Title: Who was your very first Flutter Pony?
Post by: Leave a Whisper on April 23, 2019, 06:45:10 AM
Mine was Yum Yum. Which is weird because I didn't like her at first and had my heart set on Tropical Breeze or Wind Drifter. I was skeptical until she arrived and then fell in love with her.

Forget Me Not! I found her at a lot at my local Goodwill, which is the second G1 lot I ever found. I almost didn't buy her because she didn't have her wings, but I got her in the end :) My girl's hair just won't style, though. Whatever I try to do to curl her hair will work with other ponies, just not her... And her wing tabs have actually been cut off, so I don't think I can give her replacement wings.

Poor Forget-Me-Not. She's such a pretty pony too. Glad she's got a good home with you Safflower.

Forget Me Not was my first Flutter Pony I got on eBay.uk, she’s still in poor shape I need to remove her hair and put new hair in and try and remove the bits of her original wings.

Found a Forget-me-Not at my local indoor farmer's market when my friend was there to buy a hamster.
It's an interesting farmer's market.

Morning Glory! My sister got her for me when she went on a school exchange to France. This pony was, and is extra special to me because my sister and I did not get along well when we were little, and she was always making fun of me being so crazy about horses - real ones - and My Little Pony. Plus, I hadn't seen Flutter Ponies in stores here so it was an extra surprise.

Luckily, we finally bonded as adults and now share the passion for collecting our childhood toys - while I am collecting MLP (obviously!), she is collecting Monchhichi and Nyamys.  :)

Forget-Me-Not! Found her at the Kingsday (still Queensday back then) market when I was about 7. I had never seen a Flutter before, I didn't even know they were actually made. But even though she was missing her wings, I knew she had to be one. :D

Forget-me-not, Rose Dust and Honeysuckle!
I got all 3 of them together from eBay a while back :)

Tropical Breeze.

She was my only childhood flutter pony.
I bought her from Carrefour with my birthday money when I was five :) I had trouble choosing since the one I wanted (Wing Song) wasn't there, so Dad convinced me to buy Tropi.

He was right :D She's the best flutter.

Ah, my personal pocket-money purchases from WHSmith back in the 1980s...

Pink Honeysuckle, closely followed by pink/yellow Rosedust!
- Or was it the other way round?

I think it was a week between them; I would have gone on to lilac Forget-me-Not but didn't get to visit town for a long time - they then stopped selling them!

Subsequent flutters c/o ebay

Yum Yum!  Because I got the birthday set for my birthday the year it was
released. Honestly she wasn’t my favorite but she was part of the set, didn’t like
her coloring, odd because I’m all about color. I remember my BFF had Rosedust
and to avoid mix ups I didn’t have her. But oh how I wanted her cause roses are
one of my favorite flowers. I never found Morning Glory in the wild and that’s my favorite flower. Hopefully they get re issued.

It’s fun reading everyone’s stories.

Morning Glories are a beautiful flower. I love those rich shades of deep purple and blue. Could you imagine her with dark purple hair?

You have to wonder the logic behind Hasbro's colour coordination department.

"We have a mint green pony with neon yellow hair. What should we call her?"
"Morning Glory."

It's almost as bad as "Lets name this salmon paste coloured pony Bluebell and this yellow and shrimp paste coloured pony Snowdrop".

I feel they have problems with flowers >.>

Eek! Poor girl... Can you share a pic? I might be able to suggest some ideas for reconstructing

My first was Rosedust. I saw the movie and "The End Of Flutter Valley" in fall 2011, and Rosedust became my favorite pony. I sought her out on eBay, getting a cheap one with no wings and faded hair. I fashioned simple replacement wings for her from clear acetate. The first ones I tried were wonky-shaped and had green and red markings done with marker. The next ones were unmarked and closer to the show shape, and were my standard Flutter wings for years. I meant to adorn them all with glitter, but only ever got around to it with Rosedust's. I think I repinked her hair not too long after doing that set. Last year or the year before (I think) I switched to doing them from textured water bottles, to kinda-sorta approximate the texturing of the original wings.
I've also accessorized her with a red feather as per the cartoon. I've had to replace it a couple times.

