Weird Baby Liquorice Missing Symbol
« on: August 09, 2017, 06:38:40 AM »
I've had a lovely G1 Baby Liquorice (Licorice) come my way, She's in pretty good condition, however, she seems to be missing a symbol on her left side.

It's not like it's been rubbed out, it's like it never existed in the first place. Anybody ever seen this? Rather weird!

I just looked at yours compared to the photo I have of my sister's and it definitely does look that way.

Naynie's for comparison.

I can't tell if it has been removed or not or whether it was never there. It may be the photo but the rump looks a slightly different colour around that area but I imagine it would be hard (not to mention pointless) to remove a black symbol completely....

Do we know if she has the right markings on the other side??

Also, Liquorice (with the qu) is correct, namewise - that's how it's written on her card.

Thanks Taffeta!

I knew the (qu) was correct but I've seen folk spell it the other way, so was just covering  ^.^

Her colouring is perfect as far as I can tell (she looks a little dark in the pic due to bad lighting) and she does have the correct symbols on the other side.

I was thinking it's pointless to remove one black symbol too. Plus, you would think it would leave some streaky marks around her rump!

Looks like it has been either removed or it wasn't put on her rump.

A mother pony can be protective of her young just like dogs.

It's one of my twitches with UK pony naming when people do that. I feel like if we can manage to spell Colorswirl the way Hasbro intended it, it shouldn't be so hard for people to manage Liquorice the way Hasbro named her, irrespective of local spelling conventions :P But I digress...

Yeah, I would've thought so too. And it was only a slight nuance on the image so is probably the picture not the pony. It does look like Hasbro missed off a piece of liquorice when she was printed. Unless she got hungry and started eating herself :/

Seriously, though, I don't have a picture of the other side of Naynie's pony and it's in storage but it might be worth looking for images of her other side and comparing whether it is just one missing piece o whether it is an issue on both sides. I would guess she's a factory glitch at this point, but I haven't ever seen one like her before :/ and I can't see any other major differences. Some of the other liquorice symbols are a shade off centre with the colour spot but then Naynie's isn't exactly perfect in that area either.

Just compared her and she's perfect in every other way  :|

Would this affect her value either way?

That's ok, not so much worried about the value  ^.^ It is pretty neat! I love after all these years we cn still discover new odditys!

I have another.... Hong Kong Peachy (concave). Normal in every other way except her hearts are white rather than pink. And not faded white, more like a real 'Jenny' white

Missing or partially missing symbols may have a negative effect on a pony's value, but it'll depend on the buyer.  I've a Flurry that somehow got missed on one side but this seems quite odd unless each icon was stamped individually at the factory?  Can't imagine how else just one bit would get missed.

I got a Scribble (Dabble? The white one) that was missing her symbol. I bought her in a lot on ebay, so I didn't really know what her side looked like. When she arrived, there was a flower drawn on both sides instead of the symbol that should be there. I messaged the seller (I got a really good deal, I wasn't mad, but I was curious!) and she said she had gotten it in the mail that way- she got it new, and it didn't have a symbol. At all. She felt bad for it, so she put a symbol on her. She's one of my favorites in my collection because of that story- whether it is completely factual or not.
So it could happen!

I think Liquorice is pretty awesome the way she is, and as long as you are the sort of collector who doesn't mind, she'll always have a special story behind her.

Or one of the other ponies got hungry, ate her licorice.
Thanks so much to Calico_Star for her beautiful work on my Avatar!

That scribbles story seems plausible to me, considering that the UK club newborn we had over here sometimes gets symbols drawn on her and sometimes doesn't ;) Some kid probably did it, even if it wasn't the seller, and probably for that reason!

I personally like ponies with factory quirks. Nobody's perfect ;)
