Happy Friday the 13th!
This week we're featuring princess ponies.

I've had a lot of her over the years, all in varying conditions. If I ever come across her again I'll be re-hairing her like her German counterpart, I like the yellow on her.
(snuck this post in early as I'm taking the day off Friday, so no computer time...)

She was the last Princess I got to complete the set. I love her European/UK name Princess Pearl.

Princess Pearl was bought new when I was younger, complete wi all her accessories. Pearl herself was "borrowed" by a pal at the time who never returned her, Fiery & the rest were all lost. Managed to replace her & Fiery, & also got her Bushwoolie. Fun fact: in the UK comic she cried a lot, & when they were happy tears they turned into pearls!!!
Princess Sapphire is always happy
When the moon is shaped like a crescent
Princess Amethyst always gives
Flowers as a present
Princess Pearl often cries
Sometimes her teardrops turn into pearls
When lights flash around Princess Amber
Then off on a mission she whirls
Sparks looks after Princess Ruby
His work is never done

I'd love to have her! I was totally jealous of all my little friends that were lucky enough to own her back in the day. :lol:

Princess Tiffany was the one I had as a kid! She is sooo gorgeous! I usually don't like that pose much, but for some reason it really works for her. I could just gaze at her all day :lovey:

I had her as a kid as Welland I find her all the time as an adult. She is under rated, I feel, her design is great! I have her complete now as I picked up a free lot of ponies marketplace and her with her ribbon were in the lot

Can't find a good photo of mine, but I have her! And Spiny :) And her hat/wand/etc. Just need her bushwoolie now, I guess.
I really love her, she's got such a simple design but it really makes her stand out. She's very delicate. I like both of her names, can never decide which one I like more...

I love Princess Tifanny/Pearl. She's my only princess pony that has all of her accessories even her tail ribbon. :lovey: I think she's very striking with her white body/mane and tail

Pearl is and always was my favourite of the princesses because she was so sweet, sensitive, and had her wishing pearls.
I still really hate the animated episode and the characterisation of all this set, but especially Pearl whose UK personality is so beautiful. Basically the Quest of the Princess Ponies is a personality abberation for me xD.
She was the one I wanted as a kid but parents couldn't find her, so I had Sapphire as my childhood pony instead. I love Sapphire a lot, but nobody beats Pearl.
I don't remember the poem, but here's Pearl with her wishing pearl tears...

I also have her complete aside from the ribbon. My childhood friend and I switched our princess ribbons. She had Princess Sparkle. I still have the ribbon.
I remember picking her out from all the other Princesses. I thought being all white made her unique and I had to have her.

At least there are quite a few MIB Tiffanys around, but Pearls? Not so many :/

Well, the comic actually bothered to give them individual personalities, and didn't go down the stereotypical route of spoiled little princesses.
But I also feel like that about many (not all) of the animation personalities compared to the comics (which were sometimes more accurate to backcards including the US backcard ideas). The only real exception is Wind Whistler, who is much better in the animation, (and Paradise, who didn't exist in the Uk comics so barely counts :))

Most of them had different characterizations in the cartoon as well, at least as much as four short episodes allowed to: Starburts was the smartass, Primrose was the ditz, Tiffany was the girly one etc. And the whole story arc was about them learning not to be spoiled princesses, which I think was a nice lesson for kids.

Meh, not really. They're all basically the same whiny brat personality. Whereas in the comics you have strong distinction between them and their personalities, abilities, etc. So you have Pearl and her wishing pearls, her sensitive personality and her empathic nature...you have Sapphire, the wise oldest princess who they go to for advice...Ruby who is restless, impatient and a perfectionist. Aquamarine who is a daydreamer. Amethyst who is clumsy and wants to help people but generally manages to mess it up (despite having the best of intentions). And Amber, who I guess is the active go-getter problem solver who always is up for a challenge.
In the comics they also don't only show up in one story, nor always altogether, but sometimes together and sometimes in their own stories with other ponies, across many stories for a couple of years or maybe longer.
It's just not a comparison for me. Telling kids not to be spoiled princesses kind of falls flat when they actually are princesses. And they never appear again, so we never get to see the fruits of their reformation beyond the end of the episode.

By the end they were far less self centered.
I know they're portrayed differently in the comics but you were referring to TV show Tiffany.
Tiffany is my favorite princess.

Just because they were whiny brats doesn't mean they were all bratty in the same way. Even as a kid I could see differences between them.

I can see differences too, but they're all variations on the same theme and apparently obsessed with being Queen which seemed pretty pointless to me and still does now as an adult, since Majesty was the 'Queen' pony anyway.
I always adored the princesses as a kid, and when I saw that episode I remember being quite upset that they had 'ruined' the princesses by making them all spoiled brats. I guess that sense has stuck with me, and I stand by it. The comics did it better. But there are a lot of animated personalities that just don't work for me, as I said before. I don't actually know what the US backcard stories say for the princesses, but they were one of the most defined sets character-wise in the comics, which for me makes the animated episode a disappointment.

@Ponybookworm, ah, awesome! I am not sure if I even have that MLP&F comic, I am missing a lot of those as I never had many as a kid. I remember the mackerel cloud story with Aquamarine though, on whichever comic it was, so a cloud makes sense. Also that she and Milky Way used to hang out together for some reason, but I can't remember precisely what they had in common xD.

I ysed to have a large amount of Pony comics, & got MLP & Friends from the first issue. As I've been getting a lot of them back, I've scanned some & can share the scans if you like??? Need to reinstall my scanner software at some point, but I just get caught up in other things, like the Apple-Bobbing Bowl & the pumpkin-shaped treat buckets I made from Apoxie today, plus I'm destroying a Phony newborn snigger snigger :devious: :art:

That would be cool! I need to check my comics again to see which I do have. I bought a bunch of MLP&F last year but I haven't noted down anywhere which ones, which was helpful of me. I have most of the regular run but I know I have a lot of MLPF gaps because as a kid I only got those on special occasions and not as a general rule.

Princess Tiffany has a surprisingly well developed character development arc in the cartoons. From possibly the most spoiled and snooty Princess pony to demonstrating an underlying selflessness and aptitude for doing good. For a relatively minor character overall, I found it to be pretty impressive :)

She was the only princess pony I had. Wish I still had her...she was so pretty! I renamed her 'Serena'...since I had already named another pony Tiffany a few years before after my sister's friend (it must have been before I realized they already came with names! It was the blue pony with purple hair with a red stripe in it that I now know to be named 'Sparkler'). Then I found out that there was already another princess by that name, but I never got her or any other princess, so I guess it didn't matter.

Have her! I like her a lot, got her in pretty good shape for like four bucks at a local toy store a couple years back.
