I was just scrolling through fb and saw an ad for Hascon! Hasbro's first convention, coming next year. I came over to the Arena to see if anyone had any information about it.

It's being held in Providence, RI? Hmm that's actually not too far from me! I mean it would be a full day of travel but I wouldn't need a plane ticket. I dunno, I'll have to do more research and find out what will go on there. But sounds interesting! I dunno if I've ever heard of one toy company doing their own con.

Well, I'll most likely be going! I live like maybe 20 minutes away. The last time I attended the Fair was when in 2011 when it was in Pawtucket and I regularly attend RI Comic Con.

I've only been to two MLP Fairs and both have been in Rhode Island.  My pal Firefly brings me and we attend together.  I'm with Wardah in that the last MLP Fair in Rhode Island was in 2011.  I mean, I know Hasbro does lots of other toys, but I want to know what they'll be doing for MLP.  I personally would rather go just to see the MLP stuff if they have anything.

I'm guessing from the description- that it will be aimed at little kids. I went to a "Hello Kitty Friendship Festival" and it had "characters" and stuff you could buy- it was a little goofy but cute. I loved all the Hello Kitty stuff!

But I LOVE the idea of exclusive toys!  I'm sure MLP would feature heavily since it is such a moneymaker for Hasbro these days...

Well the description also mentions fans. I'm thinking some of it might be aimed at older fans but also nothing that would be objectionable to a family audience. Similar to how the Pony Fair is family friendly but there's plenty for the grownups.

Honestly, I feel rather apprehensive about it. I just don't see it going well given how people have said Hasbro reps act at the Fair, like the fans aren't worthy of knowing anything and they have absolutely nothing to tell us. I'm pretty sure they treat Transformers fans better though so I dunno. Maybe there's hope, but I don't have any.

I'm worried about more "exclusives". Thankfully most of the G4 ones have been total disasters (and technically the only one I love is still a disaster) so I don't feel like I have to worry about missing anything, but I worry about what horrors they'll create if there's a pony...

I'm really interested in seeing if there's an exclusive as well! But I'll bet it will not be a unique character. If anything, I'm expecting an old character with little to no modification, and emphasis being put on a new box and/or a certificate to say she was a con exclusive.

Reasons to wait until 2018
* it might be lame -best to wait and see what they offer and what kind of exclusives we're talking about here
* it's far away
* it could be REALLY lame with really lame exclusives.
* Isn't this just a way for Hasbro to cash in even further on the market for convention "exclusives"?

Reasons to the first one
* the exclusives could be really epic and collectible! They probably won't be TOO lame since Hasbro has practice with the SDCC exclusives- and probably just wants to cash in on the idea of that a bit more...
* MLP, MAGIC the GATHERING, and Transformers- all could have really cool toys/exclusives- oh and Star Wars right?
* it will probably be way easier to get tickets to the first one
* what if ponies are phased out by 2018 or just not popular enough to warrant a cool (expensive) exclusive? I think we are already seeing some of that so it may already be too late...

The link pretty much just has the press release, which has this line:

"featuring a celebration of Hasbro's powerful characters and stories, including live interactive experiences, exclusive products, talent appearances, panels and much more."

Thanks, Dragonflitter!  I was wondering if it was just speculation . . . Glad to hear there will be exclusive something.  :)

The two men holding the trophies are Frank Welker and Peter Cullen.  (G1 Megatron and Optimus Prime, and also the voice of Megatron and Prime in the movies.)  If they're actually there, that will be a big draw for Transformers fans.  Especially since, IIRC, Peter Cullen is rather shy and doesn't do a lot of conventions.

I think it'd be really interesting to go if I lived much closer; I'd be way too bummed out if I traveled far to get there and it ended up being pretty lackluster. If any of you who are local to it go, be sure to report back to us!

i am curious about it and i could go by jumping on the greyhound for 14 hours  :)  but i dont see me doing it to attend a convention with all hasbro toys. i am only interested in ponies. and of course the ponies they would have there would be new g4 stuff.

I'm pretty interested in going, because I collect both TF and MLP, and hey it's one convention that does both!
But I'm worried it will be completely focused on new stuff and no prior gens. (Though hasbro panders quite freely to TF fans with prior-gen themed new lines)
Dunno.  I guess it depends on where/when the MLP fair 2017 is.
I've never been to a MLP or TF convention but I think 2017 is the year!

I used to live close but don't anymore.  If I still did I might go just to take my kids, but I wouldn't bother traveling for it because I hate g4 and I don't see something like this being much else but that pony-wise.

I guess honestly I'd never actually consider going out there regardless of goodies. But I do hope it is a success and am very curious to see what they do with it.

I don't think I'll go the first year. But my best friend lives in MA. She collects MLP, her husband likes TF and GI Joe and the whole family loves Star Wars. And the con falls on the weekend of her birthday.....
