Title: Flutters backcard style and more
Post by: DreamvalleyMLP on March 08, 2019, 08:08:43 AM
I'm working on a reproduction of backcards, starting with the first set of Twinkle Eyes. So far I've got Fizzy, Galaxy and Masquerade finished (in about 5000px each, so it'll be an enormous print size).

My question is; what to do with the cascading text in the upper left corner? Should I just drop it (and leave a gaping empty space), maybe replace it with Dream Castle, write a story for TE in general (or maybe there exists an official story on all TE?), or just leave the story of a particular pony?
If I make more backcards, this will be a recurring issue I'm afraid.
Please do share your ideas and thoughts, maybe there are other :art: options!

(I plucked the backcard example from Google; I don't remember the source though, sorry. Around it, my rendition of the ponies finished so far)

Hasbro uses this art on product... It looks fine as is.

I think leaving it as is would be cute, like Bandit showed.  If you were doing shirt designs maybe just rearrange the ponies. (I love your shirt designs!)

Thanks. I didn't know Hasbro offers it :( Maybe I'll move on to another backcard instead then - one they don't offer, and just use my already finished ponies for something else then. Maybe the second set of twinkle eyes, since I already have a Mimic in the same style (just need to redo the mane and tail).

I think a story about the TEs would be cool - the comics explained their eyes by having them be enslaved in a mine, then going blind, and the gems fixing their eyesight (I think.) Your art looks really good so far, I can't wait to see a finished backcard :D

Not quite a backcard, but I felt like already using some vectors:

The flutters are so purdy! Mimic's shading is really nice.

I love the way you've done these. They look very crisp and clean and you get their colours beautifully.
It would be awesome if you expanded your range to look at some of the UK style art as well. Either from the comics or the backcards...

Masquerade looks especially pretty though. I don't really like the US TE backcards because I don't think they present this set particularly well - but your versions definitely do.
