Princess Amber/Starburst Variant, please help me!
« on: December 08, 2021, 01:12:08 AM »
Hello to all collector friends!
I have a question about a Princess Amber / Starburst variant. I found it in a flea market here in Italy. The body is darker, it looks like a mustard color, the medallion is silver while the hair looks a warmer lilac. Tinsels look no different from the common version. And last thing: under the left foreleg PAT PENDING has been removed.
I had a look on My Little Wiki but nothing. Could it be a still unknown variant? or a German variant? or maybe a factory error?
Please help me, I'm so eager to know what it is! XD

Maybe a picture can be helpful.

The pat pending thing may be significant...I'm not sure from the photo if the colour darkening is a batch difference that's discoloured further or if it's her original colour. I know some sets do have weirdly different body tone options with no real explanation. But I'm not sure on this one.

Thanks for your answers.
Initially I also thought that the color was a consequence of a discoloration. But looking carefully at the pony I saw that the color is uniform, there are no lighter spots and also the portion of plastic between the two rows of hair is darker.

I am unsure why she is so discoloured, but the lack of a PAT PEND stamp is significant. What the lack of a PAT PEND stamp, shows is that she is a LATER or second release. This could indicate she was intended for German release.

Do you have any history on this pony? Where did you get her? etc :)

Thanks for sharing the link, that’s a very cool web site!

I found her at a flea market in Italy. The seller told me that the previous owner had bought the pony in Italy and already at the time she was a darker variant called "mustard", but it is unknown to everyone :-( .
My guess is that it is a factory error or something that maybe shortly after was withdrawn from the market, but this is really difficult to prove. In any case, I paid 20 euros for her, here in Italy it's a fair price for a Princess pony.

My first thought when I looked at the pics was she's sunburned, but if it's that, it wouldn't be all uniform, and between the plugs as well makes me now wonder otherwise and the pat pend not being there just intrigues me more.
I'm going to have to check out pinkkittywinks' link later but my brain isn't in retain lots of information mode.

Thank you for that information, it is useful to know a little about her history and I think 20Euros is a fair price for her as she is missing the PAT PEND stamp.

There is still a lot we don't know about the history and distribution of ponies. I have seen MIB Italy release Princesses and wondered what their hoof stamp was.
