Does FiM "Fit" With Everything Else You Watch?
« on: May 14, 2012, 06:32:42 PM »
We all watch FiM, or are at least MLP fans. Where does that fit in with other shows/movies you guys watch, if at all? For me, it's totally out there. Much of what I watch is either violent or gruesome, the exact opposite of FiM.

Of course! I watch many great masterpieces of Japanese Animation such as Naruto and Inu Yasha, but Friendship is Magic is my favorite anime of all.

Much of what I watch is animated, primarily either anime or just nostalgic cartoons from when I was little. I'll watch both stuff for kids and stuff most definitely not for kids, and I do like stories about non-human characters or stories set not on Earth, so liking FiM and MLP in general is not that odd for me. And I like good female characters and well-thought-out stories, no matter who the characters are, plus I do find re-imagined versions of things I already like interesting.

The only things maybe unusual about my interest in them is that I don't watch much modern American cartoons (or much modern American television at all) or much of anything intended specifically for a female audience of any age, even when I was little, but I don't necessarily avoid those things either. I guess the only thing really unusual is that I didn't go through a period of time when I didn't like MLP, since just about everything from my childhood that I like currently I didn't like at some point.

Well, I universally like animation.  Always have.  There's plenty of cartoon/animated films that I can't stand, but generally I like most things animated, especially with animals or in a fantasy setting.

That said, I tend to like a lot of TV that doesn't fit in to that mold.  My favorite TV show is all vampires, werewolves and shapeshifters.  XD I tend to like darker dramas and edgier comedies, and oddly enough old sitcoms.

Umm....you ARE kidding right?

Anyway, FiM totally does not fit in with what I normally watch....unlees the Walking Dead started to go for a new angle by adding zombie Pinkie Pie. XD

Netflix recently watched:

Top Gear, Sons of Anarchy, Rush: 2112, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

... I am sure that these things are all related somehow. Strangely enough, I think there's something to this. It seems like many fans of "Friendship is Magic" (at least, those in a certain age group) seem to enjoy "The Walking Dead" and zombies. I think that modern popular culture is made of ponies and zombies.

It's quite a contrast from what I usually watch. I like understated dramas, and serialized dramas. FiMs lightheartedness is part of it's appeal. Most of the films I watch are pretty dark and grim, so brightly coloured ponies having carefree adventures is, a lot of  the time, just what I need.

For the most part yes since most of what I watch tends to be animated anyway.

I don't watch a whole lot of TV, and my favorites are a weird conglomeration of shows that have nothing to do with one another genre-wise, so I guess FiM does fit in that it doesn't fit.

It's not the only animated show I watch either. I have been getting back into anime recently (oh, the horror), and I also enjoy Regular Show and Adventure Time when I catch them on.

This is an interesting idea for a topic. I've never thought before what the general pony audience likes to watch asides from ponies. It'll be interesting if we get any major themes between viewers.

FiM mostly fits in with what I watch. I'm a children's show addict. I have Netflix, so I spend a lot of my TV time in their children's section XD. I've been watching Paddington Bear the most lately, but also Thomas the Tank Engine, though I watch that mostly to admire the set.

I also watch Anime and Asian Dramas, though with much less frequency, and Modern Family (Which is truly brilliant).

Lets see happy, colorful little ponies verses Game of Thrones & True Blood yeah no MLP is total out there. Haha! My multiple personalities can really be seen with that one.
