Off Topic / Re: What TV show are you watching?
« on: Yesterday at 02:44:42 PM »
What I do watch is a lot of true crime. I will even rewatch specials about murder and stuff. Forensic Files is a go to even though I've seen the whole series dozens of times.

Fellow true crime obsessive here!😁I used to watch an episode or two of Forensic Files every night in bed before going to sleep. I found it strangely comforting. You've tempted me to revisit the show now!
I devour a lot of documentaries on Netflix, Amazon Prime & Sky Crime, although I can be pretty discerning when it comes to quality. Right now I keep meaning to rewatch The Jinx, as the second series has just started airing & I want to refresh my memory.

I'm currently midway through a rewatch of Twin Peaks, including The Return. This used to be one of my favourite shows, but it's not quite as good as I remember. There are moments of sheer brilliance & superb horror, but they're sandwiched in between a lot of badly-acted melodrama & pointless subplots. I'm nearing the end of season two & it's gotten completely ridiculous now. Agent Cooper's still one of my favourite TV characters though. What a guy.
Thank goodness things pick up again with the finale & season three!

In terms of current shows, I'm watching Planet Earth 3. Nobody makes wildlife documentaries like the BBC'S Natural History unit. The camerawork is mind-blowing!
I've also just finished Baby Reindeer on Netflix. Yikes, that was intense. Definitely less comedic & a lot more harrowing than I expected. Terrific performances. The show has been generating a lot of interesting commentary & debate online, along with the inevitable backlash.

I definitely recommend the original UK run of Ghosts! It's got a charming light-hearted tone, while also tackling some heavy themes. Witty writing with nicely fleshed-out characters. The show maintains its high quality throughout all five seasons & is well worth a watch.

Any other fans of Inside No 9 here? The final series starts next week & I can't wait! It's the perfect blend of horror & dark comedy in sumptuous thirty-minute slices.

Does anyone else have a ridiculously long watchlist that just keeps extending? :drunk:
There are so many older shows that I want to rewatch too, like the first ten or so seasons of The Simpsons. Those Golden Years are right up there in my favourite shows of all time. It's really gone downhill since; I wish they'd killed it off years ago. They could have learned a lesson from Seinfeld & gone out on a high note!

Pony Corral / Flocking: Yay or Nay?
« on: April 08, 2024, 08:58:34 AM »
Do you prefer your So Soft ponies fuzzy or naked? :P
For me it very much depends on the individual designs. I recently discovered a stash of deflocked ponies that I'd completely forgotten about. One of them is Twist, & I love how vividly her colours pop. That bold purple is so striking! On the other hand, I find deflocked Shady obnoxiously bright & garish. She certainly screams eighties!
I think certain ponies like Magic Star & Angel look particularly lovely deflocked. That goes for all the white-bodied gals too.
Then there are some that I prefer fuzzy, such as Twilight, North Star, Ribbon, Hippity Hop, Skippity Doo & Crumpet. Flocking seems to make ponies in shy poses look extra endearing.
I like some ponies equally in both forms. Lofty looks beautiful with her body colour either muted lemon or golden buttercup yellow. Wind Whistler & Buttons work nicely both ways too.
Of course, one downside of flocking is that it can look particularly unattractive if it gets grubby. Nothing ruins a pony's appeal like dirty balding fuzz. How bad does a So Soft's coat have to be before you'll remove it? Or are you a purist who only collects SS ponies in minty condition? Do you think deflocking makes a pony more or less desirable &/or valuable?

Pony Corral / Re: Price check on a couple of G2s?

I would defenitely ask more than 50 pounds for Copper Glow since she is complete. And she is still hard to find.
As for Petal Blossom, maybe 20 pounds. It's a common pony.
Thank you!  :)

Pony Corral / Price check on a couple of G2s?
« on: February 22, 2024, 10:11:18 AM »
I'm looking to sell Princess Copper Glow & MOC Petal Blossom, but I've been out of the collecting loop for a while & just wanted some guidance on pricing.
Copper Glow has her original wings & comb. She's in good condition with both eye crystals intact, although she has a small rub to the paint on one side of her horn & a nick in one ear. I paid at least £50 for her a decade ago, so I don't want to let her go for any less than that.

Petal Blossom's backcard is slightly bent & creased at the top.

Pony Corral / Re: Why didn't Generation 2 have an animated series?
« on: February 22, 2024, 08:59:16 AM »
Although an overprotective butterfly chirping "you have to move your pony out of the way" on loop while a digital clone object crunches apples may not have been the most elaborate game concept ever...

This was pretty much the soundtrack to my childhood! That butterfly was such a control freak. :silly:

Pony Corral / Re: Weird experiences with other generations as a kid
« on: February 19, 2024, 02:23:05 PM »
I was born in 1992, so I was just the right age when G2 launched. I grew up with the toys, magazines & computer game. My best friend at the time had two G1 videos that her parents had bought second-hand, & I often borrowed them from her. The first time we saw a completely different world with new characters, we were somewhat confused but absolutely loved it. We were captivated by the abundance of unicorns & pegasus ponies, & wondered why G2 had so few of them in comparison. The videos began with a list of other episode titles; this always agonized us as we wanted to see them all so badly. I remember being particularly desperate to see 'The Quest of the Princess Ponies.'
I still have some of my old childhood drawings, & they're a mixture of G1 & G2 styles & characters. I always considered them to be completely different properties.
Another friend of mine had a My Little Pony Tales annual, which added further confusion. Why were these characters walking on two legs & behaving like humans? Where was all the magic & wonder?  :silly:
I didn't know about the existence of G1 toys until a few years later, thanks to the internet. I don't remember seeing any at car boot sales or in charity shops as a child, which seems a little odd to me. To this day, I've only ever come across one G1 'in the wild.' (It was Baby Rainribbon & I snapped her up instantly!) ;)
G3 launched when I was ten & I fell in love all over again, but had to lust over all the new ponies from afar as I was considered 'too old' by that point. :pout:

Ahhh, this is so nostalgic! :lovey:
I was ten when G3 launched & I really wanted to start collecting them, but I was considered 'too old for toys,' so I had to feign indifference & secretly lust over them whenever I happened to be in a toy shop. One of my best friends was given Sparkleworks & I was so jealous because she was my favourite of the first eight characters. We used to spend hours on the MLP website playing the minigames. Who remembers the colouring pages & the scene-creators?
I particularly love the G3 backcard art with the cute character profiles. Ponyville always looked like such an inviting place.

That hot-air balloon is adorable! ^.^

Pony Corral / Re: Ponies you renamed.
« on: December 12, 2023, 10:42:19 AM »
I've always thought of So Soft Twilight as 'Candlelight,' as it irritates me that Hasbro recycled names within the same generation. Her symbol is so obvious too; I could never understand why they'd gone with Twilight again. If I owned any of the other G1s with duplicate names, I'd probably rename them too.
I never renamed any of my childhood G2s, as I was familiar with their characters from the magazines & PC game.

Pony Corral / Re: Hasbro's Most Baffling MLP Decisions
« on: November 30, 2023, 01:36:41 PM »
I always found it baffling that G3 took so long to introduce pegasai & unicorns to the line. I was 10 when the generation launched & I remember reading an annual at the time with the line: 'Kimono loves to tell stories of the days when the woods were filled with unicorns.' I couldn't understand why earth ponies were now the only race. I'd grown up playing with G2 toys & watching G1 videos, so the absence of the other two races was really obvious to me.
I do quite like the way the pegasai of Butterfly Island were eventually introduced, followed by the unicorns. Although it's a shame there were so few of them in comparison to the others; feels like a big missed opportunity.

Hasbro's questionable name choices are hilarious. My family held quiz nights on Zoom during lockdown, & I drafted a round where they had to guess which pony names were fake & which were genuine. Nobody got any of them right. I had to show them proof that somebody had actually named a children's toy Pillow Talk.

Off Topic / Re: What would you collect if money and space was no issue?
« on: November 14, 2023, 02:56:26 AM »
For years I've entertained wistful fantasies about collecting vintage carousel horses. I'd love to rescue, restore & display them. I have no idea how easy they would be to get hold of; I've only ever come across one before in the window of an antique shop. It was agonizing to drag myself away from.
I dread to think how much space & money I'd need for something like this. The international shipping costs would no doubt be eye-watering! I just love the idea of having a room/garage/warehouse full of galloping horses in all different colours & designs.
I've always adored rocking horses too; I'd have to add them to the list. At least they'd be slightly easier to collect!

Pony Corral / How much are the G2 unicorn princesses worth these days?
« on: November 14, 2023, 02:46:27 AM »
I've been out of the loop for a while when it comes to collecting. ^^;
I have Princess Copper Glow in very good condition with her wings & comb, but I'm in two minds about selling her. She was my most-wanted G2 for years & I was chuffed to bits to finally buy her a decade ago. She has pride of place on my desk with a couple of G1 ponies & I look at her every day, but I feel like I probably don't appreciate her enough. I haven't been actively collecting for a long time now, but I'm pretty attached to my little herd.
I'm curious to know how much Copper Glow would be worth if I did ultimately choose to part with her. Thanks in advance!

Pony Corral / Re: Unreleased G3 Ponies Found in Sticker Book
« on: November 04, 2023, 04:03:16 AM »
Oooo, I love seeing unreleased pony designs. These girls are lovely; I'm an absolute sucker for food-themed ponies & their colour schemes are great. G3 artwork gives me a big old hit of noughties nostalgia  ^.^

An adult version of Baby Luckyleaf would look gorgeous. I can imagine her in Gusty's pose, with that beautiful curly golden hair.  ^.^
The Rainbow Babies would also make wonderful adults.

I feel torn over this.
I adore the G1 characters far more than I ever did the Mane Six, but looking at that abysmal Jem movie reboot makes me feel relieved that Hasbro are leaving retro MLP alone for the most part.

Off Topic / Re: What's your favourite season?
« on: March 12, 2017, 03:40:26 PM »
Autumn's my favourite. :) Blue skies, spectacular colours, a peak time for bird-watching, & the relief of cooler temperatures after the unbearable summer heat.  x_x
Our sunsets are always the most beautiful in September & October. I also LOVE it when the clocks go forward; many people think I'm nuts, but I've always loved that period when it gets dark ridiculously early. It just feels so cosy & appealing to me.

Winter's my second favourite, but now it's almost tied with Spring: birdsong at its peak, seeing the first migrant species arriving, the breeding season, primroses, bluebells & all the other beautiful flowers bursting into life, wild garlic growing in the woods. I heard the first Chiffchaff yesterday & it's put me in such a good mood. :)
I wouldn't say I hate summer, but I dread the heatwaves every year. I'd much rather be too cold than too hot. Plus it's the quietest time of year for birding, & the busiest & noisiest for people.  :P
