Title: UV color change hair reviews/pictures wanted
Post by: Aednatia on May 09, 2013, 11:48:19 AM
Would like reviews on my little custom color changing hair please. Can it do one pony with one hank and what does it feel like.

would also like to see embroidery/craft thread used as hair please. Did you separate it or leave it as is?

Thanks

i havent used any of the colorchange hair from my little customs, otherwise I would be able to contribute.

I haven't used embroidery thread either, but I have seen ponies done with it....and with some styles it works really well (I have a rag-doll custom with embroidery hair that looks adorable)

Hopefully someone has some of their work they can share with you :)

I've used UV hair before, but it was the limited blonde to pink from Dollyhair. ^^;

Try doing a search for embroidery thread, cause I remember seeing one on here recently :)

I haven't used any on a custom yet (because I'm still scheming about the custom I'm intending on creating with it), but I do have a hank of each of the colours MLC carries.
Firstly, it is awesomely fun stuff to play with in the sun ^.^
I would say that you would have enough to do a pony with it if you folded the hank in half and cut it, as there is a fair amount of hair in each of the hanks I have. If you cut the hank into thirds or smaller, then I have no doubt you'd have enough. I quickly went and weighed my hanks, and they weigh between 18 and 22 grams each :)
The hair is softer than my other polypropelenes, though its a bit strand-y (which I am certain isn't a word :P ). When you take the hair out, it seperates into strands much like nylon does. But even after a brushing, it remains in those little strands,,, let me go grab you a pic :)

(This is Blurple, and the sun had vanished behind a cloud as I took this, but the colour change happens so fast!)
I gave it a quick brush, but you can see how the hair has remained in little strands - I'm hoping that a good wash will solve the problem though, but that won't happen till after I rehair :)
I really love it though and can't wait to use it on a custom  :)
Hope that helps!

This!  Fun stuff.  Even more fun, blend it with GITD hair.  :)

I did--and yeah, if you wash it, the strandyness comes out. The only drawback is that the color only last while you're in direct sun, and for me it doesn't work as well if it's not bright sun. The second you go inside, it's already turning white. Still, Pretty cool!

Woa!!  I think I'd buy a UV bulb for that pony.  Love!

Slightly OT, but is MLC related to DH at all?  I disremember...

Haha, thanks. I like her hair white too, but it does look coolest in the sun. I don't think My Little Customs and DollyHair are related--MLC is based in the UK and DH in the States.

Oh, another thing about the poly propylene hair--it's crazy soft, but won't curl unless you boil it. And it's so light, a light breeze or a tumble will mess it up quite a bit. Worth it for the color-change novelty, but not easy to work with.

MLC stocks hair from both DH and restoredoll :)
But they are not related by blood/family etc.

Thank you Manimal I remembered your custom and tried searching for it so I could ask you it but was unable to. I'm glad you replied. Thank you for the info on the hair.
