, but I realized that I can not be immersed in a story set in a world that I can't understand no matter how hard I try and want to. Therefore I went onto some boards to see what others had previously said about it, and they seem to agree that it is boring in the beginning. but becomes amazing later, after twenty(!) or so episodes. This seems to be because the series was based on books and "anything that is worth watching takes time to build up".They also mention the weak beginning and the non-ending as the shows biggest flaws, but: "It could've gone on for hundreds, hundreds of episodes and barely scratched the surface of the depth of the world".

So seriously; it has bad characters (that apparently develop over time if you are just intelligent enough to appreciate that an animé is paced like a fantasy novel), I don't get the world despite wanting to, the beginning is boring and the ending, although "amazing", is not an ending. What is supposed to keep me then? In my opinion this is why you need to adapt a story to fit its medium. I'm thinking about just reading a synopsis of the episodes and look for the parts that have unicorns in them. But I guess I'm also scared that once the series is spoiled for me, I will regret it. But the funny thing is I probably still won't understand what is going on.

Have you watched or tried to watch Twelve Kingdoms, or did you have trouble getting into another series?

Pony Corral / Fixing/displaying your winged G2s?
« on: August 26, 2015, 01:34:49 AM »
First some backstory. You may jump to the next section if you are disinterested in my nostalgic musings!

I have Princess Twinkle Star. Her backcard says that her wings magically appear when someone wishes upon a star. She would go on a nightly flight across the starry sky and use her powers by passing the brightest stars in an attempt to fulfil the dreams of her friends, but it seldom worked. When the glass ponies (fakies with transparent wings) turned one of the ponies into glass the others wished desperately for her recovery, but to no avail. One pony, Sky Skimmer, wished once for the chance to experience what it felt like to be in love and became irreversibly infatuated with the only stallion in the herd.

Anyway, the wings were only played with when the story called for it which meant that they remained in good condition throughout my childhood. After years of packing and unpacking her, more than one of the wing clamp "teeth" has unfortunately broken off and also sadly been lost. As I'm nearing the completion of my custom friendship garden I find myself wondering if I should display the two winged G2s I have, and how. Twinkle Stars wings are so broken they can't clamp around her body in this state. At least not without endangering the rest of the teeth. Is there a way to reinforce them? Have you had this problem, and how can it be fixed in a visually acceptable way?

Pony Corral / Flutter ribbons
« on: February 01, 2015, 08:02:43 AM »
I'm drawing fan art and I can't find accurate references for the colour of the flutter ponies' tail ribbons. Could anybody please tell me what colours Rosedust's, Morning Glory's, Peach Blossom's and Lily's ribbons are?

Customs / Does anyone have experience with resin?
« on: July 28, 2014, 12:45:30 AM »
For a long time I've wanted to try and combine my sculpting with accents of resin to make it look like water. Now I'm dead set on making a pond, because my miniature garden won't feel complete without it.
Thankfully I've found a swedish site that has resin - ICE with two components and the ready-mixed Magic-Glos. So which one do I get? ICE is expensive, but seems to be the traditional medium. Magic-Glos cures under a UV-light/sunlight. The thing is I don't know how reliable it is curing on my window sill, and the lamp is out of the question seeing as it only has a small compartment for curing jewellery.

Has anyone on here tried either of the two?

Pony Corral / Might throw my first ever pony away
« on: July 16, 2014, 08:11:29 AM »
Hey'all, I'd just want to vent a bit. Ask for support, I suppose. You see, I have this Sunburst who has been with me for as long as I remember (my mom says he's the first pony she bought me) and while I think he's gorgeous, well... he has cancer. Something bad. A dark spot between his nostril, plastered all over his muzzle, and big dark spot all over his body with light rims.

I think it's only gotten worse since I decided to clean him a couple of years ago. I know he's been with me in the bathtub many, many times, and upon opening him I found that the plastic inside was sticky, or grainy, or wet, or somesuch. So I scrubbed and boiled him and thought It'd stop the spreading, but I swear he didn't have that head/body mismatch before. His head is still light yellow but his body is... tawny. Mustard. :(

I have many precious memories of this pony. He was really ugly to begin with; I always remember him having that muzzle spot. But it has come to a point where I don't feel happy to see him on the shelf anymore. I'm afraid whatever he as is contagious, or that I'll have to watch him get even worse (if that's a possibility). So I think it's time to let him go. I just... I just don't know if I can bring myself to just... throw him away.

