Away messages on ebay and etsy?
« on: July 05, 2014, 08:16:25 PM »
So like many people I am going to the pony fair. I have items for sale listed on ebay and etsy. How do I leave an away message for next weekend?

I don't know about Ebay, but on Etsy, you can put your shop on "vacation."  Just go under Your Shop> Shop Settings > Options> Vacation Mode. Your shop will be open, but the listings will be inactive, so no one can purchase anything.  You can add an announcement on that page too.

Thanks Mandarin  I had no idea for Etsy.

eBay I do  :) Just follow these instructions.

Quote
To turn on your Store vacation settings:
Click the Messages tab in My eBay.

Select the Change settings link on the top right side of the page.

In the Store vacation settings section, select Turn ON.

If you'd like to hide your fixed price listings and prevent buyers from making purchases from them while you're away, select Hide and block purchases from my fixed price listings.

If you'd like buyers to see a return date, select Display a return date, and enter a date in the box provided.

In the Message to display on your storefront section, edit the default text displayed in the textbox if you would like to customize it.

Click the Apply button.

I just wanted to note that if you don't have a store on ebay, there's no method to leave an away message.  If you don't want to sell anything during the time you are gone, you'd have to end all your listings in that case (I had to end all of mine for my trip.)  If you're just going to be gone over the weekend, keep in mind that ebay doesn't count Sat/Sun as part of the handling time, so you could just ship anything sold on Monday.

You could edit the descriptions to say you'd be away during that time, but that most likely won't stop someone from purchasing an item :/

this is true. I was away recently and since I dont have an ebay "shop" then I had to end all of my listings because I was away for a few weeks. If you have a shop then no worries since you can use the vacation setting. if you dont have a shop i wouldnt worry either if you are only away for the weekend :awake:
