Annual Holiday Art Swap!

We've traded drawings, bookmarks, ATCs, and postcards. This year, it's time for something new - ORNAMENTS!

Information:

This year, there will be two categories:

2D: This category is for a more simple ornament. Your design may be painted, drawn, or made digitally. Any materials are acceptable; be as creative as you want! If you choose to make your ornament on paper, then it must be done on sturdy paper and laminated or otherwise reinforced for durability.

3D: This category is for those who want to get a little craftier! You may paint onto an ornament, sculpt, sew, knit, and create a unique ornament for your partner. Use your imagination and showcase your skills!

Rules:

* Each person will make an ornament for only one member.
* Put your screen name somewhere on the ornament so your partner knows who you are.
* Please mail on time. If you run into troubles or delays, PM this account ASAP.
* Please post a brag in the Arts and Crafts forum once you have received your package.
* The swap is secret; we won't reveal anything until the packages are received and ask that you do the same.
* There can be no drop-outs once the partners have been assigned. If you have any doubts about meeting the requirements, please don't join.
* Feedback will be left by each swapper for their partner once the swap is completed.

Other considerations:

* Please package your ornament carefully. This is a fun swap and we don't want to have any broken or bent artwork. Ornaments in the 2D category may be shipped in an envelope, but please reinforce your ornament with cardboard or something similarly sturdy to protect them from bending. For fragile 3D ornaments, please wrap carefully and ship in a box with enough padding to protect your creation.

* If you choose to include extras in your swap box, please keep them under $5. Extras are NOT compulsory.

Requirements to join:

* You have been an Arena member for 3 months and have at least 100 posts.
* Swappers must have 3 trading or selling references.
* Must be willing to mail internationally. If you can't, please do not sign up.

I would actually prefer standing ornament, but a tree ornament is fine too :D Especially if it's possible to put on a window. We have three showcases in our living room so a standing decoration would fit very well there. ^^

Pony or pony mixed with something else?
Just a pony is fine, 3D ornaments can get very arduous even with only pony to make.

How similar colors should it have?
I'm not picky, as long as the pony recognizable I'm pleased. ^^

Glitter?
I love glitter!

Favorite winter past time?
Sleeping wrapped in a soft, soft blanket and preferably a dog next to me. Other than that I love hot chocolate and watching movies/TV series/anime while sipping it.

Prefer tree ornaments or standing ornaments?
Standing ornaments intrigue me as they are news to me! I normally hang skulls and creepy stuff on my Christmas tree so a standing ornament sounds neat. A handing ornament is 100% ok too cause I can hang it from my pony shelf as well. (or maybe get a pony tree! mwa ha ha ha)

Do we want to keep all these ornaments as ponies or is unpony ok too?
I would prefer a pony ornament (seeming how its a MLParena swap) if multiple ornaments are sent I am totally cool with both, but since it's an MLP swap I would like MLP worked into it somehow.

How do you feel if the colors aren't exactly the same as the character's?
Totally ok with me, I know it happens!

Anyone really apposed to glitter before I finish buying the supplies for this?
I honestly would prefer very little or no glitter here please. My hubby came very close to banning the 4th wave blindbags that had glitter on them. :/ "Fairy herpes" as my hubby calls it, gets all over everything and everywhere. I don't mind it myself but he doesn't like it. If you want to do want to use glitter it'll be ok but it'll probably be something that will have to sit on a shelf and not be touched so it doesn't shed. I don't want the lack of glitter to ruin anyone's ideas however if it can be avoided or downsized it would be best

What's your favourite winter pastime?
Probably drinking tea, I drink coffee every day but with winter being a little cooler down here I can actually make a hot cup of tea in the afternoon and be fine. If I try drinking hot tea during any other time of the year its too hot and I feel gross. (South Georgia only has Hot, blazing hot, unusually cold for how hot it was yesterday, and hot again) so the cool time is the best to drink tea. :3

I was thinking about asking this question too!

I'm fine with pony, but am 100% open to non-pony as well. A cute handcrafted Aristocats or Pocahontas ornament would be 110% welcomed lol. Or chihuahua or pug or any of my other likes! Or a pony with Marie from aristocats or something of a mix would be fun too!

If it's a shade or two off, that would be OK, but otherwise colors might be something I want to see as close to the character as possible.

I think it would be nice to have some ponyness to it.

How do you feel if the colors aren't exactly the same as the character's?

