Hello everyone,
There are many ponies out there. So much so that they have double names/multiple versions of the same pony. I have been renaming the latter in my collection. French cotton candy is Candy floss, italian blossom is Petals, spanish whizzer is Whirlwind and usa peachy is Peaches.
Have you renamed any ponies? Maybe from when you were younger?
I would love to see more names :)
All generations are welcome.

Of my five childhood ponies, I only knew two names, Baby Firefly, my first pony, and Baby Racer. Funnily enough, I always thought he was a fakie because he was so different from my other MLP.
I called Raincurl Rainbow and Baby Sunribbon, Baby Rainbow
Rosedust was Roses.
I was a creative kid with everything but names, it seems.

I always knew the names of my childhood ponies, but there were some that we found at car boot sales that weren't sold here originally, and before I knew who they were, we had to find names for them. Nothing very imaginative, though. German skydancer was Seagull, Baby Leaper was baby frog, and pink dreams was Kitty *lol*.
I also named my white club newborn 'Beauty' when I got her in 1989. But everyone was meant to name her :)
I always used - and still use - UK names, which I guess some people consider 'renaming'. Though not me xD.
My Dad still calls Cherry Treats 'Stink Bomb'.

I knew the names to my ponies, but I don't think my Romperooni had a name (the one that came with Rainbow Flash... she's just "baby pony"), so I named her Tiger Lily. :) We had tiger lilies in our yard and I loved them, so I thought it was a good fit LOL

I've renamed one pony, that I can remember and it was baby Northstar. As a child I loved Rescue at Midnight Castle and Firefly was my favorite. Baby Northstar had the right colours, but the symbol was wrong which made three year old me very confused. I called her Silver anyway. I got seven other ponies as a child, but I don't remember if I renamed them or not.

I renamed HQG1C pony Kitty Love to Kittycorner. :)

I didn't know baby Yoyo's name when I was younger. I called her baby Whizzy and made her Whizzer's baby.

OOH BOY do I!!!
I have a whole glossary on renamed Ponies, whether it's due to duplicate names, names like Mummy this or Baby that, or in the case of Butterscotch & Mascots, giving them names to tell them apart (same with 40 Winks, Snow Sugar, & Swimmer - Napper's, Tootsie's, & Splashes's twins respectively). Butter Kiss's twin is already called Waffle so...
I try to pick similar enough names to the originals so the relationship is still there, but otherwise I wing it.

I called my G2 Ivy "Thistle" before I found her proper name when I started seriously collecting :)
In my current collection, the only ponies that I don't refer to by their official names are some G4s where I preferred alternate names to what the toyline went with (Pinprick instead of Royal Pin, Vinyl not DJ, Bon Bon rather than Sweetie Drops... though idk if these "count", since all of those names have been used in official sources) or characters that didn't have official names to begin with (like the GoH changeling, who I've dubbed "Carapace".. Hmm, I must come up with a name for my Activity Club Baby one day, too..).

All my childhood ponies were Pony Bride and the Sweet Celebrations family so I lucked out in that they didn't have official names anyway XP I named Pony Bride Dove because of the doves on her mark. I named Mommy Sweet Celebrations Balloons, Daddy Sweet Celebrations was named Presents at first but I decided that was dumb and renamed him Mint a few years later because of his green mane and tail and I named the baby Confetti of course not knowing there was already a pony named Confetti.

Sweet Pop was Popsicle
Salty got renamed Tugboat
I didn't know Sunnybunch's name att, so I called her Cassidy.
Blushie got called Bouquet before I found out who she was, and stayed that way.
Hula Hula is Kalea.

Up Up and Away has been renamed to Pinkie Pie in my collection (as I’ve repainted her green balloons to be light blue) I never enjoyed her original name! I’ve also renamed all my Sweetsteps Ballerina ponies as I found their original names very unmemorable.

Dancing Butterflies is Dances/Dancing with Butterflies :)
Love pkw xxx

I've never purposely renamed any of my ponies, but I had a few where I learned I had been calling them by the wrong name when I was a kid and only found out their real names as an adult when looking at pony sites on the internet!
I always though Posey Rose was Posey Rosey.
I thought Dainty Dahlia was pronounced as Dainty Delilah. (Hey, there, Dainty Delilah!)
Shoreline was in my childhood collection, but I must have forgotten her name as I called her Sunshine (or something to do with suns....makes sense because her symbols are suns!) and only realized what her real name was when I was much older!
And I always thought the blue Ember I had was Lucky! I had no idea there was a blue (or purple) Ember and it was only about a decade ago when I was doing some MLP research that I discovered this. I had even drawn a purple horseshoe on her little haunches because I was confused as to why they forgot to put it on my Lucky!
-
My sister and I had the G1 Bright Bouquet family as kids. We renamed Daddy BB "Blueheart". He was the only boy pony we had, so he had multiple wives!
-
I think the only pony I renamed was "blue Ember". The pamphlet I got called her Ember but she clearly was not. I called her Blueberry and she was my favorite pony for a very long time.
-
I didn't intentionally but Baby Honululu became 'Baby Hula-Lula-Loo', presumably due to my unfamiliarity with Hawaii (I'm Australian lol) ^.^
-
I had one of those fake g4 blind bag cake topper things and I thought is was an authentic blind bag pony at the time. the packaging said it was rarity when clearly it was not because it was a pegusus with a blue mane and a flower cutie mark. I ended up calling it lucket.

I always called Baby Beachball "Baby Island Magic" because the one I bought at the store did not have a name on the card. On the back it said "Island Magic" so I assumed that must be her name. I was so surprised many years later when I found out that was not her name. She will always be "Baby Island Magic" to me though.

I've always thought of So Soft Twilight as 'Candlelight,' as it irritates me that Hasbro recycled names within the same generation. Her symbol is so obvious too; I could never understand why they'd gone with Twilight again. If I owned any of the other G1s with duplicate names, I'd probably rename them too.
I never renamed any of my childhood G2s, as I was familiar with their characters from the magazines & PC game.

I also call her Candlelight. Her symbol matches better as you said :)

The pony that kicked off my current MLP collection was a G3 Royalette found in a charity shop, and when I bought a complete Royalette I named the charity shop one Rescuelette.

I knew Baby Firefly, Racer and Rosedust's name but not Raincurl or Sunribbon. I think I called Raincurl simply Rainbow and Sunribbon Baby Rainbow
