Can I just say, that if all of the Beddy Bye Eye Babies looked like Baby Ember in LadyPinwheel's post, I would collect them by the pound???? Those eyes look so sweet and gentle, not like the buggy-out eyes we ended up getting.

Totally agree! The prototype looked so cute!! I wonder what happened in the production that they came out so wrong.

I do wonder whybthe celestial ponies were scrapped at design stage, too. That thread was really interesting reading, although it struck me that the baby sea ponies and most of the babies without bbe were shown in the pose they would be sold in in the UK.

The comic had her in it! Before she changed to the one that was released.

Anyone's guess why they never saw a production run, but I'd put my money down on too high of a unit cost - you've got the twirly celestial antenna bits and either some kind of unique plastic or a dye job / paint step for the whole body, both of which would be exclusive to this set at a time Hasbro was winding down the brand in North America.  Or potentially the prototypes of the marbling effect didn't get the stamp of approval.  We'll probably never know.

Or they couldn't get the color swirls to stay looking nice for any length of time if they were using regrind...

Cannot even deal with how gorgeous some of those prototype ponies in the pamphlets are  . I get so devastated they don't exist, I don't even know how you would have explained to a young child who loved MLP, 'sorry you can't have that pony it wasn't actually made' after they'd seen them in the booklet!!! Love this thread though and seeing all the pictures people have of prototypes!

They are even nicer in person!  The swirls and variances she got in the paint are amazing.

I love these! I have a pamphlet with the Cookery pegasus and still wish she'd been made that way. The Celestial ponies would've been perfect for my space pony hoard! *sobs*

The comics are often like that. You get Baby Mischief in purple like the prototype, and Singing Pocket as a unicorn, and a bunch of others. Kinda gives away where they got their artistic inspiration from .

I love the choice of de-fluttered flutters too - they have an otherworldly look that I love but I hate the wings and fixings for some unknown reason.  Anyway, these are fantastic!! Thanks for sharing them.
