Pony Corral / Stable Diffusion: AI Generated Pony Pics!
« on: October 30, 2022, 02:26:59 PM »
AI is one of my BIG special interests, and I love using it for fun as a hobby.
I'm sure some of you have seen DALLE, the image generating AI that's been going around the past few months. Stable Diffusion is similar to DALLE, but is more accessible, able to run locally as an app on a regular PC. Recently, I found a finetuned Stable Diffusion model that someone trained to draw ponies.  Mainly G4 fanart though.

I decided to modify this model with an addon to be able to generate pictures of pony brushables!!  I showed it around 60 pictures of various brushables from every gen, and it eventually figured things out. Here's some examples:

I want to make extra addon files that teach the AI about each individual generation too, so that people can request specific gens.
I might release the files for these little addons, along with a tutorial on how to set up Stable Diffusion and play with them yourself. For now though, feel free to ask questions, or even request a picture idea for me to generate!  :frolic:

Arts & Crafts Corral / Sami's Ponification Nonsense (All Gens)
« on: December 01, 2021, 07:00:15 AM »
I honestly think bronies sort of had the right idea with turning random things into ponies.  So screw it, cringe culture is dead, here's a thread where I'll try to turn characters from series I like into ponies.

Things will probably be based on a mishmash of my favorite lore bits and design choices from various gens, because I can't get myself to choose just one gen to use aspects from ^^;

Blocky (Battle for Dream Island)
  • I based his proportions off of a G1 big brother pony
  • His colors are a bit off bc I went out of my way to loosely base them on G1 MLP toy colors rather than Blocky's exact colors.
  • His symbol/cutie mark is a jack in the box instead of his body asset bc I felt like using the asset is lazy + I like the G4 cutie mark lore!  I wanted to make it something that mixed his personality with his object so I chose the jack in the box because he's a prankster.
  • I think that his pony name would be something like Jack in the Block.

Feel free to leave replies!  I want to try and make this a thread I regularly use.

Pony Corral / WIP MLP Character Sorting App!
« on: May 03, 2021, 05:20:24 PM »
It's still a heavy WIP, but I made an MLP themed version of one of those character sorting games!  Right now there's only a few G1s and the two My Pretty Pony releases, but I'll see if I can add as many characters as possible!  I'm going to focus on the toyline, so FIM-exclusive characters probably won't be added unless I somehow add everything else and still want to keep going.  Alternate releases won't be listed as separate characters unless they look especially different in terms of colors, race, or design traits.  Going by this, different poses of the same character probably won't be listed.

https://raytrac3r.github.io/charasort/

The way it works is pretty easy.  When you start the tool, it'll show you two random ponies.  Click the image of the one that you prefer, or click the 'tie' option if you can't make up your mind.  After you've done that, it'll show you two more ponies, and the process continues until you've seen every pony within the game at least once.  At the end, you'll be shown a chart with every pony you've seen, sorted from most favorite to least favorite!

I think it'll be very helpful, while personally I do have a few definite favorite ponies, I tend to have trouble making up my mind whether I think one is better or not.

Please note that it's copied from an Touhou Project themed sorter with free-to-use code!  There might be some things I haven't changed to fit the MLP theme yet.  Also, the filters aren't super useful yet, considering that there aren't very many ponies in the tool's database yet.  At the moment, some filter options will end up leaving you with no ponies to choose from!

Pony Corral / Price Check on MIP G2 Seabreeze?
« on: May 02, 2021, 02:03:59 PM »
Hello!  A few weeks ago my parents bought me a G2 pony as an early graduation gift.  I was confused at her weird packaging, but then found out that she's actually a MIP Seabreeze! I was so surprised when I realized.  I'm not super into MIP ponies because I prefer a toy that I can easily take photoshoots of and display in interesting ways, and I don't want to open this one because that's one less MIP pony in the world, so I'm going to try to sell her and use the earnings to buy a loose Seabreeze!

