i use rescue remedy to calm the nerves when competing

This is such a good idea, thank you so much! :D I think I'll be using a few drops before training and on event day :)

with regards to getting into eventing working as an apprentice at an eventing yard would be your best bet, unless you could afford weekly lessons on your own horse. with an apprenticeship you would get hands on experience

contact equine/agricultural colleges near you or you could try looking on http://www.apprenticeships.org.uk/

to event professionally you would need a string of horses with at least 2 at top level and sponsorship to make it work

i hope this helps xx

Thanks ^_^ I'm currently looking at a few yards and riders who take working pupils, hopefully when I start applying towards the end of event season for next year I'll be successful. From there I can work up :D
I'll need to save lots if I'm going to be able to keep two horses after uni to produce and compete :) Sponsorship I could look into nearer the time, do you know how I could go about applying for sponsors?

its excellent that you have a goal to get into eventing.

getting in to the equine industry can be hard everyone normally knows each other but once you are in and if you are good they will look after you. I found a good site

http://www.yardandgroom.com/

you can upload a full profile on you and your equine experience. and it allows you to search jobs in specific sectors from all over the world and employers can also do the same. also horse and hound are usually good but at currently they are not that brill  Being an event groom is so fun you get to travel and ride some amazing horses.

Thats definitely true, its going to be difficult but worth it and I am worried that I'm already too old to compete at the lower levels to gain experience, but thats because all the riders I see are about my age and already successful! :) Thank you for the website, I'll start up a profile after my exam and get going on that. An event groom looks promising, it would be a good way into the industry!

for your cross country I recommend going hunting. Use a horse that you completely trust and just literally jump anything and everything that you can. Before the start of last year I had never being cross country when my boss shoved me on one of the masters horse and sent me on my merry way. I did fall off and have done a few times in the last year. but it helped me get used to being in the saddle for long periods of time and able to jump over different terrains, gradients and jumps. everyone was there if you get in to trouble and are more than willing to give you a lead over a jump if you are having problems. so in a way it is great for the horse as well. combine that with your current lessons to tidy up technique and just remember to have fun.

Pixie is right about needing a good horse I have worked on an event yard when I left college down in Cheshire  and they had some fantastic horses. (all way to expensive though) but at the moment horses are going cheap so you should be able to get a good one for a few thousand though I guess it depends if you are after a blank canvas or already schooled.

But don't let anyone tell you that you need to have top of the line equipment, trainers, fancy horse box  etc.  possibly when you are in intermediate or even advance groups if you are just starting out you can manage more than fine with an arena, field and decent hacking to produce an amazing horse. my friend has managed with only hacking and produced a stunning horse that is an amazing all rounder and it was a rescue when she got her.

Hunting sounds good, theres a thoroughbred mare at my riding school at home that I trust completely so perhaps I can ask the riding school if we can go join a hunt one day.

Unfortunately the horse is going to have to wait until after university, but I'm following a few horse for sale pages on facebook and have some websites on my favourites bar, so searching shouldn't be too hard. It'll be finding the right horse thats the hard part :)
I pretty much have my kit already, most of it is second hand and was all fairly cheap so thats good :) You're right about not needing top of the line equipment, this far down the levels I'd much rather spend that money on lessons and a horse :)

Best of luck!!!

Thank you! :)

Hey guys :) I'm shooting out a call to all riders and equestrians who are here, if anyone replies with some tips that would be amazing :)

I haven't really broadcast it over on the Arena but I'm trying to get into the equestrian industry with hopes to event professionally. I have a website and a facebook page and everything now :) Links below if anyone wants to check them out!

My main reason for making this thread is calling for any tips for cross country - I had my first and second cross country lessons last Thursday and found that I'm at a lower level on the course than I am with dressage and showjumping, which really disappoints me. I think its mostly down to inexperience and nervousness - now the inexperience I can handle with more lessons, but the nervousness I would like a few tips on controlling and overcoming. So does anyone have any tips, any advice at all that can help with this? I'll hopefully be riding in my first event in June at a local riding school on one of their horses, and its looking like I need to enter the minimus class - just purely thanks to my nervousness. So I need to beat it so I can try for the novice instead.

I'm currently saving for my own horse and event entry fees for after university, and the taxi to the stables costs loads so I can't go over alot if that makes sense.

My second enquiry is does anyone have any tips to help me get into the industry after graduation next summer? Any snippets of info I need to put in my CV or applications, for example?

I have the siren wig, but it looks like you arent looking for it anymore... I have an extra blonde wig... But I live outside the UK... I would still be willing to ship... possibly for free.... Let me know

I'd possibly be interested in risking an overseas one if my friend will let me use her PayPal and is happy with it, do you have pictures of the blonde wig and how much? Also do you know how long roughly shipping would take?
