Hi ponies!
Does anybody happen to have any pictures of G3s on store shelves? I would love to see them and take a trip down memory lane! I feel like the Arena would be the best place to ask! Or, if you have G1 or G2 store pictures feel free to share them too! We can all take a look and reminisce!
Thanks!! Dazzlebright

Oh, I love that photo! I also saw it awhile ago on my Instagram and saved it. It really takes me back to going to Toys R Us and just seeing an entire aisle (or almost an entire aisle!) dedicated to all things MLP. I would love to see more pics like this, but I don't know how many people were taking pictures of toy aisles, especially since smart phones weren't a thing back then!

That was the picture I immediately thought of as well :) I forget who took it originally, but it's from the UK in around 1985-6, and it's so beautiful because it's like, omg, that's my childhood right there O.o. Lookit all those UK packages :inlove: Early G1 packaging is the best.
(The smaller boxed things on the end of the 2nd row are snowglobes in case anyone isn't sure).
I have this really hazy memory of being a three or four year old picking out Cherries Jubilee with parental help, and I'm sure the store I got her from must have looked a little bit like that one :)
Going back to G3, I don't think I ever took any photos of store shelves when G3 were out and that's a sad thing to reflect on. I've taken ones since G4 but not G3. I was pretty slow to the smartphone which may be a part of why.
I often wish it was possible to print out memories, or at least post images of them online. I can visualise LOTS of pony store displays, from those when I was a kid, to G2 in France, to G3 in places but...no pics. :(

Another G1 photo as I can’t find any other. I also wish I could print out memories. I remember as a kid picking out some G3 Ponyvilles and G3.5s.

I'm pretty sure that one's also from the UK but probably from the year before the last one. The cards look right but the giveaway is the Gymkhana box on the right - that was only in the UK and the package is the original 1984 package design, whereas the other photo has the 1985 design packaging.
Yes this is how much of a geek I am.
Much as I love seeing UK store images, are there actually none from US stores?
Edit: It looks like the holographic rulers on the end of the bay (far right). I had one of those as a kid <3.
On the subject of memories, one of my most vivid is the wall of flutter ponies in Carrefour when I went to pick out Tropical Breeze. It probably wasn't a real wall of them - I was only 5 so not very tall - but they had such small boxes and it was like there were just endless columns of flutter ponies on shelves staring down at me. I wish I had a photograph of it.

I wasn't actually a big ponykid during G3, but I do remember the "Build a Pony" display at Disney World!
Someone on the Disboards forum got a very nice picture of the display including the top with the balloon:

These G1 pics are soooo good. It's funny, I barely remember seeing them on shelves - mostly just unwrapping them on birthdays and holidays haha. Although I do have a distinct memory of going to Toys R Us with my grandparents and picking out some Petites, which I think were lining the displays at the time.
Aside from my routine mall Target visits in Sydney during G3 I also remember a HUGE G3 display at the Toys R Us in Times Square in the mid-2000s. I wonder if there any any photos of that era, since the TRU is now gone?

In fact! Having said that! I dug through my photos and found a couple from the NYC TRU from a visit with friends in 2006 - they found it suuuper hilarious that I was in the pony aisle and papped me from all angles hahaha. It was around holiday time which I think is why the shelves look much barer than usual. Maybe only days away from Christmas. Not my best portraits ever but you can see some G3 on shelves! To be 18 again - ugh, actually, no thank you.

You would think that because I worked at Walmart 2003-2009 and regularly used my co-workers and the store for MLPTP photo hunt tasks that I would have pics of the toy aisles. Alas, I do not. Anything that I may have had is long lost on my old laptop that got a virus and had to be factory reset. I can show you the four-foot-long sign that I scored from the toys department manager, though. She saved signage and displays for me for years until someone got mad because she wouldn't let them have one that was already promised to me. After that, they made a rule that displays had to be auctioned off for donations to CMN. Thankfully, G3 was on the decline by that time.

I was big into G3, but I had no idea about this. I looked into it a bit, and found this page (http://mustbejewel.com/buildapony.html) with more pics.

Also saw a flickr album that had more pics of it as well (https://www.flickr.com/photos/maryannmattox/3784336072/in/photostream/) (along with a "random baby" for some reason??)

Great pictures everyone.

I like those pictures too some I havent seen. They look fantastic. :)

Oh I love those pictures! They make me happy to see!
-
I've found one of mine! No idea how to upload the photo, I am so out of date. Which websites are you using for that?
-
I really wish I'd taken pics of the G3 aisles when they were in their heyday! There were so many ponies!
And I swear they would just show up randomly. No Toy Fair announcement for a lot of ponies just, boom, they were suddenly on shelves.
-
I seem to remember they often showed up first in NZ.

bump!
is it too late to reply?

i do also like that year, since i got my first ponies from that G3 year in my 4th birthday!
i really like those pictures of the core 7 era; it also reminds me of my childhood, but i didn't had core 7 toys besides a newborn cuties sweetie belle and some pre-core 7 ponies with mlp's 25th anniversary. it really gives me nostalgia... i would have liked more pony releases on the core 7 that AREN'T them, like, maybe more minty and some of the ponies on the best friends line? (strawberry swirl, royal bouquet).... or maybe new characters?
