I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right place but I'm wondering if its possible to dreadlock hair from hasbro dolls that came out the same time as G1 MLPs? I've got a Pizzazz doll that I really want to dread lock but I'm not really sure how to even start. I've got a bunch of MLP from the same era that have massive knots that I'm too scared to brush out because I'm hopeless at smoothing it out.
So my question is would it be possible to create dreadlocks that look even and intentional rather than just the matted lumps all my ponies seem to have? Has anyone else done dreads on a pony?
Every time I've done dreads on my own hair I've started out with thin braids and then teased them but I just don't see how that will work on such a small scale :/
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I don't think I've ever seen dreads on a pony before. With real hair, there are little hooks, which is how we can manage so many different styles, but nylon is all smooth. I would suggest rehairing a doll or pony with either real human hair or a premium synthetic that can be styled. Blonde, then you can dye it different colors.

Maybe the Perfume Puff hair and otherwise g3 and g4 could be good candidates.

At this point I don't really want to remove the hair. I might have a look around for one with a baity hair cut and try the brushed wool thing but even one with bad hair is worth quite a bit these days.
I might do some more research and see what I can uncover :)
Thanks for the help, worst comes to worst I know I can dye my own hair the fluorescent yellow green I need, and its getting time for a hair cut. It won't be the first time I've used my own hair lol

there was a customizer here - badjuju - that did really cool dreadlock ponies so short answer is yes you can do dreads on ponies with synthetic hair basically as a minature version of doing dread extensions for people

Omg I forgot all about her! Yes, she made dreads.

Yes, great memory! I was thinking of her too, but I could only remember the 'juju' part! I have also seen people emulate dreads using yarn, since on a pony head it looks more like braids or dreads, depending on the yarn texture! Might be worth looking into! :cheer:

Badjuju's dreadlock ponies look like (and feel like, I own one) they're done with Kanekalon hair, which is what we usually use for synthetic dreadlock extensions for humans as well (I used to wear them back in my teens, emily autumn style).
If you like the synthlock look, it's very easy to make. Rehair with kanekalon, tease a section, twist it, tease again, twist and set it with heat, like steam. there are lots of tutorials on youtube on how to make them.
If you'd rather have authentic loc looks, I would look into using wool, like alpaca or merino, and a very small crochet hook (0.5-1mm). Or wet felt them, although on such a small scale, that might get too stiff.
come to think of it, needle felting might work, too?

I came upon this thread when I was looking how to do dreadlocks for a custom I've been neglecting. Looks helpful! I even got the material from Michaels. Felting yarn.
