Baby Sweet Celebrations and Baby Apple Delight, as I have all four (extremely baity) parents but no children yet
The rest of the merry go round set as well as I finally got my hands on my grail, Flower Bouquet (two of her actually), and she's pretty lonely as the only merry go round pony in my collection

Customs / Flexible when cured
« on: July 31, 2018, 08:48:04 AM »
I'm looking for a craft material to use for pony wear, besides cloth. Something that holds its shape when cured but is still flexible and bendable, sorta like polly pocket clothes or Tempest Shadow's removable armor. Basically I need something sculptable that I can still easily remove from and put back on a pony once its fully set.
Does anyone know of something commercially avalible like that?

Customs / "ALL ABOUT" Symbol Removal
« on: July 26, 2018, 07:49:01 AM »
Acetone does nothing to the 'all about's ds murals. I can remove the eyes and the nds cutie mark with no problem, but the murals resist my attempts. Does anyone know how to remove that?

Pony Corral / North American Exlusives?
« on: July 26, 2018, 05:28:50 AM »
Does anyone have a list of G1 ponies sold in the us/north america that were not sold in Europe or the uk? I'd like to eventually trade some of my G1s for european G2s, since G2s are so hard to find in the us, so I'd like to know which us ponies are rarer in europe.

Pony Corral / Re: Non mint/restored common G1s

I was more or less already planning to give alt rehairs to the common ponies that needed new hair anyway, so great minds think alike
I wonder if there's such a thing as an alternate colored cutie mark? Several of my commons have extremely faded cutie marks, perhaps repainting them in with new colors could add a little extra flair.
Of course if I did that and sold them I would make extremely clear to potential buyers that the symbols were repainted and not factory, and mark the pony as a semi custom somewhere.

I'm not terribly concerned with selling them for a lot of money, as I almost exclusively buy in lots that come out to less than $4 a pony, usually as low as $2 a pony. So just breaking even on the cost of aquiring the pony + hair if needed is perfectly acceptable to me.

Pony Corral / Non mint/restored common G1s

And what to do with all of them.
I've been on a bit of a pony shopping spree lately and have ended up with a lot of okay/fair to near bait condition common G1s: Peachy, Moondancer, Firefly, ect. The problem is I dont know what to do with them all. I only want to keep one or two of each pony for my personal collection, but I'm worried that okay condition common ponies wont sell for much or at all, and might just be baited if they do sell. Especially if they're ones I've restored (most of what I've aquired needs symbol touch ups and a few need rehairing).
I'm worried about the fate of these girls, but I'm running out of room in my makeshift pony workspace for all of them. What should I do with them?

Pony Corral / Re: How to deflock easily? Best methods, advice??

Hot water and a fingernair/something to scrape with to remove most of the flocking itself. Depending on the condition of the glue, that might be all you need.
If the glue is tougher and sticks around after the flocking is gone, pure acetone on cotton balls and hard scrubbing (be very careful to avoid symbols as the acetone will remove those as well). Wash with warm soapy water any time you take a break just to ensure the acetone is all washed off.
For the glue still over symbols use 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and the same method as with the acetone. Make sure to do both in a well ventilated area.

Pony Corral / Re: Extremely Frizzy/Matted Hair Fix?
« on: June 28, 2018, 06:02:12 AM »
That would be my beachball with frizzy hair  ;)
I've found generous conditioner and a straightner on low heat can work wonders, and I've yet to see any damage to the color changing.
The non color changing defrizzes much easier than the color changing, so I suggest separating out the white from the other and focusing on it if you can. I've yet to defrizz mine completely, the ends are still quite frizzy but the main body of the hair is much much improved.

Customs / G3 Bait Hair Removal
« on: June 25, 2018, 05:18:21 PM »
G3 heads have a lot of glue inside them. So much glue that my usual method of bait prep hair removal (digging around with hemostats and pulling out chunks) usually does not work. I have broken a pair of hemostats trying to remove G3 hair.
So, does anyone have tricks for removing the hair roots/getting through the glue? I've tried boiling water to little success, and steel tools for carving clay with slightly more but still not consistent success.

Hmm, laminate the paper? Not everyone has a personal laminator but... I do so   :P
I'm definitely not going to rehair Powder at this point, so no need to worry about her fate.

Her hair looks like some other ponies I have who I know are supposed to have white hair. Like I said, these ponies are all older than I am so I'm having to piece together second and third hand information on ponies that are over 30 years old. That's why I asked here instead of ploughing ahead with a rehair.
I would have posted pictures earlier but I only got my makeshift photo booth set up this morning.

I've seen some pictures where her hair looks white?? But it is hard to tell, since most pictures were taken in the last decade or so, after the white would have mostly faded anyway. These ponies are all older than I am, so I never got to see them in their prime.

I'm not a rich collector, and all but a rare few of my ponies have come to me from 'bait lots' in extremely poor condition. I personally quite like rehairs, and sometimes even prefer 'alternate rehairs' to 100% original ponies. That being said I would never sacrifice a mint, excellent, or even very good condition pony just for a rehair.
The trouble with Powder is that her hair is right on the line of what I usually consider needing a rehair. It's not unfixably frizzy (or even frizzy at all), which would normally put a pony in the 'keep the hair' category for me, but it is faded and translucent and very dry feeling even after conditioner and overall makes Powder look to be worse condition than she actually is.

At this point, I'm leaning more towards keeping the original hair. I don't think it's quite worthy of a rehair, even if I would like a properly white haired Powder in my collection. I'm sure a buzz cut Powder will come to me eventually.

The majority of my collection has required some serious restoration and I absolutely intend to mark every pony on the inside of the neck seam, and if I sell any I would make very clear in the listing what has been restored on the pony.

I have a second-hand Powder who's hair is neither in terrible contion nor great condition. The white has faded to a translucent-y yellowish color, and is quite thin and dry feeling.
I like my collection to look nice, and I think she would look much better with new white hair. But I know a lot of collectors hate rehairs and prefer everything to be original.
I'm not really planning on selling Powder any time soon, but I also dont want to contribute to the 'destruction' of all-original G1s. If I'm only keeping her for my own collection, is it okay to rehair her?
