Pretty Poppy, 2021 (https://flic.kr/p/2kXpMWC) by Haawan (https://www.flickr.com/photos/haawan/), on Flickr
This custom started out as a personal challenge. The Rainbow Game and other showcase threads made me realise I'd never done a red pony before. I came pretty close last year with my swap pony for Roogna (https://flic.kr/p/2jUA9Jy), but a deep burgundy was the best I could produce at that time. :P So I wanted to try again, this time making proper plans around a red scheme. The colour is still rather dark but at least it's undoubtedly red this time. Since there was no need to stick to a monochrome theme, I gave her dark brown points and green eyes. Her symbols came out a bit too dark but I didn't feel like adding a white outline and couldn't think of another way to make them pop. They look fine in daylight but are difficult to photograph. Next time around I'll have to try something bolder. :D
Oh yeah, and her hair is wild. Note to self, don't mix different types of synthetic hair... The green is polypropylene, the rest is nylon. I wanted her to have loose curls so I didn't boil the hair, simply wrapped it when it was wet. Which would be fine with nylon, but the poly doesn't hold the curl at all...
Thanks for looking! Questions, comments, constructive criticism welcome

She's absolutely beautiful! I love her freckles. The symbol is a bit dark but it still looks great!

She's stunning! I really like the overall darkness with just the freckles and eyes popping out -- there's something very elegant about it. I also the way the poppies come up out of the leg gradient.

She's still gorgeous Griffin xxx

Thank you :grouphug:

I like the combination of a realistic-style symbol with such deep and elegant colors. Your detailed paintwork always looks so good!
Ah yes, the curse of the multiple types of hair on the same pony...I understand that feeling. Hers looks well enough that I wouldn't have noticed if you didn't point it out, I think.

Thanks, SunPony

She is perfect! :iconclap: Beautiful, rich colours! I love dark and warm colors. :inlove:
The poppy symbol is beautiful and it’s like straight from a botanical book. :wow: :read:
The green color in the hair is like a glimpse of the coming summer!

So so pretty! 😍 I love poppies and there really aren't many red ponies out there.

Wow, wonderful work on her!!! The rainbow thread has me realizing how many colors I haven't used either, oops!! But she's stunning, I love the choice of poppies, I feel like they're underutilized! I think that's a pop of green in her hair, right? I really like that little contrast, it's a great color to tie in with the eyes and the leaves of her symbol. Fab work!!! :cheer:

Thank you!
@Snapdragon: Yes a little pop of green! I love that colour so I couldn't resist adding it, although nylon would've been a better choice. I only had pale or lime green shades of nylon which were too bright for this colour scheme. There's also a subtle hint of red in her hair, originally I planned using a lot more but changed my mind when the paintwork was completed.

I love the colors on this pony, and the wild hair actually curled very nicely! I missed seeing your customs!
