Pony Corral / Re: What were your pony misconceptions?
« on: August 02, 2018, 06:04:44 AM »
I didn't know that the first mail-order babies were all supposed to be Baby Ember.  I considered only the one with the cassette tape and the star to be Baby Ember.  Since the other three to my mind had no name, I named them myself:  the blue was Elm Blossom, the purple was Cherrystar, and the pink was Emerald (because I wanted a name LIKE "Ember" because I didn't have the Ember pony, but it couldn't actually BE "Ember" because Ember was, in my mind, someone else!)

It's silly because she's not green AT ALL :D

I'm so excited to be headed for the extravaganza in Quebec this weekend!  I am bringing ponies to sell - G1, G3 and G4 - but I would like a price check on selling some of my exclusives!

SDCC 2012 "Muffins" styling-size pony IN ORIGINAL BOX.  Box has been opened and pony has been displayed.  Pony now back in box with original box liner and plastic.  If she came with any accessories, those are not in the box.

MLP Fair North America 2008 Exclusive - Pink pony - loose

MLP Fair Europe 2008 Exclusive - White pony with yellow hair - loose

Junko Mizuno pony - loose and does not have her hood or any other accessories

Art Pony - Black, blue hair - loose, no box or accessories

SDCC 2010 "Graffiti" pony - loose, no box or accessories

Thanks!  Hope to see lots of pony people in Quebec!

I'm scared of the *sun.*  So, the opposite :)

(Seriously the sun makes me itch and hurts my eyes.)

Pony Corral / Re: Hasbro Makes it Hard to be an adult MLP Collector
« on: October 29, 2013, 04:32:15 AM »
For the record:  Transformers fans had to fight quite a bit for many years to get Hasbro to recognize that there were adult fans of the brand.  Transformers also have the benefit of having Takara in Japan creating super-intricate molds (like the Masterpieces) for Japanese audiences.  It is a lot easier and more cost effective for Hasbro US to import something that Japan has already designed and created than to go to the work of designing and creating it themselves.  They'd have to feel the money is worth it.

MLP just doesn't have the Japanese presence or market that Transformers has enjoyed for so long.

Classics Transformers are G1 characters with modern poseability and more show-accurate looks.  I don't know what a Classics Glory, for example, would look like.  Ponies were very rarely poseable.  Maybe dressed in highly detailed pony wear?  That's about the only thing I can think that would "upgrade" a G1 Pony.  And I'd totally shell out for a G1-accurate Glory dressed in "In the Designer Collection" or "City Kids."

My biggest concern is that when Hasbro did the reissue G1 ponies the hair quality and plastic quality was significantly lower than a G1 original.  People are not going to buy remakes unless, like Transformers, they represent a substantial IMPROVEMENT over the original version.

I got Lemon Drop and the Show Stable for Christmas.  Santa brought me Blue Belle and Cotton Candy the next morning.

I played with them so much my dad ordered me Butterscotch, Minty, Blossom and Snuzzle from a catalogue.  I went into town in his truck and we picked them up from the Sears delivery counter (which was in a building that was, no kidding, half hardware store, and half funeral home.)

Then we went to my grandma's and I took the ponies out of their delivery wrapping.

My mom got me Peachy and the Pretty Parlor on a trip into the city.

When I was a kid I pretended that Baby Fifi was too young to have grown her horn yet.  I didn't have any Newborns or Newborn Twins who were unicorns, so it "fit."

...No way to explain Baby Milky Way though.....

I've seen a lot of crosses on clothing lately, which strikes me as strange.  Wondering if we're going to see Stars of David on everything next year?

I don't usually wear skirts but I have a few that I typically wear with leggings underneath if they are shorter than knee-length.  With leggings I don't care that the skirt is on the shorter side.  Leggings solve so many problems for me.  I'm 100% covered and don't have to worry about people seeing up my skirt if I bend over or what have you.

I would totally wear this.  TO CONS!!!

And Waterfire.

("Fire water" was the alcohol the old time fur traders used to trade to the Natives for animal pelts.)

I say pony wear.  She is not that common that I would feel good about customizing her.

I paid $130 for my Ice Crystal.  He has one little discoloured spot under his mane, but no brush.  I am not sure how cancer would change his value.

Where's the Tangerine Sunset love?  She's such a pretty colour.

wait, what?

OFFICIAL?

Okay, then allow me to say "come on guys, really?"

I expected these to have been made by a fan with not a lot of costuming experience.

Pony Corral / Re: How often do you add to your pony collection?
« on: September 06, 2013, 08:13:13 AM »
It kind of varies.  Right now, I haven't bought any ponies since TFCon, but when you get 18 ponies at the Fair and another 3 at TFCon....my pony money is gone for a while.   On average, I'd say it levels out to about 2 or 3 ponies/month this year, but that's with 2/3 of them being bought in a one month period.

Last year, I think I only got 4 ponies all year.

Y'know what?  Yes, I find the fake-face masks reminiscent of early 80s halloween masks, but if those fans built those masks themselves, and had fun doing it, and wanted to wear them to a con, I'm not going to fault them for that.  I don't think it's the best way of going about an Equestria Girls cosplay, but if you're a dude with a beard under the mask, I can see why a false face might be easier than trying to make your own face into a passable rendition of a n EG's.
