Are Desert Roses prone to fading?
« on: September 13, 2016, 07:31:17 PM »
I was watching some G3 specials on netflix and I noticed something I hadn't before; a character twinkle twirl called Desert Rose had.... pink hair. not white. And I kinda went, uh, wait.

so this is my desert rose:

And I'm like, I know pink/red hair is prone to fading. I'm familiar with repinking. But I've never encountered a g3 that had faded pink hair this starkly? She's still got glitter on her symbol, but somewhat less than what pictures on google lead me to believe is normal. bleach maybe??? left out in the sun too long????

she's from 2004, this strikes me as very very stark fading; I would assume it would take more than 12 years to get this white?? Is this a typical desert rose problem? Do they usually fade this badly, or is it just some, and I might be able to find a suitable replacement, or should I just repink her?

Thanks!

Yep, Desert Rose's hair is the infamous "fading pink".  I once faded the hair of one on purpose for a custom.  Took about three or four days in the strong summer sun to get it pure white.  It happens very quickly!

I've never tried repinking, but I know it can be done. :)

Here's a picture of my Desert Rose after fading.  (I also had removed her glitter, tinsel, and symbol by this point.)

WOW that is dramatic. i never even knew it was supposed to be pink and I've had her for years LOL! wow. I'll probably pick up a second one to repink, I actully really like the aesthetic of the white-on-white.

I accidentally faded my Desert Rose's mane and tail to white. I had her displayed in a display cabinet that got sunlight and one day I looked at her and her mane and tail were almost completely white. I need to find another pink haired Desert Rose.

I never thought about G3s having faded hair already, but I suppose it makes sense they could. I'll have to watch out for this! I don't think I have any G3s with fading-pink hair, but I can't remember offhand right now.  :yikes:

I guess if I do, at least I have the Rit dye to repink.

The Star Catcher with blue wings has fading pink hair too. I faded Star Catcher's pink accidentally also.

Wysteria and Cotton Candy's pink streaks are fading pink, too - both of mine have faded either fully or almost entirely.

Personally, I'm still wondering if any G4s have fading pink hair...

I think Dew Drop Dazzle may have fading pink.

There are so many G3 with that fading pink. I kind of like my Minty who has faded to white. My army of Mintys has a few with varying shades of pink.

Minty also has fading pink hair. My daughter's is nearly white. I think I remember hearing someone say that Razzaroo and Pinkie Pie also have fading pink.

I'm wondering if any G4s have it? Nurse Redheart's hair certainly looks like it could be that shade.

Yep, sadly! :( Mine has faded just by being in a bin, but it's possible that the bin caught some sunlight and I didn't notice. Sad!! She still has some faint traces, but she's certainly not as vibrant as I remember.

Dream Blue also has this problem, I believe?

Yup, Desert Rose (and Minty and Starcatcher) fade very quickly.

My mom collects the occasional pony and asked for her.  I gave her one and she placed her on top of our china cabinet.  The pony is not in direct light but does get some sun.  Next time I looked at her (within six weeks,) she had no pink left at all.

I know this is a thread about fading-pink hair, but...My Pretty Mermaid! I've only ever found two, the struggle to collect them is so real for me lol.

Anyway...

I think you might be right...her coloring always reminded me of Sundance, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the dreaded fading-pink. I imagine the hair is the same that was always used, but the overall quality of the rest of the toys is so lacking in comparison that I'm really not sure.

I don't think Nurse Redheart has fading pink hair; her hair reminds me of G3 Piccolo, who I think has a slightly different, non-fading shade.  However, I wonder if Dewdrop Dazzle and some of the Fluttershies have fading pink hair?

Anyone have a Fluttershy they were going to customize anyway?  Maybe someone can stick her in the sun for a few weeks, LOL.

Ah. I've never had a Piccolo in hand so you could be right. (Hoping you are) :)