I guess sometimes it's hard to find the exact colours, so as close as possible is fine. ;)

On the topic of making more than one ornament. I'd prefer it if you really focused on making the one ornament the best that you can. Quality over quantity, and all that. But if you find that you have time and want to make something small as an extra, that would be ok. Just as long as your main focus is the primary ornament. :)

Normally, I'd be fine with either. But my current home doesn't have a mantle or other area to display standing trinkets, so I'd prefer a tree ornament.

I'd prefer mine to be pony, but I also like cardinals. They're my favorite bird and I have accumulated quite a few cardinal decorations over the years.

I can't help but think I might be one of the few who think frozen is over rated and had great potential but seemed like they poured too many shallow ideas into it..... I also really disliked that snowman. They need to have a version of it where he has been edited out like the Star Wars where som fan edited out jar jar.
I don't HATE frozen but it was a let down for me. I think the characters are pretty and it could have been really good but it just king of fell short for me

I love sleeping in the living room by the Christmas tree or making some hot chocolate after a long cold day at work. I also love gift giving and the preparation for gift giving (planning, buying, wrapping, and placing it all under the tree).

Oh, and I love Frozen. Its an appropriate wrapping paper for this time of year too.

It's slow going for me too, my ornament is still missing the most important parts, i.e. ponies, haha! I quite like how the base/background came out though. Well, I still have six days until the international shipping date, I'm planning to get most of the work done tomorrow and over the weekend.

Not only did rosierjay make me two sweet ornaments with little kissy magnets in their noses, but she's the one who made me that sweet ornament of Abbey after she passed away! So a big DOUBLE thank-you!!! She also sent my hot chocolate, tea, chocolate, and a cute pair of socks! It's like all of my holiday swaps in one box! XD And I actually still haven't read Howl's Moving Castle and was in need of a book to read, so I am going to start it tonight!!! :D

Looks like her hair got a little squished on top, but otherwise made it ok! You may be able to poke and fluff her a bit to get it looking more like crystal Rarity. I'm so glad you like it! I plan to post her in the custom boards on Sunday for some feedback. :)

I also got my swap, though it was missing a card. Who has Cool Breeze on their address labels (what neat address labels!)? I love the ball ornament with a painted princess Twilight! It has a bunch of pretty ribbons inside the clear ball! I'll post a brag latter, but right now I'm headed off to my parents for Christmas festivities this weekend.

Oh, I'd already forgot about that by the time it arrived and was genuinely surprised, haha! :lol: It's good that you checked with Zenna though so I got them before Christmas, otherwise I would've needed to pick them up at the PO in January. I have some other packages waiting for me there, some purchases etc. I made and thought they would arrive before I left Turku.

A bauble with your favourite ponies and 3D accents is what I wanted to do but for a while I was afraid I would have to settle on something else; all the ornaments I found in stores were either the wrong size (too small) or the wrong colour (red and gold, no cold colours available!), or covered in glitter or something, whereas I needed a smooth surface to work on. The 3D parts are made with Apoxie Sculpt. :) I just got myself a fresh batch and it was a pleasure to work with! I first sketched the ponies and gessoed the shapes to give the clay a nice surface to stick on, even though Apoxie adheres quite well to smooth surfaces as well. It should be pretty durable!

Should I keep changing them up every year or is this a theme you'd like to see stick around a while? :) Never too soon to prepare for next year!

Maybe I missed it, but did someone say who's made this? (As I said in my previous message; it was missing a card. Who has Cool Breeze on their address labels (what neat address labels!)?)

So sorry! Haven't been on the site for awhile. Im shocked the card wasn't in there. I have no idea where it went then. I made one and could've sworn put it in there. I've looked around the house and it's no where...oh well. Sorry. But I'm glad she arrived to you :)

Post by: ZennaBug on January 05, 2015, 09:34:06 PM: I never posted my ornament for Whippycorn. It's acrylics painted on linen and hand-stitched. The background paints are shimmery and I put a bit of fabric "snow" glitter on the wet paint. :) Some of the snowflakes have the glitter mixed in too.

It's been waaaay to long since I had any Rolos in my life, and I have to admit- I gorged! Then I had a few with some toasted almonds (cause I'm healthy, yo) and YUM YUM YUM!

The pinkie pie is my first pop figure... now I crave more! They are cute!

And the art is so great! I love the winter pony- Powder g1 if I'm correct? Neato! Thanks again!