The thing is though, I have no idea what price she should be.  I think she was bought for around $75 USD, but the only online listing I could find for a MIP Seabreeze listed her at about $300!  That's a pretty big range, so does anyone have a good price estimate?

Pony Corral / Pony Appraisal AI
« on: March 03, 2021, 08:26:47 PM »
I already posted about this in the offtopic pony thread, but I think I'll make it it's own thread.

One of my hobbies outside of MLP is machine learning.  To practice coding my own AI, I'm trying to create one that guesses the price of ponies!  Hopefully the long-term goal would be to use it as a tool to price sales, but right now it's far away from there.

It's kind of a pain to collect data for this thing, so here's how you can help!
  • Have a pony that you own and know the price of.  It can be one you're selling or one you bought for yourself recently enough that you remember how much you paid.
  • Identify the pony!  While I'd prefer to know the exact set the pony came from, just the name is fine.
  • Make a copy of this spreadsheet, then fill it out with details about the pony.  It'll generate a code that'll let the AI know what kind of condition the pony is in!
    https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1zNwxM6SXYM4RXn3gAjUONDb7k-x5VhMpbhz7bHTPbtM/edit?usp=sharing
  • Post the price, identity, code, and any extra information here!  I'll see if I can get it added to my dataset to teach the AI!

An example of one of the AI's latest guesses: it guessed that this Valenshy is worth $9.61 just now.  It's actually worth $14.98, so that's a loss of $5.37.  Still needs some work, but it's a start!

I kind of wonder if anyone who customizes actual MLPs has tried to make their own 'fakies' of sorts.  As in like, making a brushable pony from scratch without using a bait pony as a base for a custom?

I mean, if obscure bootleg companies can make low quality ponies from scratch en masse, wouldn't it be possible for a person to make at least one higher quality pony from scratch themself?  Plastic casting and 3d printing are both things that are somewhat accessible to normal people, even if full toy companies have better access to it.  And plenty of websites sell premade doll hair.

Imagine how incredible this would be.  If the plastic ends up comparable to actual ponies, it would be great for replacing heads or bodies that are damaged beyond repair.  And even if it isn't, it'd be great for making customs without ruining a potentially salvageable G1 pone.  Hell, you could even make a pony that isn't based on any actual Hasbro-designed generation, and create the ultimate pony design!

Has anyone ever even attempted this before, and if not, do you think it could be possible someday in the future?

Toy Box & Games Cupboard / Official toys from your fave series?
« on: January 07, 2021, 05:15:03 PM »
By the title I mean official merch for cartoons, anime, comics, etc. like plushies and figurines!

I've lowkey been collecting the official plushes for Battle for Dream Island, a web cartoon I watch.  Right now I have Firey, Pen, and Leafy, so that's everyone that's been released so far except Firey Jr.  Here's a pic of them that I took!

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

Firey and Pen are nice and soft, but Leafy is a bit strange.  When I first took her out of the bag, she had a nasty texture, and on closer inspection a bunch of her stuffing fibers seem to be sticking out through the pores of her fabric???  It gives her an odd uneven and rough texture.  I don't know what could have caused that, but the result is that she just doesn't feel as cuddly as Firey and Pen :(

I'm not sure if I want Firey Jr or not, I think he was a Black Friday exclusive so it might be hard to find him now.  Besides, he's not a very popular character in the show (in fact he's one of the most universally hated characters!), I don't particularly like him as a character either, and his design is just a scaled down Firey.
Pic of the Firey Jr plush is behind spoiler to avoid clutter.

Some other merch that's DEF on my wishlist is the official figure of Onomadek from Popee the Performer!  Pic behind spoiler to avoid clutter.

This isn't my pic obviously, just one I found online.

