Title: I'd like to see your first ever customs!

Here's mine...  :lol:

As you can see, she's VERY basic! And yes, it's Lyra just jazzed up a bit  :lmao: No attempt to reroot her hair as I currently have no tools (or hair!) with which to do it. I just wanted to give it a go.

She has been given a single coat of pearlescent nail polish (disclaimer - I DON'T recommend using nail polish at all - this is just for my own **personal** custom which is really just an experiment and for fun. It is better to use **acrylic paint** or something else as nail polish can have a negative effect on the vinyl and become tacky/yellow with age).

She has then had a layer of glittery purple nail polish on her feet and her horn, and her eyes and symbols have been painted over with silvery/rose colour glitter polish. I think she looks cute (if a little basic!)  :lol:

Anyhoo...I was wondering how other people on the Arena dipped their toes into customisation and how their first ponies turned out... I would love to see your pics!

Also, anyone care to come up with a name for my pearlescent Lyra...?  :)

This is a fairly bad photo, but I made a baby Powder about 11 years ago, and in keeping with the whole tradition of "US released baby unicorns were more muted than their adult counterparts", her stripe is much lighter than Powder's.

My very VERY first custom though, was the time I took a ballpoint pen to Twilight in 1984 and made her a TAF pony, before TAF ponies were even a thing.  I have a bait Twilight on her way to replicate what I did...in a better way.

@Flutterscotch - love your baby Powder! She's one of my absolute favourite ponies so it's nice to see her baby  :)

Though I'm sure practice would result in improvement, I'm not much a fan of customizing. Small imperfections really bother me and I'm not awesome with paints so I've not done anything since.  ^^;

I don't have any pictures of mine. I did some weird experiments with paint and rooting years back. I never baited a good pony. Which is a good thing. I'm not really an artist.

The one that sticks in my mind is a purple unicorn with Glory's head and Bow Tie's body (Yep, made out of bits) painted in purple. She's rooted still with Glory's hair but I don't have a tail for her. She's been living in my wardrobe for about 20 years. :/

I made a Baby Masquerade and a Baby Parasol. Also a G3 Lollipop/Sweet Tooth out of Gardenia Glow (I think?) and a G3 Snowflake out of a diva Pinkie Pie. Those look not too bad.

Also have a black Powder pose unicorn with silver and white hair (I think?) and a yinyang symbol. I was a teenager. That's my only explanation. No idea where she is now though O.O.

I don't really customise and especially not on G1 now with them so hard to find. The ones I used were always common and baity, but I wouldn't do it any more on those. I have been tempted to experiment on G4 but I don't want to cut off hair :/

I do have a Galaxy somewhere who has no hair at all. I feel like she's an alt reroot waiting to happen but the problem is I don't know what colour she should be rooted O.O.

Luckily, no digital pictures exist of my first custom. lol! Her name was Baby Blue Bell and I made her 19 years ago. She was a Dollar General fakie that I painted dark shimmery blue with nail polish. She had dark blue hair and a gold bell (also nail polish) for her symbol. I had no idea how to re-root hair back then, so I remember cutting a slit down her head where the mane goes and I think attaching the hair to like a paperclip or something? Then shoving it into the slit and spreading it out so it looked half-way decent. Wow, she was just horrible. And sticky. LOL!

No pictures of my first ever. I’m planning on making some more in the future, after this two year break.
     My first was a galaxy twilight sparkle. I just painted over her with black nail polish than glittery nail polish for the stars and a silver and orange supernova for her cutiemark. I learnt the hard way that nail polish isn’t the best for ponies, and will keep that in mind for the future.

ohh my first... no pictures of that one. She was made from a fakie, and was painted with cheap, tacky acrylics and rehaired with hair extensions xD I actually don't have pictures of any of my early ponies ;_; She was white though, with gradient legs and those super heavy eyelashes that were popular a few (many) years ago ^^

@Flitter - I think your concerns are unfounded - they look great!  :)

@Taffeta - your black Yin Yang Powder sounds lovely. I would have loved to have seen her!

@Teddy - I laughed when I read that you didn't know how to reroot the mane so you cut a slot in the pony's head and stuffed that hair in! Definitely resourceful, lol  :lol:

@Mewtwofan1 - yep, I agree with you about the nail polish... I'll be using something else in future and only used it today because it was all I had and I was impatient to try out my first custom!  :lol:

@Shaiyeh - I bet it was still nicer than mine! It definitely takes lots of practice  :lol:

Anyone come up with any names for my two girls? If not, I'll just come up with something...eventually!  :biggrin:

I did a lot of research and prep before starting on my first custom.  She's not perfect, but I am super, super proud and happy of how she turned out.  :lol: :lol:

She's my first full one.  I have a McDonald's pony I experimented on before though..... I hated the plastic tail so I cut it off. She never got hair or sealer, but Perhaps one day I'll finish her. :) Don't have any pictures of her yet.

Thank you.  :blush: I have been not working on customs for a while now, and am thinking of starting again once I graduate college. Been too busy to have time to do them. It's nice to see an interest in my work, I am glad you guys like them.

I don't know if this image link is going to work...but my DD wanted a :muffin: Pony pony, but I wasn't about to pay ebay prices for one, so I made her one out of one of her countless RDs. I think my DD was 4 at the time (she's 8 now).

I have in fact customised a pony. A G1 pony (dodges flying fakies), but before you judge... this is what she looked like before I started on her:

As we have no pony hair suppliers in our country I actually bought a wig and used the hair from that. It was tricky as the hair is trimmed to different lengths.

NightgliderSA - I've customized g1s too, when they're so out of shape restoring them would essentially still be customizing, so don't worry about nae flying fakies for your lovely custom :hug:

Haha, no, yours are way nicer looking xD while I don't agree with using nail polish (which you wrote about, so not here to lecture you on it :hug: ) one simply HAS to admit it can look pretty neat, and it totally does on yours. I really like the pearly effect :3 way neater than my super streaky tacky 1st pony lol xD

This is mine. I decided to give my deflocked SS Twilight a Twin sister.. She was a bait Waverunner with badly cut hair and smudged out symbols. Her Hair is a bit thin and the glitter a bit too rough but I was pretty pleased at the time :satisfied:.

Aww, thanks for your compliments Shaiyeh :) I'll be using acrylic paint for my next set of customs but I must admit I quite like the shiny pearly effect on Lyra and Dewdrop Dazzle too, lol!  :lol:

When Friendship is Magic came out and I went through a "brony" phase I tried to make Muffins...

Everyone's customs look so beautiful! Especially for your first time!

This has been my very first custom back in 2005 or so. I was watching Naruto back then and that baity Paws I got had just the perfect body color to make him a Rock Lee.  :biggrin:
I love him a lot and would never think about selling him.
