Pony Corral / Re: Who's your fave? G3 2005-07 Valentines Ponies

As a Feb baby I always despised Valentine's Day as a kid, because it turned all the shops pink and I hated pink when I was little xD.

I don't have strong feelings on any of these, though. It's that same recycled colour scheme throughout. I genuinely don't know which is which without checking and those heart blisters are not easy to store. I also have a feeling these, like all the seasonal G3, were US store exclusives, so getting hold of them in the UK was a nightmare. I have some grievances -.-.

I like some of the accessories though. The ruffle is cute.

I know.  >_<

Snowflake.  When I think winter, I think icy blues and whites. Not generic pink.

Always and Forever.  I love her bow and arrow symbol. May and Might are cute too though.

Captain N: The Game Master comes to mind. It makes me feel cozy and brings me back to a happier time in my childhood.

Looks like Starshine. You can see her face on the bottom right corner of the box

I was excited for these until I learned that they are probably rehashed characters with an 80s vibe to them..? Starshine, Moonstone and Firefly apparently?

This was posted on MLPTP, credit to MustBeJewel.
I hope it's okay to share it here while we wait for clear images to become mainstream in the next few days:

Still happy to see that Basic Fun managed to clear up its financial restructuring and continues with MLP!

In fairness, that's what Basic Fun has been doing from the get-go. Making repro MLPs is their primary purpose. It's what they were contracted for. Though I'd very much like to see them move on, and tackle other sets. Like So-softs, Big Brothers, Sparkle Ponies, Glow n Shows, Tales etc.

The Celestial Ponies happened because we got together and politely begged. I'm not sure what happened on the corporate level, to get approval?

I saw those arts on Twitter, of course with newgens saying "we were robbed". I agree they're cute as a vague creature design but absolutely grotesque for a horse. The legs are horsey, but the bodies are still doggish, and that's before getting into whatever's going on with the head. In the other arts you can see it's like, 30% head, 35% neck, 30% leg, 5% body. Nose doesn't even get a decimal. But I also see a lot of newgens just hate *horses* in general. Not just bronies who think MLPs are "fat ugly hippos" but instead, they think they should look like apple-headed dogs, they have to have GIANT cat ears, ginormous front-facing eyes, non-existent noses... They have to look like cats or dogs! AKA the only animals on planet earth...

This art, G5, and even Wild Manes have something I can't stand that make it all NOT horsey for me: the LIPS!!!!!!! Not just the "muzzle". People bring up the size of the nose, like obviously, but no one talks about the upper lip? Horses have a large prehensile upper lip that's very important to them, for grazing, feeling, touching, grooming, whatever. G1, G2, and G3 understand this, even G3.5 gets the proportions right. They just *look* horsey because of the bigger lip. G5, the upper lip is extremely small, where the CHIN is bigger than the nose. And with making the head round, the jaw ends up looking wrong too (leads to the "chad chin" problem). The bottom Applejack demonstrates this well. The "upper lip" has enough room to fit the nostrils and nothing else. I don't even think she has teeth! (Edit: Wild Manes doesn't look that bad on second look, I was going off of memory before, but I think it could be better)

I've been getting into horses more and more, and the more I study horses (casually..... disclaimer: still a noob), the more G4 onward frustrates me. I have a soft spot for G4's "superdeformed" look because it is admittedly stylish, but VERY of its time, and I hate how it's become the standard. It's not MLP unless they're brachycephalic bobbleheads.

"Real Horse Patterns" is something people try to incorporate in MLP too without much research... I know they're fantasy animals and you can "do whatever", but this comes off as "horses can have splotches, right? Give it more splotches!", but maybe that's my cynicism showing after seeing... that thing. IMO Applejack looks less like an appaloosa or pinto or whatever and more like a hairless rat. (G4 Pipsqueak and G5 Violette Rainbow are nice MLP pintos.)

Also for the art, this might be for the G5 movie before it was G5. A Russian brony group (or something) leaked a bunch of Hasbro's stuff, emails, everything, back in 2017, revealing an entire work-in-progress season of FiM, and a G4 reboot for G5. Everyone hated the concept of a G4 reboot, so Hasbro went back to the drawing board to give us original designs (earth pony Twilight would become Sunny Starscout, for example). Or maybe that was coincidental? Anyway, after G5's release, the artists have come forward with more concepts confirming the proposed G4 reboot. Current story of "G6" is a G4 reboot unrelated to these arts, "Camp Cutie Mark" people are calling it. CCM is still ongoing unless Hasbro saw the hate That got too. :lookround:

Wordy response from me as per usual but I wanted to give my reason why I don't think any of these are "horsey". :)

:iconclap: I agree with most of this.

The only off-putting things about Wild Manes for me, is that the eyes are still a little too close. And the way the legs attach to the body. But they're still pretty cute and horsey. I'd pick up a couple, if they made non articulated toys.

Eww.  These look awful. Why do they look like they're suffering from mange? It's really sucky how often I hafta complain about ugly ponies from 3.5 onwards. I hope these aren't real.

I baked a big quiche-type tart with spinach and feta cheese for a boardgame night with frieds, it was really good! First time trying out the recipe but it was easy enough and makes a lot, a full oven tray. The crust was made with a combo of wheat and rye flour and a couple of grated potatoes, very tasty even though I had to use soft margarine instead of butter because I forgot to buy it... Plenty of leftovers too. The recipe said it would yield 40 servings, which means those servings would have to be TINY... like bite-size pieces. I cut it into 24 pieces and each of us had like 3 at least. :D

I love quiche

Isn't G3 Rainbow Dash the one in the cartoons that says "dah-ling" all the time? I like those cartoons, they're so goofy and fun :P

Yup, she is.