Unfortunately, it only comes with the 'Popee the Maniax' DVD set, which is Japan exclusive just like the rest of the merch.  It'd be a pain to buy from a Japanese website (especially with the mailing restrictions between Japan and the US right now), and while there are people who are selling the figure and/or the full DVD set on American Ebay, these listings are pretty damn expensive to a jobless high schooler like me.

The pic behind the spoiler above appears to be the cheapest listing, and it'd take a little over 3/4s of my savings!  I don't think I should spend that much until I have more saved up...  I want this figure so bad, but I'm uneasy about blowing that much money on it.

Anyone else have series merch that they own or desperately want?

Pony Corral / 15.ai and the Pony Preservation Project
« on: December 19, 2020, 04:04:08 PM »
I've been super interested in topics like machine learning and artificial intelligence for around a year now.  Funnily enough, me getting back into ponies and me getting interested in machine learning go hand in hand!

When I stopped being super into ponies, I still would watch videos by bronies and other pony fans from time to time if they popped up in my Youtube recommended.  At one point I found a video by a 3d fan-animator looking for a voice actress who can do a good Pinkie Pie impression.  Someone in the comments mentioned something called the 'Pony Preservation Project' (no, not the website with info on G1 restoration) and I was intrigued.

I did some digging, and I was wowed by what I found!  Apparently some bronies on some other site (yuck, some other site) had gotten sad that Friendship is Magic was ending.  Then some machine learning technicians in the fandom showed up and came up with the idea to train an AI on audio from the show, and recreate the voices of the characters.  That way, getting voices for fanworks is made much easier!

Eventually they had all gathered voicelines of every speaking role in the entire series.  Then several different people with experience in machine learning took the audio and individually got to work trying to train AIs on it all.

One person who is using the gathered audio calls himself 15.  No one is really 100% sure exactly who he is, beyond the fact that he has connections and funding from MIT, which is pretty amazing.  He's helping as part of his research project.  He created a website that hosts AI-based text to speech versions of not just MLP characters, but all sorts of characters!  You can find it here. https://15.ai/about

It's down for maintenance right now, but he has several examples up, and a list of planned characters as well.  His results are MINDBLOWING, they sound super real compared to most other people's results.  They still aren't perfect, the artificialness is noticable at times, but he probably has the most state of the art stuff available right now.  It's so incredible that he lets normal people use his text to speech.  Most scientists keep this stuff between themselves.

I can't wait until the site becomes active again!  He has a secret testing site that I'm actually able to access, but he doesn't want anyone to leak it, so I won't post it here.

He accepts submissions of audio datasets as long as they're prepared correctly, I wonder if someone could make a dataset out of another MLP gen?  Imagine having a text to speech version of a G3 or G1 pony!

Sorry for rambling, I'm super passionate about these things.  I actually learned how to train AIs myself from Cookie, one of the other Pony Preservation Project techies!  I'm actually training a text to speech model right now haha  :work:

Arts & Crafts Corral / Ponies to... Objects?
« on: December 09, 2020, 06:37:03 PM »
One of my main fandoms at the moment is the Object Show Community.  It's essentially a fandom of people making content about anthropomorphic object characters!  Many fans are aspiring young animators.

The name comes from the fact that many people in the fandom have made their own series of web animations about their object OCs.  Some of these object shows end up getting pretty popular!  Popular ones include Battle for Dream Island (which was the first object show and started the whole fandom), Inanimate Insanity, Contest for Millions of Thousands, Object Overload, and many more!

These shows use a style of Flash/Adobe Animate animation that consists of each character having a main body called their 'asset', along with some simple limbs and a face.

I've been wanting to practice making body assets for objects.  While I do have some experience, I still haven't mastered vector-based asset making.  I was stumped on what to make as practice, until I thought of ponies!

So to hone my skills, I tried turning G3 Minty into an OSC object!  I went with the BFB art style because that's my favorite object show, and it's one of the most popular styles to imitate in the OSC right now.

