Cleaning Advice- Inside Hooves?
« on: February 28, 2020, 12:00:59 PM »
I’m cleaning up a Moondancer I bought for a custom, and she’s got a good amount of debris hanging around hard to reach places. I’m sure I could scrub them out if I could reach, but the pose makes it difficult to reach with Q-tips or wipes on a stick. Any advice?

I would maybe recommend filling her up with soapy water and letting her sit a little while to soften and break up the debris. What I usually do to help with cleaning ponies whose poses make it difficult to reach is taking a Q-tip and bending it into a shape to match the curvature of the leg, and then using a pair of needle-nose pliers to hold onto it instead of trying to hold it with your hand. It extends your reach and it's easier to get in the crevices when you aren't worrying about trying to fit your fingers in with the Q-tip >u< You could also try stuffing a cotton ball in there and twisting it around with the pliers to clean stuff out if the Q-tip thing doesn't work.

I hope that helps some!

If you needed to scrub, clean mascara brushes are good

Oh those are some good ideas! I’ve got some eyelash brushes I can try out, I’ll do that and a good soap soak.

I’ve used needle nose pliers with paper towels in the past, in addition to a toothbrush if the plastic is pliable enough. I’ve seen pipe cleaners recommended a lot.

Baby bottle brushes are useful for small hard to reach areas, the kind that have a small end for cleaning the nipples.  They can usually be found at the dollar store, and some are very bendy!

If it helps, I not only 100% understood what you meant, but just assumed that was a common term for it I didn't know!  I'm just constantly willing to accept "yeah, that's probably something I just didn't know yet"

I've used cheap paintbrushes to clean out ponies before.

I use pipe cleaners. I fold them a couple times for sturdiness and they are bendable so they wok great.
