Best way to display sealed ponies?
« on: February 18, 2014, 12:14:52 PM »
I'm new to toy collecting and was wondering what is the best way to display sealed ponies? More specifically the ones that have the little hole on the top. I know i've seen people use tacks to hang them but i'm so afraid of damaging them! Is there a certain way to do this? Should i just put the tack in alittle bit and let it rest on the metal or push it all the way in and let it hang by the plastic?

Also any advice for upkeep, any special way to dust them, etc.

Thank you!

Hmmm . . . I'd say you can use tacks/push pins as long as you don't push them into the cardboard. I don't actually have any MIB ponies (I'd be too tempted to open them!), but I think tacks would be okay. :)

I use the 3M clear hooks. They have worked well for me, without damaging the cards or my shelves. :)

Yep I also use 3M stuff to hang my ponies ;) I think they're the best thing for ease and low-damage.

what i do  is use the  tack    through the hole alrady i  use it becuase its the simplest way to   hang the playfull   size ponys
i dont piece the cardboard. i  jsut use the hole    and  i  stick the tack into the wall first    then  i  hang the   pony on it,

They are mostly designed to hang on store pegs anyway so for G3 and G4 then hanging them from a pin should be fine. Sure eventually the weight will damage the peg hole but thats going to take a very long time. For G1 the cardboard is why I dont hang them the same way; again its tough and designed to hang on pegs but its not as sturdy as G3/G4 packaging, there is more weight in the package and often the ponies are only held in by a bubble with 30 year old glue. I dont think the weight on the card is worth the risk. For them I simply sit them on shelves instead. :) Boxes of any kind of course sit on shelves too.

And as for keeping dust off; a duster :P Its just cardboard and plastic as long as you wipe them down often enough nothing is going to need any more work than that. Also try and move or adjust them occasionally it helps prevent any dust or dirt building up and it also moves the pony in the packet and the pin against the peg hook which is all good in preventing any long term damage.

I used to use 3M and another brand Perma but I had ridiculous troubles with things falling off my walls. A heavy MIB pony would stay but a light backcard would drop every single time I hung it. So I use a mixture of adhesive hooks on my walls and thumbtacks into wooden doors and furniture. I don't use push pins, only metal thumb tacks, because they couldn't handle being forced into the wood and kept breaking. I personally think it's more secure to hang on the metal of the tack with the head holding it down gently, don't want anything sliding off the plastic of a pushpin.

All of my MOC G1 have little bit of fishing line tied around them to help support the bubble, because I'm paranoid but have nowhere else to display them so they gotta hang there. (Within reach of my dog, who thank goodness takes no interest in them!)

I used to hang mine with tacks too which was fine but I'm a little paranoid about any damages, I remember someone who stored there MOC collection in small clear plastic containers, I plan on doing that once Iv downsized a little more. :)
