What is the problem with the arena?

If you look to the side, there are three side bars: Shoutbox, Navigation, and User Info. If you click on the "+" sign next to user info it will expand and next to Messages it will tell you how many messages you have stored in the system. Yikes! I have almost a thousand!

To give you an idea, the old site had a limit of 100 PMs. Any new ones bumped out the old ones.

I think we should bring this back. I think many people just don't realize how many they have.

I didn't realize I had that many. I just kept them like I do emails LOL

If you have PM notifications turned on, then you will have an email copy of each message.

There isn't a way to make a limit to PMs, I don't think.

Holy cow, I had more than I realized, too! I didn't actually need them anymore, so I emptied my stuff out. They really do pile up fast, don't they?

I think you are right, sadly. I only see options for limiting how many a member can send in an hour, not a limit to how many they can store. Just a board wide thing saying something like 4 billion can be stored.

But how many messages we have might not even be the problem.  We are just speculating.

I trimmed down all my PMs yesterday, I have 48 but they are all involving trades/swaps etc, I suppose if everyone trims their PMs and the board gets quicker again it's something?

I figure it couldn't hurt.  I mean who really needs thousands of incoming/outgoing messages?  Some people might but the majority probably realistically only need a hundred or two. ^^

Since it's 500 errors that means "there is something wrong with the server, but the server doesn't know the exact problem". Could be a number of things.

If it gave 503 errors it would mean there's too many people on the site and the server can't handle the load. Sarahlacewing also mentioned images being reduced--I don't think that's an issue either since we don't upload directly to the site, the only thing we DO upload are avatars, and I still don't see why avatars would cause a problem since there's a size limit on those. The posts shouldn't be a problem either, the forum is fairly "new" since the old was archived. Posts don't take up much server space at all.

No not a server doctor. I actually used to know some....Also depends on if it's a hardware or software problem. Not sure how to determine that. Mainly statistics. Is this board hosted on a dedicated server?

Anyway, over the last few days, I don't seem to be having as many problems.
