Hairing Question about Working on Custom G4: Maud Pie
« on: April 12, 2014, 12:05:41 AM »
With the G4 Easter ponies coming out, Lilly Blossom has been available again. With :muffin: Pony being a rare find (I have her but don't want to destroy her), I thought Lilly Blossom would be an acceptable bate for making a custom Maud Pie brushable. True, she is a bit more purple than Maud, but I think I can make it work (I hate actually painting a whole bate and prefer to use the natural base).

Now my next problem is what hair should I buy. I'm just feeling uncertain about shade. I think going a little dark would be good since Lilly Blossom is a bit darker skinned, but I'm not familiar with how purple hair looks in real life from the places I usually go. Does anyone have experience in buying KatSilk Nylon Purple 1 Doll Hair 809 from RestoreDoll, Purple 1 from DollyHair, or Mulberry Crush from DollyHair? Do any of these look like a good match for Maud? Or does someone have another suggestion for a good match?

I would be super appreciative for any advice!

Any advice for how to make her clothing would also be great! Perhaps there's a good pattern for G4 clothing out there?

To match that color I'd actually go with DH's Wisteria. If you wanted a bit darker maybe Amethyst if you wanted a brighter darker or Twilight if you wanted a duller darker?

Hmm... Yes, those do seem to look better. I'm leaning towards Amethyst now.

I think making the clothing molded out of apoxie clay would work really well!  But then again, sewn clothing would be cute too.  I don't have the manual dexterity to sew clothes that tiny though so I would probably end up sculpting LOL

The problem with that color is if she does not have enough or has an issue she might not be able to get more.

As to the clothing, it depends on which you feel more comfortable with, and if you want to take it on and off.  If you want to remove it then yeah you would need to sew, or use liquid stitch, which works well in small scales.

Order two then. I'll take what's left. ;)

Thanks for all the advice, everyone! I think I am going to try Purple 1 because I hear Mulberry Crush is a match for G4 Sweetie Bell (an okay match for Maud), and Purple 1 is a duskier version. I've never had trouble using a MLP hank to rehair a G4, so I think it will be alright. It was a decision I had to think a lot about! Amethyst would probably be a good match too, so it was hard to decide. I'll update the post when I see how it turns out.

I might try making clothing with liquid stitch first. Thanks for all the advice on that too!
