I had one too:)  I never knew what she was called, but she was a bath time staple

I couldn't get enough of changing her makeup.  Loved "painting" her lips, and that heart on her cheek was pretty cool too!

Ah......memory lane.....

These look like A LOT of fun!

I would have loved them if they had been around when I was a kid.  I was graduating high school when these were in stores :lookround:

I would buy more, if I could FIND them.  My TRUs have had only the first 4 dolls ever since they released.  I've already got those 4......I'm not gonna buy them again.....stock something else for a change.  I'm not sure who's to blame here, but I lean torwards the stores for not giving the line a true chance.  Maybe if they brought in something NEW they'd sell them.

It's a shame too, because the newer dolls (that I've only seen in ONE store) are really neat looking.  I'm sure the stores would sell a few, if they had them.  When I finally found them, I had the urge to buy them all because I was afraid I'd never see them again!  I couldn't afford 8+ dolls so I had to leave some behind

As for the fashions, I think they made a mistake trying to make these girl "fashion" dolls.  They are too small to really enjoy dressing them up, IMO.  I think letting the gimmicks speak for themselves would have been a good route.  Most of my dolls are nakey, and they are fine with it LOL.

I LOVE Ursa and Roary-  but I think Ursa Minor is my favorite-  how can anyone resist a BABY winged polar bear ?

I love that these toys look like a blend of two other toy lines I love- MLP and JEM

Baby winged polar bear?

Ahhhhh!  I LOVE polar bears!  That bear is the most adorable thing I've ever seen!  I looked it up on the website Galactica posted, and it's name is Ursa, which only makes me love it MOAR!  I had a thing for the stars when I was a kid, and took astronomy in high school (we had our own planetarium.  Is that normal?)  I'm still captivated by them sometimes.

Anyway.  Ursa = Awesome:)

I've seen some from other collector's that were still in the baggies.  Some of them do have hollow generic bodies and some have Jem bodies (though the Jem bodies are slightly different).  The really funny ones are the ones that have a Jem girl body and a Rio head or a Rob head (Maxie's boyfriend). lol
I never saw these in the store as a child.  I do have about 10 or so of the Superstar dolls loose.  Even if they look like a Jem doll there are little signs that something is different about them.  The make up looks different, the hair can be a little shabbier, a Shana one can have discolored torso (greenish), the markings on the back of the head are missing, the markings on the back of the body are missing (or the location is), their bodies are a tiny bit shorter, and they tend to have different hand knobs that are similar to the ones that came with a regular Raya doll.  I have several of the Super Star Kimbers and they all look angry with the bolder makeup and I even have one Kimber with different colored hair (her hair is "sugarberry" when normal but I have one that is very red colored instead of the sugarberry color), oh and her hair reminds me of a parrot.  I like them.  They are different lol.

The superstar dolls usually have heads of Rio, Rob (Maxie doll), Maxie, Kimber, Aja, Shana, Pizzazz, Stormer, and Roxy.  The boy heads on the hollow bodies look really horrible lol.

Notice in the picture that Kimber is wearing the socks that came with the Michael Jackson doll. :)
Thanks for the info. Also, I was looking online, and someone had one of the rio/rob superstars dolls, and the neck joint was a baby torso for a barbie.

I GOTTA see that.  Pictures?

Has there been any news of a Hans doll from Mattel, or any of the others *with* actual clothes and *without* gimmicks? I'm hoping there might be a 4-pack or something that includes Hans... and real clothes...
....

Dolls that don't sing and dance and light up, wearing actual clothes?  Wow, you're not asking for much are you? ;)

Thank you once again, Bow Tie!  You are like my internet superhero XD  I cry "help" and you come running:)

I have always loved the Disney villians, especially the evil queen (SO pretty) I may have to cave and grab these two.  I hope it doesn't spiral out of control from there, but who am I kidding?  It will :sigh:

The Dollhouse / Re: Could anyone ID and PC this old Mattel doll?
« on: November 11, 2013, 12:49:53 PM »
I got to talking to people at work about my doll collection, and one of the "older" women, had told me she had a doll that "grew boobs."  I had never heard of this before.  Then I stumbled across a My Scene Barbie on Ebay that had this same gimmick.  I knew the woman didn't have a My Scene (she would have been in her 30's, then) so she must have had this one.

I guess the reason I bring this up is to ask why, if the Skipper version was such a controversial doll, and bad idea (?) WHY would they do it again for the My Scene line? :wonder:
