I think it's because although people expected to see a Frozen short before the movie...they didn't expect the "short" to be 20 minutes long. I feel bad for the people who had no idea that there was a Frozen short before the movie. So with previews, people ended up waiting around 40 to 45+ minutes altogether before Coco itself started. It doesn't help that people are *still* generally sick of Frozen. It was a foolish idea for them to put the Frozen "short" in from the start. The short barely lasted a week in Mexico before it got removed from theatres.
I'll be honest...part of the reason why I haven't seen Coco yet is because I don't want to watch a 20 minute Frozen episode, so I am happy that they are removing it from theaters. I like watching movie previews and trailers, so I woulnd't want to leave for 20 minutes after that and then come back to watch the movie.
And I say all of this as a person that doesn't even hate Frozen (although I can't stand Olaf).

Those toppers are so much cuter than the current "movie" happy meal toys. I'm surprised there aren't any listed on eBay yet since so many are searching for them. 
I've only seen one person on eBay selling them since the movie came out, but they're "bundled" with the kids/adults cups. And after checking just now, one other people was selling them (again with cups), but they're from Hungary. It's still so weird, though! I'm guessing not a lot of theaters in the US ordered them in the first place,or a really small amount were made? Unless some people ares selling them under a different "word combination".

I can always imagine Discord was on vacation in the Phantom Zone or whatever, but Starlight was clearly shown to be at the festival.
Spoiler Discord was in it. At the end there's a shot of Vinyl and you can see his head at the bottom right of the screen as part of the blacked out crowd. (Edit: He also appears in the credits) Don't have a screenshot as the 2 places to get screenshots have bans on them (probably until the movie comes out on DVD).
Spoiler Plus you can see him during the "roll call" part of the credits, dancing next to Celestia.
And if you also want to count it, the "balloon animal" that Pinkie Pie makes in the beginning on the film was Discord-shaped.

From what I've read/seen at the artbook so far (it's so nice - I highly recommend it!!), there were things that they wanted to show more of, but took it out because of reasons, Spoiler - they had some neat ideas for some of the worlds/areas the Mane 6 would be in before reaching [insert destination here], like a huge forest and rivers where the Ponies look so small by comparison. Like a travel montage type of thing.
- the Hyppogriffs were supposed to have a much more bigger appearance at the end, such as them showing up during that "final battle", but that was removed.
And somewhat related: Apparently for Capper, he was actually an wealthy aristocrat, living the high life with pride and dignity, before the Storm King came and messed things up. At the end of the paragraph, the book says "Capper's crimes aren't driven by malice. At his core, he feels a deep insecurity at his fall from grace, and believe his appearance dictates his status". Man, I wish they had mentioned this or implied it a bit more during the movie, although I kinda suspected it, going by a few decorations in his house...and the fancy little outfit Rarity makes him at the end of the film haha.

I hope whatever happens in season 8 will involve the movie characters.
I'm watching it rn. I wonder what happened this time. Who stole the movie and leaked it? It's crisp HD quality.
I don't care for Hasbro's money but wouldn't fans want to support this movie instead of watching it illegally?
Same here - it would be a waste not to use them again. I bet it was an theater employee who has access to the "movie projector" and ripped the file beforehand. (Since usually theaters will run through the entire movie once to make sure it plays properly before putting it on the screen for customers to see it). From what I've seen, some people's reason for illegally watching it instead of seeing it the theater is (exlcuding if they live where the move wont be out for a month or more) "I'm too scared to go see it by myself in the theater". It's a legit concern, since I've read online a guy actualy had some parents hardcore stare at him when they saw him in the theater.

Yeah I can see the pic!  The Pinkie Pie cup looks cute! I find it so odd that despite theaters having the MLP combo, barely any of them seem to have the figures. I'm surprised that I am having a hard time finding any listing of them on eBay. That's just so...odd to me? I plan on going to see the movie again tomorrow, so maybe my nearest theater will have them this time? I guess one can hope, haha.

That reminds me that the Sony Hack revealed that they wanted the MLP movie to be like Smurfs and Transformers with ponies coming to the real world and all trying to fight a big threat to both worlds (they wanted Celestia and Luna to have a secret evil brother who was more powerful than them because of reasons).
Excluding the whole "more powerful than Celestia/Luna just 'cause" thing, I wouldn't mind if it turned out they had a brother but I say that in a "...Why aren't there any male alicorns (in general)?" way. That is probably the one that will always bother me about the whole Flurry Heart situation. But yeah... good thing Sony didn't get the movie. We don't need another "cartoons come into the real world" movie....unless it's like Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but that's a special case. Spoiler Tempest Shadow was way MORE scary than I expected and got so much more screen time. I love this edgelord pony! She kind of reminded me of the Evil Queen from Snow White--angry, but quiet; intense. And you know, I'm glad her horn wasn't magically healed by the staff or one of the princesses at the end. Because really, the problem was never "ohhhh, your horn sucks, gotta get that fixed", it was that she had bad 'friends' back in the day and then closed herself off. (Also, I just like the idea of a unicorn with unfocused, uncontrollable power.) I do wish we'd gotten to see what her cutie mark is. Or does she even have one? Did she never find her place?
Spoiler Haha, Egdelord Pony!  I am also glad that her horn wasn't fixed as well, and even nicer that Twilight told Tempest that she was amazing just the way she is. It's a really nice message, you know? ...And plus, she doesn't even "need" the horn - those battle moves Tempest she has, especially when she gave that guy that brief beatdown during the "Mane 6 are with Capper" segment? Girl is a one-pony army! I kinda headcanon that her cutie mark is (berries +) fireworks-related, like how the "fireworks" looked when she showed Twilight "what her magic can do" at the end of movie. I feel she did find her place - in Equestria.  Really, I sure hope this isn't the last time we see her, or any of the movie characters. I feel some good story potential in them.

I think you just have to go to a theater and pray they have them for sale.  I am gonna try to go to two theaters tomorrow and see if they have them, but if they dont, i might go the ebay route. Which is a bummer, since i only want Twilight and Rarity.

Got back from watching the movie. It was quite fun, and seemed like both kids and their parents enjoyed it too. I might try to see it again this weekend, so if that's the case, I'll try to see if another theater has the figures. As far as any spoiler-y stuff: Spoiler
- Is it bad that I "cared" more about the movie characters than the Mane 6? I wanted to see more of them, especially Captain Celano. She kinda got less screen time than Skystar and [especially] Capper. Speaking of, I demand more merchandise of Capper because he was quite enjoyable to watch.
- I didn't really care much for the Storm King. He was kinda "Oh i am really the main bag guy but I'll physically show up for like 10 minutes at the most at the end of the movie". In a way, I wish that Tempest was the main villain.
- As cliche as Tempest Shadow got at times, I felt quite bad for her the more I thought about her backstory. She just wants her horn back, and is still hurt that her friends left her when she needed them. I kinda wonder if she was having a mild panic/anxiety moment during the scene when Grubber told her he failed on getting the ponies (they fell down the waterfall). Plus, I like how you can see the "real" Tempest coming out a little when she is trying to ask the Storm King about her horn, especially once he had the magic staff thing.
- As far as the Mane 6 goes, I disliked how it was basically Twilight, Pinkie, and Rainbow Dash getting most of the "action". Rarity and Applejack got some attention too, but Fluttershy barely did anything by comparison. I did laugh at her little "therapy session" she had during the big fight (some parents in the audience laughed at that too). She should look into that as a career.
- They really should have done more with Grubber. I get he is the comic relief charatcer, but he pretty much dissapears at the near-end of the movie. It's like the movie forgot about him. And wasted potential of not having him be like a sidekick/companion to Tempest (like how Spike is to Twilight) at the end of the movie. (Hard to explain in words).
- I was surprised at how "semi-dark" some of the movie is. It was sad to see the residents of Ponyville chained/muzzled like that.
- I still can't believe that Twilight thought it was a good idea to use her friends to distract the seaponies so she can steal the Pearl. And it was a stupid idea, too - did she seriously think that Queen Novo wouldn't have a security system for it?
- It bothered me how they had no problem showing cameos of other characters, but they couldn't even do a cameo for Sunset Shimmer as a pony? I know she is in EQG but gosh...
- Cute idea to have the end credits be a semi-epilogue/ the movie cast members are enjoying the party. Also liked how they went with the "storybook" look.

Awww that is so nice, Sunset!! Haha i wish i had some of tnose cookies right now! I am currently in the theater waiting for the movie to start. I got the MLP combo(bucket and the small cup), but they didnt have the figurines? Sadness!

Edit: There is also a Making of My Little Pony the movie special on Discovery family tonight at 7/6 central and repeated again at 11:30/10:30 tonight. I don't know if it will give away any spoilers though.

I felt that it was a cute little special, and it has made me more excited for the movie than I already was. The only "spoiler" that I can remember hearing would be Spoiler the whole seaponies used to be hippogriffs situation. but that is more of a "unless you already knew about this beforehand or saw a specific toy" thing. There wasn't anything "new", spoiler-wise, outside of the usual "sneak peek at some scenes". Watching the special, it is very nice that (granted, I already knew about this from the start) they kept the original VAs for the Mane 6. I mean, a lot of kid-shows-turned-into-movies have a tendency to change all of the VAs and that can be a bummer. I know that one of the big complaints about the Ninjago movie that came out a few weeks back.

Ok, one small question for all of you who have listened to the sound track: is there any tiny little call back to "Call Upon the Seaponies"?
If there isn't, I'd like to go ahead and manage my disappointment now.
Spoiler Not from what I can remember, which is totally a missed opportunity.
