What's going on with this Baby Moondancer?
« on: March 05, 2012, 09:36:21 AM »
I got Moondancer and her baby from Ebay a few months ago, and they arrived in about the condition I expected from the photos - they both have a little glitter loss, and I need to give them a bit of a bath to make them properly white again, but otherwise they're lovely.

Baby Moondancer, though...

Their heads are both factory sealed, but the baby's is squishy. Really squishy - it feels almost like dog toy plastic. Also, one of her hooves is in the air when she stands.

So, two questions I guess:
One - what's up with her head, and is it a problem (ie will it spread to her body or anything else)?
Two - should I break the seal of her neck to fill her with water (I've heard that will fix the pose problem so she can stand properly)?

Some are soft some are still hard, just depends if the plasticizer has leaked out or not. If she's super slimy then that's a whole 'nother ball of wax.
I'd say break the one open and give her the opportunity to stand properly.

One of her hooves is always in the air when she stands, that is what the pose is supposed to be like. :)

I don't know about the squishiness, though. Possibly just a different batch of plastic from the body?  I've had a few Big Brothers with extremely squishy hooves.

Oh, alright! She's the only one I've got in her pose, so I thought something was wrong.

She's not leaking plasticiser (then she'd be sticky, right?) and her body's normal.

(that amount of force on her body does almost nothing, same with my other G1s')

i have 5 and they are all like that. I wouldnt worry.  her leg is supposed to be up and they are the squishiest ponies i own! ^__^  I think her plastic may just be thinner than others. I have one that had gotten chewed by a mouse or hamster and it took nothing for it to break through to the inside.

If the plastic is leaking it would most likely be sticky from the inside, but she's a squishy pony anyway. An easy way to tell leaking plastic is if the tail or mane is super oily.

That's really good to know! Her mane and tail are soft, but a tiny bit on the dry side - so I think she's safe, and just a normal baby Moondancer :) Thank you all!
