Where do you find pony bags in Goodwill?
« on: February 28, 2012, 04:10:00 PM »
Every time I go to my local Goodwill they don't even have a section I could look for ponies in. They have a toy section, but all the items are brand new sealed toys made by Goodwill itself.

I have heard of people finding pony assortments in bags. Where would I look for such a thing?

And what have you found in your goodwill? G1? G2? G3?

Always in the bins in the toy section. I've never heard of a goodwill making their own toys, that's weird... Then again I don't go into goodwill as much as I do St. Vincent's. I've found one G1 and a whole lot of G3s.

I find them in toys and in other places around the Goodwill. It's weird and random for me sometimes they keep them behind the counter at the register.

I've found G1, G2, G3, G3.5, Playsets, even a G4 mint in box

The Goodwills in my area do three things:

1.  Sell each pony loose (priced separately)
2.  Sell ponies in a bag with other ponies and toys (priced as a bundle)
3.  Are either found in the toy asile (all goodwills) or in front near the register (only ceratin goodwills)
Also, sometimes larger pony playsets can be found near the furniture (ceratin goodwills).

*These three apply to all generations of MLP.

I've never heard of Goodwill making their own toys, but that's kind of a cool idea! Does yours have a recycling center? Mine does, and that would be a really cool thing to do with old plastics.

Mine is more likely to sell them loose than in bags, but when they do, they're usually on the shelves with the other toys or in bins. The best way to find things at thrift stores is to keep coming back, so don't give up!

The only place I've found pony bags is at Value Village. Mostly I end up pillaging the loose toy bins at my local economy shops. It takes a lot of return trips  before I'll find anything though, so keep on checking back!

the Goodwill closest to me rarely has toys, but it does have a section for new goods.
These are the same kind of things you can find in like a 'dollar and up' store: cheap things like wooden back scratchers, knock-off disney stuff, animal toys, etc.

I know that the Goodwill here is run by a different company now; I think the stores are set up almost like a franchise these days, at least out here on the west coast!

It really depends on where you live.  The Goodwills in Middle Tennessee usually put all the ponies in bins or on tables near the front where you fill your own grab bag for $3 (most will also sell anything from those bins for $0.50 a piece if you don't find enough for a whole bag).  Some will occasionally put ponies back in the toy section priced separately at $1 each.  That's where the plush and playsets usually end up too.  I don't recall seeing bags of toys at the Kentucky or Illinois Goodwills I've been to, and I know they don't do the fill your own bag thing at those.  I don't get a chance to go to those very often but I think I've seen a pony or two priced individually in the toy section when I have been there.

My goodwill does the same thing, mostly "their" toys. The are MIP toys that are super cheap looking. For toys that have been bought in bulk like say and Elmo figurine. I used to find ponies all the time in my area, but no anymore. :( Especially not goodwill.

However I have a friend who works for goodwill and she says the get ponies in regularly and then they ship them off to be auctioned.

Yeah I was gonna say, if you find ponies at all it's because some employee is not sorting properly. As I understand it, all pony stuff they find is supposed to get shipped to distribution centers and sold in lots on shopgoodwill.com. They do not, however, do this at goodwill OUTLETS where they do not sort at all. My goodwills only have stuffed animals and occasionally a few toys chucked in with housewares, never bags or even a dedicated aisle. I don't even bother going there.

Value Village does have bags, as well as Onceuponachild although their prices are much higher. I was sorely disappointed by my St. Vincent's. The toys were just chucked on shelves loose and totally chaotic, no small toys at all. :(

If I find ponies at my Goodwill they have a price written on them in Sharpie.  For awhile there someone was pricing them right on their faces.  :enraged:

I have only found G1s there once. I find G3s often but they are baity. Even if the pony wasn't bait before it ended up at Goodwill... it would be after they price it!

Salvation Army is a bust now. Sadly, all small plastic toys that are donated go straight to plastic recycling.

That's odd b/c my "Goodwill" stores (there are 2 nearby) both have HUGE signs saying "we do not accept toys as donations" and do not have ANY toys at all (even brand new or MIB ones) in the store.  The one clerk said it was b/c of the lead scare about some older toys.  This in in NY, on Long Island.

All my other thrift stores have toys, and have ponies from time to time.  Mostly G3s, but both myself and Diamond have scored G1s on occation.
My G3 grail is LS Pinkie Pie MIB.  If you have her for sale or trade, I WILL pay.
