I have the same problem. Except our Athena wakes me up at 5am sharp. 4:45 if she is really hungry. She starts with meowing, then moves on to 'kitty bombing' the bed. Then she lays on my chest. And as a last resort she will come nose to nose with my face and stare at me, then lay on my face. She dosent bother my boyfriend because he sleeps more heavily and is harder to wake up. According to our vet, you either have to train them or they train you.

She won.

But I can go right back to sleep after feeding her.

We do have an auto feeder that lasts three days. It goes off with a message that we record ourselves. When we are constantly using that she wont bug me. Her feeder is in the room next to ours so she can hear it when she is on our bed. The only problem we have with it is ants in the summer.

These new dolls freak me out.

Im not a vet, but our family foaled dozens of babies and i have never heard of a horse c-section. Even for the mares of high value, it would come down to the mares life or the foals. Because of a horse's large size, major surgerys are hard to recover from. Large animals are hard to restrain and can sometimes panic when restrained causing further damage to themselves.  Thats why leg breaks are often fatal.
Also hoses cant lay down for significant amount of times. Its bad for their organs.

Awwww! I love the baby horsies! We used to raise them and had 1-5 babies every year. They are so much fun.
Dont worry too much about her. We always did our best to be there when they foaled (getting up several times a night when they were waxing) in case something went wrong, but we missed it nearly half the time. Including one or two that were born in the pasture during the day. It can happen really fast. Nature takes over, and they know what they are doing.
Although I must say that mares tend to foal alot during odd weather. Ex. Snowstorms, heavy fog, and rain. Its odd. Like they can sense the weather changing.

I have one but I dont think I paid nearly that much for her. I got her maybe two years ago. She has a hair cut but is otherwise in pretty good shape. I think I paid around $300ish for her.
