@PrincessNikki : It's super cute, right? I was shocked that they were Piggies and kept staring at it for a good while trying to figure it out and reconcile my opposing feelings. I wonder whose photo it is, maybe someone on here? I'm very curious about that now.

@Khoufu : I would have liked Pony Bride and Bridal Beauty more if they weren't in that goofy pose. I think a Quackers or Posey pose would have been lovely (but the Posey pose is possibly my top favourite, so I'm a bit partial). Same goes for others who were in the Bride pose.

@northstar3184 : I haven't read Dickens () but I think the locked identities you mentioned are another factor in my general disinterest in those two specifically. Confetti and Satin 'n Lace, as Taffeta brought up too, are excused for me because I like them aside from the wedding themes that were attached to them, and they had more potential not to be bogged down by that one theme, especially without the accessories (Satin 'n Lace actually just makes me think of 80s Madonna or Cyndi Lauper or Blondie, not weddings).

I am really liking that deeper shade of red that you've chosen, and the white everywhere else really helps it to stand out. Very nice work, you should be proud.  :)

I collect only G1s, so I can only speak for those from my own experience and perspective. I don't exactly have that reaction. I always fix tail rust, but I don't spend time in a collector's mindset wondering how it could even happen, or being upset to any degree that it has happened. They're older toys, and they are toys, even though they have taken on identities as collectibles now. They were intended for children and intended for play, so it's no surprise that many have had exposure to elements that would cause problems that are often found after so much time has passed. Storage issues could also arise to cause these problems, but if ponies are being stored away for many years, exposure could come and go, and one that was perfect, say, 20+ years ago before going into a bin could come out with issues. I tend to be pretty understanding of issues and focus more on trying to fix them. Fewer people back then were seeing ponies as items to accrue value in a collector's market than as toys for play. It's just one of those things that you have to expect sometimes. I had plenty of other toys when I was little that I took into the bath (mainly toys of animals who live in water, like the Kenner Littlest Pet Shop orcas and dolphin), or that I took outside to play in the grass and the dirt, dry or wet (like a bunch of dinosaur toys). It's just part of play, and no one was seeing those toys as potential collector's items. There are, of course, those that have been unnecessarily damaged by careless handling, intended for play or not. But I think the most likely culprit of something like tail rust is exposure either from regular play or [unintended] insecure storage.

With that said, however, I do question Hasbro's decision to put metal pieces into the ponies in the first place. I'm sure they had fastening materials in the 80s and 90s made of hard plastic or acrylic or something that they could have used in place of metal. Toys or collectibles, I think metal, like that in ponies, in children's toys was just a bad call, but probably made on financial grounds of some sort. But, I think that's also another reaction mostly based on present knowledge and looking in hindsight.

So, it can be frustrating to see something like tail rust, but not all that surprising, I think.  :lookround:

Watching the Beirut episode of Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown twice today, because it's beautiful and one of my favourite things that I've ever seen, ever.

(On a lighter note, I'm so hungry now because of it. XD)

Ah, I love her so much! :D She was a huge want, I was so happy when I found her three years ago. At first I was bummed that she had a significant haircut, but after her spa day she turned out beautiful! That shorter mane really suits her. :D

PS: She does not really have a dandelion sprouting from her head. XD

I love that detail with the dandelion; it's quite charming. She looks very pretty!

My worst one would probably be the last Bow Tie I got. She has really bad pony cancer, ingrained dirt, discolouration, and mane and tail rust.

She's completely discoloured from blue to an off-white-grey-blue colour, its hideous. Her mane and tail are a dirty pale pink and are completely orange from rust at the roots. Her legs are covered in ingrained dirt and she has pony cancer under her stomach, between her legs and up her neck.

I bought her in a bundle of 12 ponies. I only payed £5 for all of them, but shes the only one in this condition. All the others she came with are near mint. It makes me wonder what happened to her, haha!

(I would attach a photo but I still haven't figured out how -.-)

:dropjaw:
Poor Bow Tie! I can't imagine what could have happened to her; it sounds like she may as well have been left in a ditch somewhere or something.

Bridal ponies are utterly unnecessary to me O.o. So Satin and Lace and Confetti get away with it - they're enough ponies on their own without all the accoutrements. Bridal Beauty and Pony Bride are just...nope.

Yup. XD

I've never been a huge fan of the 'Tootsie pose', but I think a lot of people like it and favour it. I only just recently got Cherries Jubilee, the only one I have in this pose, because I don't like it so much. It seems awkward somehow. :wonder:

I strongly strongly dislike that pose as well.

Me too  :)

Not sure if this has already been said, but I don't like the Sweetheart Sisters or any ponies in that pose...

Ah so it seems to be a bit more common than I thought, the dislike of the Tootsie pose.

I feel the same on the Sweetheart Sisters, too, and the Bride pose. They all seem like they aren't G1s. The Bride pose seems like some corruption of the Quackers pose, which I think would have been fine had they modified it without making it overly slender. The Sweetheart Sisters have so many pretty designs and colours and such, but I can't bring myself really to invest in having them because of the poses and overall design; they just don't appeal to me. Oh well! Plenty of others love them.  ^.^

My goodness, they all seem to need some therapy or something.

This also goes to show how important it is to revise and edit one's work, Hasbro. It's just seeming like laziness or something on their part, to an extent. It's quite comical, though!

As a kid I hated this pose. I had Snowflake and Cherries Jubilee and I wasn't always nice to them. They also got to be stand in boy ponies when I needed more than the three I had for a game or something. But when I was about 8 or 9 I decided to start writing stories about Magic Star and I actively chose to make Cherries Jubilee her best friend because I wanted to like the pony more. It worked. The pose is goofy, but now I don't mind it - though I think part of that was because I knew that here in the UK, Magic Star (with whom I was a bit obsessed at the time) was also in that pose.

The weird thing is that now to me that's normal for Magic Star. So my unpopular opinion is that I don't like Magic Star in the rearing pose. Also, I consider SS Magic Star and the other SS ponies the variants, even though they came out earlier than the movie ponies we had over here - because I grew up ignorant of SS ponies and they are the ones with the gimmick ;)

I like Skippety Doo and Truly in that pose but Magic Star in the rearing pose just looks wrong to me.

I'm still getting accustomed to the pose; I had a Shoreline not too long ago, with awfully frizzy hair that I managed to fix with conditioner, a low-heat flat iron, and 6 hours of labour and patience, but I ended up selling her because I wasn't too attached, and I was happy for someone else to enjoy the effort I put into turning her around. She lives in the Toronto area now.  ^.^
Cherries Jubilee was an accident; I was so stricken by how pretty she was that I kept her, so I'm learning not to mind the pose, but I'm still not there yet.  XD

It's funny, I feel like I've somehow seen Magic Star more in the Tootsie pose than rearing, but I prefer the rearing. I always picture deflocked or Brazilian first, though; I have to make more of a conscious effort to picture SS Magic Star, despite her being the wider release, I think.

I think that there should have been more rearing, and sitting, ponies, as well as non-flocked versions of SSs, on that note. Another for the opinion bank.  :joy:

Hmmm I was more into the animated series, especially the ones they acquired in addition to their original series, but I remember watching a lot of The Secret World of Alex Mack, Animorphs (while it lasted), and All That. All That was my favourite, but I used to get in trouble for watching because it was 'inappropriate'. I don't know how. I didn't really watch the channel past the age of 10, so my memories are vague.
