Hasbro likely does have say over what they think ought to be released. And they're more hardcore about annoying repeats then Basic Fun seems to be.

I think they look cute.  But I will always think Cotton Candy is cute.  I do want her.  40 years is a long time and I’m pretty amazed I’ve loved them for that long.

I think it's the 40th anniversary that makes it appealing to them to release the "first ever!" MLPs.  (Basically the anniversary years ending in 0 and 5.)  At least they're making them a little different.  I would prefer different poses though.

That's also why the RaMC blind bag figures have packaging that implies the movie came out in 1983 . . . Because it would be weird to have a 40th anniversary line and market the special as "39 years old!"  Like . . . it is . . . but to the general public that's going to be like, "Huh?  Then why are you selling it this year?"  But literally the only MLPs who are 40 years old ARE the Collector ponies and they want more than just them for the landmark 40th anniversary.

:sigh: I'm not sure I'm going to be in the market for these. Bluebell works best for me, even though her hair is also the wrong colour. Maybe just one.

I already said this on the trading post, but I think these are tacky. How many repro collector sets do we need? We've got 3 anniversary sets,  plus the darn funko pops and world's smallest.  >_< Trust Hasbro to take the laziest routes. Butterscotch' hair is still the wrong color.
To be fair, it's nearly impossible to get the right colour for Butterscotch's hair (trust me, I've tried)
My Mascots (so far): Twisty Tail, G2 Trixiebelle, Starcatcher, Twilight Sparkle. All variants & pictures of these are appreciated. Piccies courtesy of Griffin, Blumiere, Littlebabyribbon, & Starscout

There are two bluebelles.  One looks almost gray.

I'm pretty sure some doll hair store or other sells that particular shade of caramel brown? I could be mistaken.

I kinda like the 40 stamp, it distinguishes them from their other numerous releases. I do wish it was centered in all of their symbols like it is on Cotton Candy and Snuzzle. The placement on the others bothers me.

I'm not a fan of the 40th ones. Can't they release g4 as g1 instead?

Why? G4s are still getting new toys. This is a retro line,  meant to sell people their old toys.

Suspecting that would be a minority opinion among most G1 fans. I think it's fine not to want or like all of the stuff that we get as retros, but I also don't think there's a case to have more G4 repetition thrust on us. We've suffered enough already.

Are the ones with the 40 in the symbol being released by Basic Fun or Hasbro?

Butterscotch had multiple versions and her hair isn't always brown.  I had a concave footed one that had gold hair.  I don't know if she was one of the mail orders or the storebought one from the end of Year 1 . . . Those ponies were offered as a mail order set at least three times, maybe more.

Even the storebought concave ones seem to have some color variation.  Like people will claim that the "dark" pink CF Cotton Candy is the mail order, which is definitely not the case (or at least not ALL of them are);  my childhood Cotton Candy was the dark version and she was from the store, I still have her backcard.

But anyway, yeah, I'm ambivalent towards the new Collector set, but it will save me money I suppose!

Oh wow, I have been away for a while, and how fun it was to come back to these exciting updates! I don't know if I'll get the celestial ponies or not, but it's cool to see them! I would have liked the more basic ponies done in different poses. Not really a fan of another release of these in the same pose. I think the 40 could have been more subtle, too. I'm usually not a fan of blind bag stuff, but if I saw these somewhere I would buy them! I'm guessing the addition of Gusty is because she's popular.