The main asset is a little messy because it was made with vector tools and I'm not so good with those yet, but the face and legs were drawn in a regular bitmap art program so they look a bit better.

I was considering making an adoptables thread where I turn ponies into objects like this, but I wasn't really sure since I don't think anyone else here is an OSC fan.

However, I think I might do more ponies to objects art as asset practice in the future, and I'll post it in this thread!

Pony Corral / Hunting 'round the house for ponies
« on: December 09, 2020, 11:27:26 AM »
Hey!  I made my intro a long time ago then vanished, as I often do on sites like this.  Due to my awful attention span, after finding a few ponies and joining this site, I ended up forgetting about ponies within a few days.  This is a pretty common thing with me, I'll try to get back into an old interest and I forget after a few days.

I've tried to get back into my childhood pony interest many times over the years, but it's always been a cycle of "Find me or my siblings childhood pony abandoned on the floor in bad condition" > "Give the ponies I find a spa day" > "Put them away somewhere" > "They somehow end up getting taken out of the box/off the shelf and end up on the floor around the house and get their hair messed up" > repeat.

visitors can't see pics , please register or login

The cycle has lessened over the years, this time I actually still have a few ponies on the shelf from the last time I tried to fix them up.  But I have a lot more ponies somewhere, I just don't know where.  Some might be in my room, some might be in my sibling's room, and I feel like I've spotted one or two in the hallways or even the bathroom.  Plus I moved my bedroom last summer, and there's still a box or two that hasn't been unpacked yet because I haven't needed to do so.  Wonder if there's any ponies hiding in there...

The missing ponies are mostly G3s and G4s, but I have a pair of fakies, a pair of G3.5s, and a pair of retro re-release G1s somewhere too.  I know some of the G4s are my sib's from when they were littler, along with one of the two G3.5s, but I'm fairly certain all of the G3s are mine.

I'm really wanting to try and find the rest, so I'll probably be hunting around the house a bit!  I'll see if I can keep people updated.  Hopefully I end up sticking around this time.

Has anyone else had to deal with rummaging for childhood ponies?  I wish my younger self was more organized (honestly I wish my current self was more organized too)

Introductions / Hello from Kansas!
« on: February 29, 2020, 03:14:52 PM »
I'm Sami, I'm a 16 year old Kansan and in High School.  Girl but any pronouns are fine.  I'm wanting to try collecting, restoring, and maybe even customizing!

I've been into ponies from a very young age, and got started at Gen 3.  I've found and identified several of my childhood ponies, and I'm trying to restore them a bit.  My younger sibling has a lot of Gen 4 ponies that I might try to restore for them.  I also have a pair of Anniversary Gen 1 rereleases!

I've tried a few times to restore my ponies, but I have never really stored them properly so they always end up going back to the way they were.  Hopefully this time is different!

I think from least to most interested, it would go: Gen 2, Recent Gen 4 (2017 to Present), Gen 3.5, Gen 1, Early Gen 4 (2010 to 2016), Gen 3.

I split Gen 4 in half because from what I understand there was a redesign of the toyline in 2017 that resulted in mold changes??  Me and my sib mainly have pre-redesign Gen 4s from what I can tell.

So far for G3 I've found my childhood Daisydotes, Starsong, Fizzypop, Bumblesweet, Hidden Treasure, and Scootaloo, along with a McDonalds Toola Roola.  I also have a G3.5 Cheerilee.  As for Gen 4s, they technically all belong to my sibling but they have a few multiples and I'm considering asking to take the extras.

I also know I have a bald McDonalds Sparkleworks somewhere around the house, and I'm considering making a custom out of her!  When I was little and she still had hair, I named her Rat's Nest because her mane was a mess.  She was one of my favorite ponies to play with!  If I make her a custom I'll probably make her themed around rodents hehe.

Still need to find a place to store these ponies properly.  I might be able to clean my Furby shelf and have them share a shelf, but IDK.
