I have been successful with a curler as a finishing option, it works best for me -after- the method where you dip the pony's hair in boiling water and brush it out straight.

I've heard it works wonders, but pretty much all the ones I need to fix have tinsel hair.
You can use a good old fashioned clothes iron as well I find that works better on ponies with tinsel actually as it straightens tinsel very well. You place the hair in between either side of a pillow case (or other cotton material) - make sure the cloth is damp and the hair is damp with water and something like condition. Then just iron as normal - make sure the iron is only on the pillow case
