Shipping to and from Chile

Does anyone have experience with shipping to or from Chile? I did a trade with someone (I sent from the UK and she posted to a friend's address in US as it was better for her) It's been well over a month and neither parcel has showed up.
I'm sorta less worried seeing as both of them are missing, but I'm just wondering if it is normal for it to take so long?

not Chile, I had a package from Colombia make it finally north via way of India ... so that took awhile (dang ponies wanted to see the taj mahal first I guess)

so my understanding is south america = both from and to =  can be tricky mail-wise and that's just travel north-south on this side of the pond and why I also have had folks mailing using US-based relatives from like Venezuela (so they will hand carry across first)