Customs / Cusom playsets? Tips, ideas and pictures please!
« on: July 16, 2014, 08:01:22 AM »
I have these mangy G2 playsets that used to be mine before I gave them to my siblings who are now teenagers. Let me tell you, the two darlings did not play as nice with it as I did!

I'm contemplating on customizing them (the rainbow forest and royal ballroom) so that my G2 may have somewhere to live. I can't bring myself to throw them away, but I know I'll never find replacements for all the plastic accessories like the forest's tree-house railing and the castle's gate. Do you have any experience with broken playsets? How would you deal with such a restoration project?

I'd love to make things out of Sculpey but that would need to bake. It would also be nice if I could find things made out of plastic that actually fits in the scenery, like the Sylvannian family fountain (except it is too small). Any ideas?

Wanted! / Looking to buy G2 playsets - or trade for G1 playsets
« on: May 20, 2014, 12:52:36 AM »
I'm looking to complete my favourite childhood playsets. The Royal Castle Ballroom and Magic Rainbow Forest Playset, which I gave away to my younger siblings once upon a time because I thought I wouldn't want them anymore. I'm much more gentle than the little hooligans so needless to say the sets where not in mint condition when they were done with them. :) Pieces are missing and decals peeled off, so I'm looking for other sets as nice as possible, but I'm interested in parts too. Oh, and if you have the Royal Castle, I might just wanna take a peek at that too.

Name your price or trade in your G2 playsets for my G1 playsets:

Crimp 'n' Curl Hair Salon
Spoiler
Nearly complete, great condition. Comes in its original Swedish bought box with lots of accessories. Stay tuned for images!

Dream Castle
Spoiler

This castle has its flaws. Its hinges are broken so that it cannot be fully put together, but I'm still rather fond of it as a potential pony display piece. One of the tower roofs has a piece of its bottom broken off and the drawbridge string has clearly been not-so-gracefully replaced.

Show Stable 1
Spoiler

My first Show Stable is in okay condition. It's just missing its doors and weather vane. No accessories.

Show Stable 2
Spoiler

The decals on this one look nice, but the one on the door with the hangers has seen better days. It has a spot of what may be dried glue and what seems to be a glued on vintage Bamse bookmark. Please note that the weather vane has gone missing and is not included. Also, this set is missing its accessories.

Pony Corral / About G2 Silver Swirl's 'do - variant?
« on: May 16, 2014, 04:44:52 AM »
I've seen G1 collectors who go coco for "factory curls". But what about G2 hair? I have a Silver Swirl (bought in Sweden) With crazy curly hair. She came like that right of the card. It's not like the locks all over the place, but they're pretty tight and makes the mane stand up. Whenever I google this pony I see photos of a straight haired unicorn (which looks absolutely beautiful). My question is, why? Where did you get your Silver Swirl and what hairdo does she have?

Pony Corral / I wanna see your G4 design-a-pony:ies
« on: May 14, 2014, 11:33:47 AM »
Have any of you guys actually customized one? I would have loved to paint a Rarity one into my persona, but as far as I know there where only ever RD, Fluttershy and Luna made, right?

Anyway, I would love to see what you've made of them! :)

Off Topic / Help, I'm off to Japan!
« on: July 18, 2012, 10:26:03 AM »
I and mah boi have been saving for a trip to Japan, and even though we have the funds now I can't honestly say I feel ready to go just yet. I mean, where do I start? We went to Greece last year, but other than that we don't have much travelling experience.
I don't even know what kind of hotel I want to go to. Sure, spending a week in a secluded traditional hotel with beautiful nature and hotsprings sounds nice, but I want to feel the pulse of Tokyo (even if the thought terrifies me).

I have some vague ideas of what I want to do and see - Shibuya crossing, Hachiko, buy toys, go to Nintendo store (if I can find one), sing karaoke, visit an arcade hall, go to Nara park...
But I certainly could use some advice. :whoa:
Have you been to Japan? What do you find worth seeing? Is it easy to get around and how do you communicate with the people?  :)