As a kid I had two Lily:) no clue if the wings broke or my mom put them up so I wouldn’t break them and in turn lost them...she did hide gifts and forget them very often when I was a kid..hahaha

I remember Lily being a darker purple like a lavender flower. I find her a more red purple...not seen her the color I remember.

I agree Morning Glory with purple would be amazing. Lily could totally rock the morning glory hair

In a way, it makes sense that the body colors don't match the flowers; they wouldn't want the symbols to blend into the body.

I distinctively remember getting Honeysuckle for Christmas, but I am fairly sure I got all 3 of my childhood flutters the same Christmas. I think they maybe were given to me by different relatives (not sure) because I remember having all three at the same time but I don't remember a time where I  had just one without the others if that makes any sense. I have Rosedust, Honeysuckle and Lily from when I was a child and I just bought a Morning Glory a couple weeks ago.

Got two at the same time; Lily and Tropical Breeze. Two Lilies, actually.

During a Saver’s trip I found a WHOLE BUNCH of G1 ponies incl. SS Satin n’ Lace, Chief, Sugar Apple, Streaky, Sunspot...probably forgetting many more. They were a part of that.

That doesn't stop them from picking a hair colour that matches though...? Morning Glory could've had dark blue or purple hair.

Mine was Lily! No story behind it, I just saw her on eBay for a good price and thought she was cute :)

Asked my girlfriend who her first flutters were, and she says she got Rosedust, Morning Glory, Honeysuckle, Forget-Me-Not and Wind Drifter in a bundle from a car-boot sale when she was about five. She still has them! Wind Drifter (who she called Windmill) was her favourite of them, followed by Rosedust (who was the older sister of her all-time favourite pony Little Flitter).

All our flutters came to us wingless; we still have yet to see original flutter pony wings in real life!

A fair point. They seem to have been favoring hair of a similar color to the body with most of the first Flutter Pony set, for whatever reason. Rosedust and Forget-Me-Not are the exceptions.

Mine was rosedust... I found her in a charity shop for 50p when I was about twelve. She had awfully fuzzy hair and her wing tabs had been cut off, but I played with her nonetheless.

I do love flutters, I wish I could give mine some wings but there's nowhere to put them

I have an idea for trying to reconstruct the wing tabs, or at least functionally replace them. But I'd need to see a pic of the exact damage to be sure.

Her color scheme is gorgeous. Wouldn't be a bad alt hair idea for a bald one.

I actually got three together in a lot from eBay: Cloud Puff, Tropical Breeze and Peach Blossom. They were $1 for all three and are in great condition except for the absence of their wings. I could not believe it when no-one else bid especially as Cloud Puff is perfect with no regrind at all. I was so excited to get them as they were the first flutters I have ever held  :)

Got to admit though I was a little disappointed when I first saw the actual toy... no wings of course, those chubby cheeks... hm. Didnt like them right away but ive grown into loving them over the years <3

I had wanted morning glory since seeing her in the movie as a child so she was one of the first ponies i bought as an adult. Poor girl still needs new wings though.

Another I always wanted was the dark purple haired  Lily shown in the UK comics...I should be brave and do a rehair.

I always thought Lily was those colours too. I was so confused when we found one at a carboot sale and she was pink. Took a while to realise that's who it was...

@BubbleTea - you have good taste :D Tropi Breeze is best flutter.

My first was Rosedust. I was given her and Baby Blossom (and her rocker) by an older girl who lived opposite my grandpa and whom I used to play with when I was very little. I must have only been about four or five when I was given them.

She didn't have her wings (no surprise there) but as far as I was concerned they were just magic and when I pressed the button they still moved and allowed her to fly. But the best bit was her fantastic curly white(ish) 80s style afro. She still has that afro I've never touched it. You can imagine my fascination when I later got another Rosedust from a toy/train fair who had long pink hair.

All of the rest of my flutters came from various windfall's at toy/train fairs for about 50p each (I think I got all of them in about two months) apart from Pink Dreams who I got in one of the bags during the end of line sales in the mid-90s. Her wings would've survived if I hadn't been fascinated by the fact that they would go in and out of the slots.  :yikes:
