So I got my very first perfume puff, but her hair is a mess.... I don't even know where to begin, or if it's saveable at this point

Poor girl ... how do you fix that hair? I'm terrified to try and brush it or wash it, it's dirty and seems like a big mass of cotton...

Here is some before pictures after cleaning her body and I just started brushing the hair a little:

Okay so I finished brushing the hair out... but I'm not so happy with the ends on it, and I'd like to get the mane to lay down... someone said I could iron the hair I think... Will ironing it get it to be a little less poofy and straighten out the frizziness at the tips of the hair a bit? I'm assuming it needs to be on the lowest heat setting? (I use a clothing iron usually on the nylon setting)

Here she is now:... I think she might have had a hair cut too?

*shrug*  Honestly, it looks about the way it's supposed to.  It's normal for these ponies to have poufy, cottony hair.  Just wash it out, and comb using a comb with moderately big teeth.

About a year ago I got a UK Daisy Sweet; her white hair was so dirty that it looked gray.  I just shampooed it normally, let it dry, then combed it a bit.  I don't think you'll change the factory hair texture unless you do something extreme.  But it's probably a good idea not to comb it until it's dry.

She looks like she'll clean up very well.  :)

Edit:  The forelocks of these ponies have a normal texture; they're not supposed to be poufy.  It looks like yours still has factory curl, so try not to get it wet unless it really needs to be washed.  Then don't comb it until it's completely dry to preserve the original curl.

Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

The hair looks like it will fall apart, and it's a matted up mess... isn't it supposed to just look like poofy hair? it's so hard to describe the disaster it is, but from other pictures I've seen of other people's perfume puffs mine looks terrible...

But I should be able to brush it carefully? I was afraid the hair would break apart and come out if I did, I'm not sure how sturdy those fibers are.

I need to take a photo of the Dainty Dahlia I'm working on - her hair is basically two "balls" of "smooth wool" - that's how terrible it is. I started to brush it out and I definitely was ripping out some of her hair... I'm going for the super thick conditioner method, just to see if I can't make it any "less chunky" - but honestly, they are still something I struggle to get looking "factory nice" too!

You want a teasing brush for this.  It's a long, thin brush with bristles versus teeth.  Work from the ends or as much of the ends as you can find and go from there.  Try to section is off the best you can and work by sections.  I've seen worse, and have handled worse.

Worse case is her hair falls apart ( and this stuff is really more resilient than it seems.  You will have some loss of fiber, but you won't be able to tell once it's brushed ) and you have to rehair her. . .  Which sounds like your other option, you haven't much to lose by trying to save her hair, no?

Very slowly one segment at a time - Use lots and lots of conditioner. It can be done. it also can be flat ironed.. You do loose a little but it looks so much better once it's done.
It took me about a hour the last time I did one - I popped in a movie and just started going away at it.

These have been washed - conditioned, combed and flat ironed...

My Lavender lace had matted hair when she arrived. I washed her, shampooed and conditioned as usual. Then when dry, I carefully brushed her hair out in sections, from the ends toward her neck. There was some fibre loss but her hair is still poofy and nice.

She started off looking much like Ivy's did and now she looks like this...

awesome! so what I gather is, wash, condition and then very very carefully and patiently brush from the ends to the neck in small sections and eventually I'll have pretty hair again hopefully, thanks everyone!

brushing stage done, thanks for the help guys! I could use some more advice though, if there is a way to straighten out those super frizzy ends that just don't look quite right

The frizzy sections of the hair are unfortunately damaged nylon. You can use a flat iron if you wish but unfortunately those little sections are the hardest to fix [if they can be fixed at all] and are pretty common on ponies which have had damaged hair. Also if you flat iron you will loose some of the frizz. So its a bit of a balance as to whether you wish to risk trying the flat iron which could flatten or could just make those little bits even worse.

Initially I would try a soak in boiling water and a soak in conditioner to see if that solves or softens the ends.

yeah that's what I was afraid of, thanks Kat! I think I'm going to leave her how she is, I tried to get the mane to lay down, we'll see how it turns out after I take the papertowel off her, at least then it won't be sticking up straight lol

The sticking up straight thing is normal with the set :)

However if you want it to lie down as in with Ivys pictures here, you would be bests just to flat iron it all - just be aware you will loose a lot of the puffiness!

Thanks! I don't mind losing some of the puffiness, having it sticking up bugs me lol

LOL - to each their own! Somethings with ponies drive me crackers too :P

I would go with the flat iron then it will help the hair sit as Ivy's does. If you have flat ironed before on pony hair you just need to do it the same way - very small sections and lots of conditioner.
