Title: Help stolen package
Post by: Crowning_Glory13 on May 02, 2017, 06:17:28 PM
So I did a trade through Facebook. My package was shipped I think Wed evening. Just a plain bubble mailer about medium size. I have recite, and tracking. My recite says it should arrive Monday. Well like most trades I check up on the partner. I ask if it has arrived. Well today is Tuesday. My end of the trade just shipped. I get a response that it has been stolen. The tracking says it arrived Saturday April 29.

I feel really bad. Is there anything I can do for her? I can replace what was traded but I am out items and funding, but I hate this happens. Please help. Why do people steal mail:( it was 3 ponies:(

Ummm no, if it says it was delivered you are not responsible for the stolen mail.  For all you know she could be lying.  I am glad you care, but when stuff is shown as delivered from that point you have done your part.
It is a loss if she is telling the truth, but how is it your responsibility?

Once a packages is on its way to me, I gaurd my mail like a military base...but I can't help but feel so bad. I get ponies...or I hope to as they just shipped and she doesnt:(

Well, you don't  know for certain what is going on.  She can file a complaint about her mail being stolen, but not sure what that will do.  There is a  possibility  the package was mismarked and traveling around. May show up again or disappear.  I have been in this position and only recovered one item. Sigh

Thanks for your insight. I just know that feeling of getting a pony of your dreams and you wait by your mail box. And to have it taken away just breaks my heart:(

Yes, but just know you don't really know for certain that happened.  I had someone use this line on me once to get something extra from me.  I guess I don't always believe people now very easily.  It is sad indeed if there is a loss.  I agree with you on that one.  Perhaps if this is a regular problem they need to get a p.o. box in another area.  Stolen mail is becoming a serious problem.  My momhad all her mail stolen by the mail carrier. They eventually caught the person.

Ok now that is just scary...mail carriers stealing mail.. sigh it just makes me sad this is an issue. It's not common here but I love out in the country, but it's a concern still. Thanks for your words. You brought me back to earth. Almost prepped and shipped with goodies package.

I sent Pokemon cards to Professor Oak.com

The cards were missing but all that was left in the envelope was the invoice with what cards were suppose to be in it. He gave me the money that was due.

I think it was the American poster man/woman who stole them.

I've also been in this situation before, back when I was still living with my parents. After filing the 3rd claim over lost, damaged or stolen mail the PO told me they have "resolved" the issue by firing the worker because he was apparently proven to be stealing mail, and packages were often even marked as delivered, as he just opened them up, took the items and threw the package into the mailbox. I battled the PO for quite a while, and once Ieven took an item that matches the one I was looking to get to make them believe the bubble mailer wouldn't have fit in the box if the thing was still in it, so that's definitely not delivered >_< I did not win. No refund, no lost stuff recovered. At least the horror ended after the guy got fired, but still... I hope some others were more successful...

I don't know how things go over there, but here it's the recipient's duty to file claims, after providing them a valid tracking number the senders' part ends. I agree with tulagirl, I'm sorry about what happened, and I also feel your sadness about the situation, but from here it's the recipient's fight with the PO. We are living in a sad world where not only mailmen can steal stuff, but recipients can also lie about whether their stuff really arrived or got lost :( I hope she manages to find out something if she contacts the PO.

Yea that doesn't surprise me that nothing was done.  I have a long list of complaints myself as I have had issues with things in the past.  Things have gotten better, but compensation for money lost of items marked delivered was never given to me.  I was lucky and did get one very special item back, but  booo.  At least it isn't happening any  more.

The sidewalk outside of our house is rather busy- and we have had packages go missing. That is why unless I know someone will be home, I have packages go to my office.

have her file a complaint with the post office/ post master  that a package has been stolen/gone missing.

like the others said, it could be that it did go missing or it could be a try to get more out of you by giving you a sob story.

and yes, not so nice people tend to work at mail distribution, we had an issue where there was a guy stealing money sent in cards, he'd open them up and take the money, tape the envelope shut and send it through. one of the reasons they say don't ever send checks or cash through the post anymore.

She posted on Facebook, and someone else got her the ponies she lost. It could be a sob story, but I feel it is not. She did get a P.O. box, and got something stolen there too..i feel worse that's it's going rough. She has a friend close by that has a better area of life that is will to collect for her and deliver. I am not sure really what to believe. I am going with the idea that the worse had happens, and she is being honest about it. I did learn something. I do the communication and tracking in all trades, so I am cleared if this happens again. Thanks for all the advice and comfort.

Yea I learned that getting a po box in the same post office where my mail was going out was a mistake.  If I had problems with my home delivery, I also had problems with the po box.  The reason is that there is stuff going on with the post office itself.  So, next time I will move my po box to another area that doesn't deliver my mail and see what happens with that one.  It is always a good idea to do tracking and even insurance for every transaction.  It at least gives your buyer the chance to get their funds back with insurance if the post can't locate that package.  It also cuts down on the story telling as they have a way to recoup funds and shouldn't need to come up with a sob story unless it is really true.  I say this because, there is a way to prove it is true if the post office actually updates tracking.  Still with insurance they have to honor a lost package if they can't find it due to poor tracking.
